@superbeauthy You're a fucking dumbass.. they don't gas animals. they inject them with something that kills them humanely. Don't fucking talk if you don't know what you're talking about.
when i went through the gas chamber i never had a proper seal...my webbing broke before i could tell a d.s. about it i was being ushered in. i figured it wouldn't be so bad, but it was. it doesn't really matter, they make you take the mask off anyways and make you answer questions. i went through with my unit a few months ago and i didn't have a mask. i had to say the NCO creed. i made it through the first part.
I just loved the expressions my fellow soldiers made coming out of the chamber and turning onto "Chili Mac Road". As a matter of fact, I'm gonna go look at at the yearbook.
@Dustin8569 Hell ya! Went through Jan 88' Had a nasty cold and that stuff cleared me right up... felt great! Of coarse that was after all the coughing and hacking. Later at bivwak, di took one guys mask after they caught him putting it on in his hole when he saw them walk by with c.s. cans taped to a stick, I thought he was gonna' die from the noise's he was making.
when my company went, one of the guys in my platoon blacked out and just went crazy. he started screaming and trying to get out. DS Hofmann, who is a huge guy, picked him up and threw him on the ground. it was the funniest thing i'd ever seen =D
First you walk in take off you're mask and say you're name, rank, and like date of birth.Put you're mask back on and clear it out. Then walk in line and when it's your'e turn take it off again say the soldiers creed with you're eyes open looking at the drill sgt and walk out.It clears you right up if you're sick.
The biggest suprise about the gas chamber to me when I went through, is I ddnt realize that the gas would feel like pepper in my lungs. An unexplainble feeling. But you WILL live. I knew it would make the skin burn, but I didnt know you could feel it in the lungs. You cannot even feel the snot rockets coming out until you walk out of the chamber. But yes it is to instill confidence in the gear you are provided with and the training about the mask.
Me: "I will guard everything within the limits... *gasp* *hack* of my post... *hack* *spit* and quit my post... (another breath) *hack* *hurgh* only when properly relieved.
My brother Cody Is graduating today! He said the worst thing about basic was the gas chambers. I was crying when I saw him yesterday. I missed him so much! Go Foxtrot! :)
it does suck for a few minutes im not going to lie, but most people in Basic Training are sick just from living in the same room as 60 other people and if you have a cold or sinus problems, this REALLY does clear it up in minutes. You'd never believe how much snot you have in your nose until you go through there and it all comes out lmao.
@calebmccary i remmeber doin this in lackland for air force basic training, they had us to push ups and jumping jacks to make you sweat so it burns more. fucked up lol.
@calebmccary At benning we had to strip our gear and place back on our IBA, ACH, and LBV and be wearing it properly and if we didn't don our gear properly we had to run it again until we got it right xP, It was to teach us to withstand pain and operate under pressure.
@calebmccary actually, it's called NBC training. (n)uclear, (b)iological and (c)hemical training. yes, it is to give you confidence in your gear but you're always gonna get issued new gear. it's more to train you and show you what it feels like to get gassed.
@tgbdavila Actually they've updated the name and they now call it CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear). It used to be NBC but that has been updated.
@tgbdavila Yeah, I still usually call it NBC too. It will probably be a long time before it becomes common to call it CBRN. Most DS's probably still call it NBC because that is what they've known for forever.
@0ttoK It's supposed to get you used to gas attacks. And it also is supposed to teach you how to use the equipment for those types of situations. Also partially to man you up, most people would probably break down if they got caught in tear gas, but a soldier needs to be tougher.
Alot of my family has been in the military, and the number one thing they tell me is when in the gas chamber, Stay Calm No Matter What and just remember it will be over soon.
WTH, none of them puked???? the barly look teary eyed, hell when i went through that in 97 they MADE us eat a big b-fast, the whole trail back to the water was covered in fruit loops and eggs. lol
@omgitstanae You'll be fine. It only lasts a few minutes. Just gut it out, do what you're told, and stay calm. Once you get out of the gas chamber the pain and discomfort is completely gone in a matter of minutes.
@thrillbilly2 and so the bus doesn't stink on the way back to the barracks, think of it,40+ newly gassed soldiers on one bus...yes,I went through it this summer
Ahhhhh yes, the good ol'e gas chamber at fort Jackson ! Nothing like the skid burning nose burning and pouring snot hacking away trying to get that next breath of good air. Ahhhhhhhh the good ol'e days !!!! Miss them !

I was at Ft Jackson in 1986, and went through the CS gas chamber. It was nasty, but I made it. So did everyone in my company. Not like we had a choice, LOL!
@TribeofShabazz I'm pretty sure that anyone that picks their MOS to be 11B or anything else that is a combat MOS, they're going to be on the frontlines. So yes, even a "person of color" that picks a combat MOS will be put out on the field. Don't be ignorant.
Now that I've been through it, dang. Haha. That day was interesting. We got smoked right after the gas chamber. And I swear the gas followed me back to the company.
Been there already graduated in april if you are a 74D they make you go through 3 times but it gets better everytime not too bad but the first initial time is the worst
@bandfreaks08 Wow- now that was a surprise reading that. I went through AIT in 92' before going to Ft Gordon for 74D training, and I couldn't understand why in the world they'd send a 74D in 3 times.
