@fariz90 Yes. These effects are in the Effects Panel and you can drag and drop them on to clips in the timeline. Then you can alter the properties of the effects in the Effect Controls Panel, usually next to the Source Panel. :)
Please help! I have recorded gameplay with a software called bandicam. And when i import it to premier pro the video works fine but the sound is really wierd sounding. And when i want to use slow motion on the video and choose 30% the slowmotion laggs its jerky.
I just exported a 30 min music clip that I am trying to export as 7 separate music tracks. I have the full clip in the sequence and have used the razor tool to cut the tracks the way I want them. I I tried making an in and out point on one piece and tried to export and all i keep getting is the whole 30 min track. Do you know how to do this?....I have done it with Final cut pro for the mac dozens of times this way but don't sadly don't have that program anymore. any help would be appreciated.
@gmoneystyle85 In out Out points on the timeline aren't to set export range like with FCP. You would need to set the WorkArea bar for the export range. It's the thick area above the timeline numbers, you can drag the start and end ranges to snap to the edits/cuts you have made, then export. :)
Do you have a video tutoring how to insert sound into the timeline. I've tried to import it and then drag it to timeline, it doesn't work. It can't be dragged.
@kaaskop01 how are you trying to add the clips? Drag n Drop? Or with the insert overlay shortcut buttons? which means you need the tracks active (light grey) and that means you click on them to activate and deactivate them.
hi.. im a noob on editing videos and im new on using adobe premiere pro.. whenever i export a movie, the video is always on 1 bit audio.. im just wonderin how can i change the settings in premiere pro so that my exported movies wil be in 32 bit audio.. pls help
@evoker818 could be your system is not able to playback the video codec, which means your system is not powerful enough to edit this kind of video file. Setting the playback quality lower can help make the video workable at least. (maybe) - Good luck, JB
I just want to now how to cut the video when its in the timeline, like take a vid and make 2 with it, pretty basic but premiere is a new thing to me so ...
@oCOSMICeyes Yes I agree, this was a very old video before YouTube has higher resolutions. I'll have to remake many of my videos as they aren't the so "to the point" as my later ones :)
I've just started a course using this programme and it's helped a lot
It sounds as if, at some point, when you're explaining the use of the JKL buttons I think (unless I have misunderstood) that at one point you say 'J' when you mean 'L'
Great tutorial but I have a question. When I import a click, in the preview window there are 2 big bars on the top and on the bottom of the video. How do I make those disappear in the final render, so that only the video can be rendered? thanks
I have a full HD handy cam and adobe premiere cs4 but when I tried to edite my video I couldn't ! !!which format or setting should I choose before start editing on CS4 for HD format ? I mean what shold I choose in that box after I click on NEW Project at CS4 ?
@PatzerKing lock the audio layer? When you insert you will be pushing any clips after the insert point down the track which can push out sync if audio doesn't move with the video portions. Perhaps you want to add a different clip on top of the original clips track so you stack them, effectively making what's called a Cutaway or cam B or overlay. :)
@aJBprods Basically you were correct in saying I am trying to break the sync between the video and the audio. In fact I get this problem even if I click on the video/audio unlock option. (Even if it was already a cutaway). If I drop a new video clip in, the audio still spits.
@PatzerKing so what you want to do is NOT break the audio, cut to another shot, then return to the old shot all while the audio remains in sync? If this is correct then you want to overlay not insert. I'm sorry if I am off the mark it's hard to understand what you want to achieve. Can you put it in a way that explains how you want to the vision and audio to play out. - JB
@aJBprods First of all thanks for the time you've given me. Yes I want to split the video but not the audio. So overlay is what I was doing.
It's one of those situations where the production is almost done and you realize you have to go back and drop a clip into a spot where several audio tracks video already exist.
I went through a somewhat tedious process of of selecting clips after the edit point and creating a space to overlay the clip. I was just curious if there was a faster way.
@PatzerKing im new to this...... what programs do i use to take video frm a dvd, change the format so that i can add the video to premiere??? and what formats do premiere accepts???
@boomatthemic4u Premiere Pro can work with the original VOB files. If you have an earlier version of PPro then you can copy the VOB file and change the extension from VOB to MPG and then import it to PPro. Then you are working with the original DVD file and not losing any quality in converting it to something else. :)
This program is giving me such a headache. I forgot how it felt to be a newbie at something. Thanks for the video, although I didn't understand much to be sincere. My brain eloped somewhere far from here when I hit "play".

