I have an old Dixon drum set that consists of a tom on a stand, bass drum, floor tom, and snare, also the drums have these mutes (I believe that's what it is called) that is built inside the drums and you turn a knob on the side that raises or lowers the lever in the drum and when the top of it touches underneath the batter head, it acts like a muffler and when you lower it its just a normal sound. Anyway i was wondering if someone can give me some info about such as brand, year, price etc.
@rocbottomriser This video review was made as the behest of Dixon. They asked me to make this kind of video for their initial launch of this kit several years ago. Watch one of my other vids if you want to hear it without a voice track and stop hating.
i bought this kit on musicians friend on sale for only $480. this kit is absolutely amazing. i love it. everything sounds good. the stock batter bass head is the only thing that could use a better head, which i now have a remo powerstroke head on. with good tuning, this kit is beautiful
I just played these drums at a rehearsal studio here in Los Angeles. LOVE THEM! Had never heard of the brand, but that snare...Geez is it a beauty. I am so buying one!
I am happy to say that I am now an owner of the Dixon Demon. And to think that 3 months ago, I've never heard of this brand of drums, and now I just purchased one thanks to this very informative video. Thanks!
@MetalforLife22 for metal, you usually want a lot of attack...so any clear head will be fine as long as you can tune...and yeah, the EC2 head by Evans is an excellent head
@MetalforLife22 evans G2 clear, with G1s on the reso side, (i like G2 coated becase of that little extra warmth, but clears are THE metal heads (no pun intended :P) because of the attack)
I'm very interested in buying this kit. I found it at guitar center for $500, so that's a great deal. This video was EXTREMELY informative, and I greatly appreciate it, and I wish more sets were explained like this. Perfect video.
I'm a metal drummer, but also like to do rock, fusion, etc.
For metal, do you think it's a good set? I hear Birch is best for metal drummers, and I know this set is part Birch, part Mahogany. Sounds great!
I play both Metal and funk on this kit. If you check out my other vid where I'm laying down tracks for a metal tune you'll hear how beautiful it is for teh broootal music.
I simply miked all the drums and put them through a mixer. No post processing or effects. I used a cheap $200 drum mic kit for the toms and overheads, a SM57 for the snare and a Shure 56A for the bass.
@asmodia255 Man that Birch & Mahogany mix works well.. You really can hear the punch and much needed warmth! 1 Question.. when the shells are bare are they fairly flexable or bendable by hand? I think I might love this set!!

@000Soccerfan000 It comes with 1 cymbal stand, on which you place 1 of the toms. It also has a kick pedal (not great) and a sturdy snare stand

I like the toms, but the snare just doesn't sound right to me. I'm a Pearl fan myself though.

What heads do you recommend for metal drummers on these?
MetalforLife22 1 year ago
I am not a big fan of overtones so I always recommend something double plied with overtone dampening rings like the Evans EC2s.

is this worth the price tag? and are there anything bad about the kit?
UnconciousHippie 1 year ago
The price tag isn't going to be $1200. That was the original MSRP. When I purchased it I got it for $600. It's very much worth it.
asmodia255 1 year ago
hmm, with or without hardware?
UnconciousHippie 1 year ago
Without. It comes with the mounting brackets for the rack toms and floor tom legs.
asmodia255 1 year ago
for the kit, is there a tom mount on the bass?
themusicanimelover 1 year ago
No the Kick is a Virgin Kick with no mounts.

nope
