I don't think it's really fair, they should ALL have the same ROM. That way they load the same processes and things. In this test they have different ROMs..
@TheMajinVegeta1 i have a sgs, touchwiz isn't really bad. it actually adds some pretty cool features, and from what I've read motoblur is complete garbage
Its obvious that the Nexus One would end up last in nearly everything with its Qualcomm processor. Those processors are by far the worst in the industry.
The only reason that captivate may be slower than the nexus one might be because it is still on eclair and that there are extra things that need to be loaded when it is booting up. A fair comparison would be using Froyo on all the phones and instead of a captivate, use the original Galaxy S i9000 where no extra software is installed.
You are absolutely right, and he's using three different carriers. So not only is it dependent on the devices internet capabilities but the signal strength of each carrier in the area in which he is testing. Could he not test some games for his 3d test; some hd clips for his video tests. Can't decide if this "test" is biased or just ill informed...
@petecdun Doesn't really matter if they're on the same WiFi connection, the variance in response times out to the router and through several hops on the internet renders this test useless for CPU benchmarks. He should just run Sunspider or something - would be pretty boring to watch, but a better measurement..
You do realize that by putting all three of those phones on the same wifi network to test loading speed is really a completely pointless test because there is really no accuracy to any of the results as interference constantly would be occuring between the devices, affecting transfer rates at minute deviations. Therefore, as an actual metric for each processor's performance, it is pretty much a useless test yeilding roughly random results.
Is there anyway to test the chips themselves? because the phones are all using different things and having other restrictions/limitations to achieve a fair comparision
To: Pocketnowvideo - Could you take still pics inside and outside of the same thing to get a sense of which has better overall camera capabilities? Thanks.
@jjoeshaw it is extremly fast, its not the ui, it is very good looking, and has live tiles, as well as the smoothest scrolling and best multitasking. it is the fastest phone os in the world
@m200mw The UI is what makes it fast, because of how basic it is. Also I heard it's not even true multitasking? So how can it be the best multitasking?
@jjoeshaw the metro ui dosent make my phone fast, its the os it runs on, the wp7 interface is flashy, and sexy, it makes my phone fun to use, and good to look at, and it will be the most popular based on surveys that have been done, android is decent, but when it comes to speed, functionality, looks, and stability wp7 is much better. the multitasking is defiantly real, it is fast and easy to use, you can skip between 4 things you want to do at the same time.
@m200mw No, it's definitely the UI, after all the UI is PART of the OS. And no, it won't be the most popular based on whichever made-up surveys have been done, because it has such a little market share now that it's pretty much impossible for it to become the market leader, after all it's got two popular competitors that take up almost equal market share. Android has much more functionality than windows phone so don't even try to say windows phone has better functionality (continued)
@m200mw ...and looks? No. Android 4.0 combines the simplicity of windows phone and the gestures into an actually GRAPHICAL user interface, instead of just squares on the screen. Also, the multitasking on WP7 is NOT true multitasking, because the apps don't actually run in the background. And you can only have 4 apps open? HAHAHAHA are you kidding me? On android you can have as many as you like, easily accessed by one tap on the screen, instead of holding down the back button. (continued again)
@m200mw And also Android allows you to close the apps by flicking them away, a gesture that has been incorporated through the entire operating system. Also WP7 doesn't even have a good notification system, whereas Android has the original notifications tray, which was so good that even symbian and iOS have incorporated it.
@joshp9690 you have no idea what you are talking about, the speed of an operating system has nothing to do with how many people own them, wp7.5 is the fastest phone os in the world. it is also is the fastest growing in popularity
@joshp9690 you are ignorant, i never said wp7 was the most popular, it will be soon, and you do not know anything about what you are talking about. watch the video im posting right now.
Loading webpages as a benchmark is a complete sham. There are so many different variables that can take place. For instance, notice that at 3:05, there are different advertisements shown. Different ads from different ad servers located in different parts of the country gives you different results.
Notice that in the Captivate and the N1 render the page sooner than the Droid X. That latency is a bigger issue to me.
the droid x has the faster processor but the humming bird has the better gpu. this is why you see the droid x benchmarking higher in read and wright tests the droid x also has a faster memory. the humming bird processor without the newer gpu would be slower than the snap dragon.
does the nexus 1 have android 2.2 while the captivate and the other one have anroid 2.1? because of it does then you already fucked up your review knowing that its a different os.
this test will have to be repeated soon with the desire HD or Desire Z with the new snapdragon revision with the adreno 205 i think its faster than the hummingbird however its hard to tell if its because of the hardware or samsungs dodgy code :\
The Galaxy S has the best Display by far, but it does use Super AMOLED the nexus one was just about the same besides it did look like it had more glare on the screen but it is a older screen and its not "super" Amoled.. The speed also goes to the Galaxy S. I really like the Droid X but just like the iphone with any type of media or games the screen is much more washed out. I have done more testing on these phones and the Galaxy S is the best its even better then the G2 that just came out..
It does not seem that way at all. the Nexus One is in fact a good phone and is holding its own even with the newer phones being released. The biggest difference I notice from the nexus one is yes it is a little choppy but that really does not matter but there is more glare on the screen then the Galaxy S, and like I said in my other post the Galaxy S is much faster then the G2 even.. dont get me wrong, the G2 is a good budget phone but if you can get the Galaxy S its the winner.
@0nemoa g 2 is not the successor to the nexus 1. all 3 phones in this video have a 1GHz processor, the g2 has an 800MHz processor, so all of these phone would be expected to be faster
@FAMOUS10002207 the G2 is faster than the Nexus One. The G2's 800mhz 2nd Generation Snapdragon dominates the Nexus One's 1ghz 1st Generation Snapdragon.
Feel is very different than durability. Galaxy S is platic. Doesn't feel great but it is big so fits nicely. iPhone is smaller and feels amazing, solid and a little heavy, which doesn;t hurt ur hand, but feels good
Yeah the DROID from Verizon is to big. I went to ATT to switch over so I can buy a captivate and I dont even have it yet because its out of stock. From what I have seen it is way better than the Droid but yet you keep saying they are even. The quality is amazing on the captivate and it is not choppy at all. Redo the tests without favorites.
@PilotNewman wow... you switched over to ATT for the captivate FROM verizon which has the Vibrant, whic is the EXACT same phone, just with a different case and camera flash? ...
@jsero00 Well dude I just got my captivate yesterday and wow. It plays game so fast gets my internet fast and it looks amazing. I have never seen a screen as great on a phone. My girl has the Droid X and its s hit compared to this
Can you please do a review comparing the Samsung Captivate, the Blackberry Torch, and the iPhone 4? I am an AT&T customer and these seem to be the best phones that they are offering now. I'd really like to know what the difference between the three are, the pros and the cons. Thanks so much, I'd really appreciate it!

@ebaul That thing in the middle? I dunno, it looks like some ancient brick, some form of technology from 300 yrs ago. So ugly, and it has a hump.

I cant stop staring at those two midgets next to the droid x

@bribrison Yeah it is pretty damn ugly. I don't think Motorola makes one single good looking phone. They look like they were made in the 80's.

@Gmod10man dude 4.0 inch screen is like the gspot when it comes to cell screens, it JUST right.

Doesn't the Galaxy S have a separate GPU, like the Droid X does? (whereas the Nexus One, and other phones with Snapdragon do not)