hey mate, I really need help, usually whenever I double click the screen on the right, it usually allows me to change the outline of the video or whatever because whenever I upload it cuts the edges. But now it doesnt do that anymore, any help?
@fgcarva1 I am not sure about the terms you are using, but I'll have a guess at the answer ;-)
If you want to change the scale (size) of the clip - select the clip in the timeline, look at the effects control panel, twirl open the motion properties and adjust the value of the scale to make it bigger or smaller.
Working with hd clips in an sd sequence will mean clips don't fit the frame and can be resolved with a right click on the clip and select "scale to frame". Let me know how you go. ;-)
Hey I loved your tutorial. Very easy to follow and informative. I have a question. I'm new to Premiere Pro and sometimes when I import footage, the clip is framed correctly in the Source tab, but when I drag it into the timeline, the clip appears to be zoomed in when I view it through the Master tab. Heads and feet are cropped off and I haven't intended to do that. Any suggestions? The first several times I used Premiere Pro I didn't have that problem. But now all of a sudden it's constant.
@macklen421 clips will always show in their native frame dimensions in the source, the program shows how things look in the timeline with the sequence settings and dimensions. So if you have a clip that is smaller in frame dim than the dim of the seq you will see a small clip with wide black borders. if you have a clip with a larger dim than the seq dim then you will see cropping of edges. Force clips to "fit to seq dimensions" w/ R-click on clip, choose "Scale to frame".
You are looking for transitions. Primarily Cross Dissolve and Fade to Black. The pen tool is used to animate the audio levels and video opacity. Do a search for more info.
As for transitions there are a lot of them in the effects panel. you can drag n drop them onto clips start/end points and see how they work too.
@lawaiia808 Not all Quicktime MOV files are the same.
For example if you are on a PC without the ProRes Decoder installed you cannot import a MOV file with a ProRes Codec. Apple and FCP have their own codecs for HDV, MXF P2, etc that Apple have refused to allow others to use. DV MOV or H.264 MOV files will import fine.
If you are on a Mac with FCP and PPro installed then you can probably import them all. But you need FCP installed too with all the codecs.
@calumcan@ I am sorry to tell you that wind noise is very hard to remove and is always best to avoid it in the beginning. The best thing you can do is try to reduce the frequencies of the noise. Try using a parametric EQ audio effect and drop different frequency ranges while playing the windy section an listen for it going down. You will probably find it reduces voice range too so it about finding a balance.
There is no way to "remove" the wind ruffle completely.

There are two ways. use the cut tool (C) key is the shortcut to use the tool and click on or close to the lined up playhead.
Or you can use shortcut combo PC Ctrl+K Mac Cmd+K. In CS4 you must have the track name the clip is on must be selected (lit up) and active. Prior versions did not require this. It will cut through everything in the play head path, unactive layers in timeline won't get cut.
Hi John..I am an Indian..so its quite bit of problem to understand your accent in English. It will be very helpful if you get bit slow while speaking so that we can follow easily....thanks a lot for this wonderful Premiere Pro help
@avikbanerjee007 well m an indian too and i can understand wht he's sayin... i take offence when u refer to an indian not understandin wht he says in this video..... u shld work on ur english before u post things like tht
Jon i need ur help. can u pls suggest a video in youtube where it teaches abt downloading video in E.M. youtube download tool, so that i could import that video into adobe premiere Pro CS3. I'll b waiting for ur reply. This is really a great video. I was very confused abt how to use this software to edit. this video taught me well. i've another que. when we overlay we could see only one video. can't we see both the video. is there a way to change transparency?
Well i have tried deleting the other blank tracks but it was a no go. I'm wondering if there is a Mono on/off or Stereo on/off section where this could be fixed hahaha.. I'll keep searching. Just to let you know they are Mpeg's i dont know if that would help. Thanks for your help.
So i checked the track properties and it is indeed MONO. How can i get all the Audio tracks to read as mono i suppose is my next question? I deleted all the empty tracks but it still created AUDIO 4 automatically. It seems i should change Audio 1 to Mono no?
I'm having this problem when placing my movie clips in their corresponding Auds and VIds. Whenever i place my first clip into VIDEO 1..Its sends the audio to AUDIO 4. This will happen to all my Audios. I'm trying to do Multi-camera editing but cant get passed that hurdle. Hope you have a solution.
What's happening most likely is that your audio is mono and the first 3 audio tracks are stereo and can't hold the mono clip. or it's the other way around. in any case the audio's mono or stereo state determines which kind of audio track it can live in - they need to be the same. If you have empty tracks, just right click on the track name part and delete the empty tracks.
I have this program but in CS4 & after effects CS4 how do you put cilps from 2 different scenes & make them look like their in the same scene I am trying to make a movie called X-Men Vs Mortal Kombat, amdsfilms does what I am talking about go to his channel and you will see.
Sure you can have multiple in out points from a single source file. Just make sure you add the in out section to the timeline each time you decide on it. This way you have the in out points referenced in the timeline with cut up parts. Source clips can only ever keep the last in out points made. It doesn't remember the in out points made and used.
To see the edits you added to the timeline and their in out points you double click them and they will open in the source panel.
Hi, I have some footage that is backlit. What is the best way in Premiere Pro CS3 to correct it. I've seen some text on Shadow/Highlight effect but no tutorial... :)
Thanks for putting up the tutorials, you're doing a great job helping out people and I hope that you'll be rewarded in a way for this. The explanation is very detailed and easy to understand, which makes your tutorials outstanding, keep up the good work.
When i look at a clip in the left window it looks good and after finding a set-in point and a set-out point I click the Insert and the clips end down in the timeline. But when I then looks at the clip in the right window it has in some way zoomed in. It is as if 50 % of my filming has been cut of. Why is this and how do I prevent it?
Thanks for the tutorial. You explained it really well. Yours is one of the few that shows the area close enough and clearly enough to follow. Great job. I hope you do many more.
Hi, I'm working on MacPro w/Duo Intel. I own a Everio GZ-HD7 which makes .TOD files. It seems like Premiere CS3 does not recognize these format. Can someone give me a tip on this. Premiere is my main video Editing software.
I am sorry to tell you this, but TOD files won't work on a mac. If you were on a PC you could convert them to another format for editing. Google search if there are such programs for the mac to convert the TOD files. (It's been a while since I last checked) - Jon ;)
I didn't make myself clear. I also have a PowerBook G4, and I never had any problem reading these files before. The problem with the TOD files is with my MacPro. However, It has to be a way to make these files work with the MacPro.
It has to be a way to make the Tod files work with Premiere.

