I have this 45 too. It was around in the fall of 1970 and Decca 'specialized' their label for this release, putting it in gold, rather than their typical black-with rainbow area of the time. It had a picture sleeve done in gold too, and I've still got that.
I can be happy with a GE of this era after I do two things: first take off that damn squared-off balance arm and replace it with a commonplace curved one (ripping off a VM works). Then take that supplied 45 adaptor (a lemon from the first day on the drawing board, typically dropping more than one record in a cycle) and throw it out the goddamn window, and use a VM model of the same height, which can hold and drop the records with or withOUT using the balance arm. Then ...I'm happy :)
I am 23 and I will guarantee all of you that I am the only one of my graduating class from high school that owns a turntable and has albums to play. (but I don't have this one...)
Let me make correction: It was the record player first before all the devices I mentioned. The reason why I mentioned reel to reel tapes is that in the mid-20 century, the used the same tapes in the studio to record their songs on a record. Uh, sorry for the misinformation.
My parents used to have that kind of record player when I was 2 or 3 year old. I knd of liked that certain record player. My Ipod gets jealous. Dog: "Oh c'mon, Ipod. You basically evolved from records. I mean think about it, from reel to reel tapes to records to 8-track tapes to cassettes to cds and finally MP3 players and Ipods. if it weren't for reords none of things I mentioned would never existed. You should be thankful, Ipod.
@gangtwanger I wonder if that's the flip side of "See Me, Feel Me", which reached number 12 on Billboard at the end of 1970. "Assembled Multitudes" had a version of "Overature" that reached number 16 that summer; believe it or not, I like that version even better than the Who's.
These GE turntables are excelent! They have excelent tone arms and play at exactly the right speed while BSR turntables of the same time period play too fast. thanx for posting.
Yeah, you got me on that one. Overthink much, I? You mean THAT second arm? That has three jobs: To stabilize a record stack while a record changer is in operation; to automatically offshut a record changer after the last record in a stack, or any particular one record, has finished playing; and if one uppulls the arm and swings it to the extreme right (don't worry....it's not gonna fall!), a record is thus enabled to be played again, and again, and again, and again....
Thanks so much for sharing. First saw The Who in 1971 ($8 ticket)& was hooked forever The Overture is one of my favorite pieces - when the organ comes in OMG! That's bassist John Entwistle playing the french horn. I lost all my old LPs in Katrina.
Awesome!! I've been into vinyl since I was about your age, but that was back in the '90s when vinyl was really "un-cool", but today, a lot of people are into it.
I'm into 8 tracks as well. Maybe a few years from now people will start to appreciate them as well, eh?
im also 15 and i've inhereted all of my dad's stuff. i found led zeppelin II, magical mystery tour, abby road, fleet wood mac, some old school herbie handcock thing, very cool
lol - I get it. The knobs are broken.

Absolutely love this song and the Who - I could listen to this for Keith Moon's drumming alone....gives me goosebumps....

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years.

With vinyl you always get double pleasure, music and visuals. CD is really boring ;)
I bought GO TO THE MIRROR from Tommy on 45 when I was about your age or a bit younger...glup..I am old :D
