I guess I ask in tongue and cheek because many reviews these days seem to be biased depending on how much advertising a client purchases. The magazine industry is a great example and as a result, the reader can not trust many reviews. You didn't seem to find any faults with the car and surely there must be some. The script sounds like it was written by the Subaru marketing department.
Reviews are NOT subjective by definition. They are certainly prone to bias, but by definition a review is a study or a critical report. Many truly well done auto reviews will go over the pros and cons of the car, not just the pros. This review just didn't present both sides.
Also another note in durability. I had a lady pull right out in front of me. The braking saved my ass. However I was forced to turn into a curb. I hit it pretty darn hard. I thought for sure I broke something by the sound of the impact. But all I got was a scuff on the front right tire. It didn't even throw off the alignment. If I would have hit a curb that hard inmy old Jetta I def. would have broken something. Great quality in a car with payments of 179 per month.
I have the 2009 Subaru 2.5i. With the automatic trans. Great Car, got it with only 200 mile on it and at first it seemed a bit sluggish but at about 6000 miles the motor seems to have broken in more. Now the car is a rocket. If you test drive a brand new Subaru keep in mind that the car has a breaking in period. But once broken in it's one of the funnest cars on the road in it's price range. Great mountain car too. Tons of fun on a twisty turny road. Get one you won't be sorry.
Did you lease it or buy it? I'm gonna lease a 2010 I think. Subaru's are made 100% in Japan so you would think the quality is very good. I've seen a report of Subaru as being one of the top 6 in terms of lowest reported problems which is what attracted me to them. That would put them nearly in the same class as Honda.
i swear by subaru's in the snow....hands down best car for rough conditions...best handling cars and perfect in bad weather, wind doesnt affect them at all! i would buy another in a heartbeat. my 06 forester is awesome. i would consider this car as well.
I had it narrowed down along with a Mazda 3 hatchback and Volkswagen Rabbit 5-door.
I didn't dislike the other cars at all, I've just had a very good history with Subaru which made me come back for more. My old Impreza that I traded in had almost 400k on the odometer.

It is not wasting gas, dude!...When you drive an Impreza, you can feel it, and MPG is very good for a car like that...trust me, taking the turn in an Impreza is a whole different driving feeling than in any other regular front wheel drive car. You can feel you have the control, man. God Bless the All-Wheel Drive Symetrical System!!!
Not really!, AWD means CONTROL...RWD has fun specially when drifting, but there is no much control in certain situations or conditions. That is why the Porsche 911 Turbo GT2 transfer tranction to front wheels when it reaches high speeds, to have control.
Just purchased last week an '08 Subaru Impreza 2.5 i(not the WRX model).
Let me tell you this: I am immensely impressed with the way the car drives and handles. This is a great - no an excellent car ! Have driven Audi's and Porsche's - and I am bold enough to say that for it's price (under $19K) this is worth every cent money can buy.
Test drove all the models in this price range
(4 cyl, 100+ hp, 5-door wagons) and nothing can match-up with the Subaru.
i have a 08 impreza 2 and ur right the exterior is ok i think subaru shouldv tryed harder on the body the 08 shouldv came stock with the sports grill that wouldv made a diffrence the only thing i like about the looks is the rear tail light
I'm a huge impreza fan, and have owned an '04 wrx wagon, an '05 rs, an '06 wrx, and just purchased an '08 2.5i wagon. The '08 is definately not my favorite in exterior styling, but the interior is a HUGE improvement. The exterior looks terrible in photos and on video, but looks quite a bit better in real life. Give it a chance, but I do hope that Subaru plans on making the exterior a little more aggressive. Here's to hoping for the '10 model.

2010, there upping the base WRX an extra 40 HP and integrating the fender flares from the STI. That aught to do it, And in all reality the lines on the new subaru atleast look pritty well exicuted...believe me there are MUCH worse designes out there...and all this need is a bit of tweeking.

the only hitch, your looking ast 1,200 retail for full install and purchase of those two components...be aware of EBAY...there all cheap chinese Knock-offs. just be carefull where you get your parts and you will be fine.

You can turbocharge your 2.5i later on but the mony you will spend is a lot. It require lots of tuning to get it right too. You will most likely have to wait for the warranty to finish first otherwise you cannot do a proper conversion to turbo with the original 2.5i engine block. My advise? Get a WRX or get a 2.5i manual so you can make a conversion later.
I just bought myself one of these babies. All your critisisms will fly out the door when you realise how much of a joy it is to drive. I'm also very fond of the look too and have the same blue colour as in the video.
what you have is an STI, good car....but to say that anything less of that is no scooby is an ignorant comment...and yes the previous base Imprezia used the 2.5 L Motor which had the same stats...and that is a subaru.

One big downside is the mileage however. Ppl are reporting around 24mpg combined freeway and city driving. Hopefully it uses regular unleaded gas.

1) It peaks torque and power and less rec
2) It has less overhang to win WRC and bring back the glory days which made the first gen rexie the best ever.
3) It's 2.5l turbo flat 4 engine will make you agree it is an impreza when it murders your car out on the street.