I am sorry I didn't supply you with enough of a basic introduction. This is a complicated program and would take many months to fully explain to someone completely unfamiliar to video editing. I suggest you look at tutorials about using WindowsMovieMaker. It's a very simple program to learn in comparison.
When I try to import some video into Premiere, I preview the clip and it plays alot faster than it should. I tried the same clip in Windows Media Player and it played properly. Has anyone run into this problem before and know of a solution?
hi jon, i hope you can help me out a bit. i play the guitar, and i filmed two videos of one of my song.one video is the rythm and one is the lead guitar.i put one video in one box and the other in the second box, and now i want to cut one part of one video so they can start in the same time, but i dont know how to do it. and how do you save these two videos as a single video in a other format like .wmv?
WOW! This is amazingly easy!!! I'm so glad that I am familiar with After effects, cause the panels look right at home (aww). I'm Curious, why is there only 3 video slots?
What are you refering too this is not a response to a direct post I don't know what I said where. can you please verify the comments.
Adobe can import video directly, some codecs are not meant for editing and Adobe may not support them. What lesson, what answer, I want to help, but don't know what about - please explain.
Is there a way to see icons of clips in a Premiere Pro filebin prior to dropping them in the timeline? How about a corresponding storyboard layout of clips, music and stills?
Yes, but it's a different kind of way of doing it. But the type of workflow is there.
In the top right corner of all panels in Premiere is a little triangle. Click on the Project Panel's triangle. Select the Icon view and go back to it to select the large icon view.
This lays out the media in big thumbnails. Put all the bits you want to use into a separate bin called storyboard. move clips into the order you want them to appear. then select them from the first one to the last and click on the add to seq button on the bottom left of the control panel. it will add to timeline in th order you selected. I'll make tutorial about it soon. :)
To add keyframes you need to first hit the little stop watch icon next to the property of the effect you have added to your clip. There is a little chevron looks kinda like this (>>) but its in a cirlce, that opens and closes seeing the timeline in the effect controls panel.
masking in PPr is limiting in that you can only use 4 or 8 points and they all have to be straight lines. Proper Masking should be done in an FX program like After Effects.
About the VOB. thing how am i sopposed to changed the video format to mpg? i get what your saying but how do i change the format to mpg after ... but like where do i go to change the last 3 letters to mpg? from VOB thanks a million by the way
If you can see the .vob on the end of the clip name. Rename it. You can click on the clip hit F2 and rename just the vob part to mpg. Allow the change and that's it.
what do i do know? i want to use that speacil video, umh.. i'm not sure if the way i'm recording it affects it but i'm recording it from a vhs to the computer to burn into a disc then from the disc i import the viedo files of the disc to the folder videos then
I'm importing them and do what you said to do but nothing still the same.. so what's wrong.. i know it's not what you said to do something else.....

If you have a video in the timeline sequence and would want to split at any point, how would you do that.
SupportTheBlind 1 year ago
There are two ways. use the cut tool (C) key is the shortcut to use the tool and click on or close to the lined up playhead.
Or you can use shortcut combo PC Ctrl+K Mac Cmd+K. In CS4 you must have the track name the clip is on must be selected (lit up) and active. Prior versions did not require this. It will cut through everything in the play head path, unactive layers in timeline won't get cut.

