Well I would not say that India is not a 3rd World Country anymore. There is still much poverty in that country - incredible poverty. However, it has quite well in developing a middle class. But I think you are overestimating how much of that is due to socialism. It has found a good mix of capitalism and socialism - but not a good enough mix to make sure that more people benefit from economic development.
