It's not about volume. The mic is for that. It's about controlled breathing and diaphram use. I completely agree but I think the reason gnomeater and people like him have got such an opinion is because screaming is so often monotone.

Lemmy could distort his voice and sing a melody. I miss that and I miss out on so much Metal because I just get so damn tired of listening to vocals with a lack of melody.

i believe it's crucial to note once again, that this concert was in a gym, a large gym. the majority of the moshing was going on in the back, where the cameras aren't visible. so no, this was not a "lame" crowd. there was actually around 200 people there all enjoying the show.