Well i have tried deleting the other blank tracks but it was a no go. I'm wondering if there is a Mono on/off or Stereo on/off section where this could be fixed hahaha.. I'll keep searching. Just to let you know they are Mpeg's i dont know if that would help. Thanks for your help.
sankpersanks 2 years ago
Thanks for the quick reply JB!
O.k that makes sence on the Mono/Stereo track.
So i checked the track properties and it is indeed MONO. How can i get all the Audio tracks to read as mono i suppose is my next question? I deleted all the empty tracks but it still created AUDIO 4 automatically. It seems i should change Audio 1 to Mono no?
Greatly appreciate the help
sankpersanks 2 years ago
Hi JB,
I'm having this problem when placing my movie clips in their corresponding Auds and VIds. Whenever i place my first clip into VIDEO 1..Its sends the audio to AUDIO 4. This will happen to all my Audios. I'm trying to do Multi-camera editing but cant get passed that hurdle. Hope you have a solution.
Thanks and great vids!
sankpersanks 2 years ago
What's happening most likely is that your audio is mono and the first 3 audio tracks are stereo and can't hold the mono clip. or it's the other way around. in any case the audio's mono or stereo state determines which kind of audio track it can live in - they need to be the same. If you have empty tracks, just right click on the track name part and delete the empty tracks.

hi
i large clips but only want centain sections within the clip
i.e. have multiple in and out points in one clip?
boffinson 2 years ago
Sure you can have multiple in out points from a single source file. Just make sure you add the in out section to the timeline each time you decide on it. This way you have the in out points referenced in the timeline with cut up parts. Source clips can only ever keep the last in out points made. It doesn't remember the in out points made and used.
To see the edits you added to the timeline and their in out points you double click them and they will open in the source panel.

I hope someone are able to help me with this ..

Hi, I'm working on MacPro w/Duo Intel. I own a Everio GZ-HD7 which makes .TOD files. It seems like Premiere CS3 does not recognize these format. Can someone give me a tip on this. Premiere is my main video Editing software.
Thank You.
conniear 3 years ago
I am sorry to tell you this, but TOD files won't work on a mac. If you were on a PC you could convert them to another format for editing. Google search if there are such programs for the mac to convert the TOD files. (It's been a while since I last checked) - Jon ;)
aJBprods 3 years ago
Thank you for your reply aJBprods.
I didn't make myself clear. I also have a PowerBook G4, and I never had any problem reading these files before. The problem with the TOD files is with my MacPro. However, It has to be a way to make these files work with the MacPro.
It has to be a way to make the Tod files work with Premiere.

Did you say that you can't import video directly into Adobe Premiere? You said the answer is in another lesson, but just what do you mean by that?
seriezpremier 3 years ago
What are you refering too this is not a response to a direct post I don't know what I said where. can you please verify the comments.
Adobe can import video directly, some codecs are not meant for editing and Adobe may not support them. What lesson, what answer, I want to help, but don't know what about - please explain.

Is there a way to see icons of clips in a Premiere Pro filebin prior to dropping them in the timeline? How about a corresponding storyboard layout of clips, music and stills?
harpert55 3 years ago
Yes, but it's a different kind of way of doing it. But the type of workflow is there.
In the top right corner of all panels in Premiere is a little triangle. Click on the Project Panel's triangle. Select the Icon view and go back to it to select the large icon view.
....cont
aJBprods 3 years ago
This lays out the media in big thumbnails. Put all the bits you want to use into a separate bin called storyboard. move clips into the order you want them to appear. then select them from the first one to the last and click on the add to seq button on the bottom left of the control panel. it will add to timeline in th order you selected. I'll make tutorial about it soon. :)

-.- wtf i could hear u perfectly.
hey can u kinda "pan and crop" like in sony vegas here?
also, when adding effects, i cant add keyframes.
i can only add keyframes when changing the opacity
GianflavioxDD 3 years ago
To add keyframes you need to first hit the little stop watch icon next to the property of the effect you have added to your clip. There is a little chevron looks kinda like this (>>) but its in a cirlce, that opens and closes seeing the timeline in the effect controls panel.
Use the effect controls to animate/keyframe.

GianflavioxDD 3 years ago
oh yea forgot to ask.
can u mask? and how?
thanks :)
GianflavioxDD 3 years ago
masking in PPr is limiting in that you can only use 4 or 8 points and they all have to be straight lines. Proper Masking should be done in an FX program like After Effects.
Masks are called Garbage Mattes in Premiere.

If you can see the .vob on the end of the clip name. Rename it. You can click on the clip hit F2 and rename just the vob part to mpg. Allow the change and that's it.
