I looked it up in other places (like Wikipedia, my own history book) and both say the same thing... >.>' By 1945 the IJA had nearly 5.5 million, where as the United States had over 16 million, the only thing larger than that was the Soviets... America conscripted over 16 million when they entered into WW2, the only army larger than America's in all history was the Soviet Unions military. Japanese troops were not well equipped, compared to American troops. Japan lost in close combat even in Asian territories. After 1943 it was nearly impossible to beat the USA >.>'

@rarerayrules So Japan had 3.5 million who cares? When America entered the war, they conscripted over 16 MILLION and that was without the invasion of the mainland... Japan in no way could have possibly hoped to match the size and power of the America military, and I think you're forgetting America had a larger navy and most America owned a gun... The US would have won no matter what Japan did...

@Kanoki989 lol no....they did it because their supply ships didn't have enough oil to be able to supply them with oil, tanks, reinforcements and supplies like food their supply ships all returned the japan and stayed there, all they had were their bayonets,rifles and katanas so banzai charging was the most honourable way to fight for the empire considering they did actually get some kills.

@lemonboy53 I never once stated WHY they charged. Supplies wasn't the only thing, if a group was sure to lose regardless of supplies, they would charge in a last ditch effort...

It wasn't "the most honorable way" to die, ANY soldier dying for the Emperor is the most honorable way to die.

Quite simple : by keep them in front of you. By forcing them to use as many means as possible to fight and beat you.

Every enemy soldier, every enemy gun, tank, airplane, boat, etc. that is used to reduce a pocket of resistance, is an enemy soldier, tank, plane, etc. that won't be used elsewhere, on a potentially more important point.

An example is that Greek, Yugoslavian partisans and Italian soldiers turned against the nazi Germany mobilized some S.S. units (I think it was 5 or 6 infantry, mountain infantry, artillery, mountain artillery regiments) in Greece and Yugoslavia, and gave them quite a bloody nose, on top of that. Whereas those S.S. units would have been strategically better employed and more useful, from the Axis' point of view, if used on the Western or the Eastern Front.

@rarerayrules Well, here you should ask the one who made NPCs' AI about that. But if you are familiar with Arisaka 38 rifle, the reason it is over 1.60 m long with bayonet adding some more to lenght is so that Japanese soldier could reach Caucasian enemy before he could. Therefore, I think sometimes it was actually good to make one close quartet shot toward a banzai charger, at least to distract him before stabbing him with your own bayonet.
