What power in her hands and forearms! Valentina looks like a big girl sitting over that keyboard. I bet she's at least 6 feet tall. And big hands too. Has a little viking blood in her no doubt! ;^}

for all the people that say faster isn't better, take caution that people could play this several thousand times worse... imagine if the tempo was so slow that the performance was 15 minutes long.... that being said enjoy her mastery of this piece!
I disagree strongly. The minor key does almost all of that for you, and her tempo only makes it better. Especially at the part with the accell. after the rit. around 0:29, her quick tempo only adds to the anxiety and darkness, as well as the playfulness and youth of "*Little* Red Riding Hood" herself.
she played this about six years ago. i was referred to it by john rinehart's son through myspace and glorified it, telling everyone i could've to check it out. she plays it again and it sounds cleaner but less risky. she never played it as fast as rachmaninoff himself but amazing none the less. so this piece was shone in that anti-logical, senseless, societal-destructive movie that i fortunately never watched and never will? rachmaninoff shake in his grave
yo everyone i just read valentina is doing a concert in london and wanted opinions on what to play.... errrm this piece since its so amazing? i know im not the best judge as i'm only 17 but maybe she could play this? its so jaw droppingly amazing....
@Desbiens22 hey im learning the piece and for me i do 5 3 2 1 for the sake it doesnt confuse me. It's like going in order rather than confusing. Try doing it on the table and you will see what i mean
Lisitsa is an extraordinary talent, and she plays this, like most things, with amazing facility. But it's too fast. Half the time I can't hear where the beat is, and it loses shape thereby.
@NevinJarek I can't imagine how this could sound sterile and I haven't had any training in analysis, but I'll give it a shot at trying to put this across from the POV of an amateur. There are two distinct "characters" in this piece, one's light and the other's heavy and threatening, and the piece is about tipping the balance until one wins out. Notice how tension is built and released over and over through the use of seemingly senseless notes, and try to feel the struggle between the characters.
I love the way you play, but I must admit, that in this vid at certain moments you look pretty... high. o.0 @langowin Lucius Malfoy? More like Integra Hellsing ;)
mmm, why do people like rachmaninoff?? Can somebody tell me what it is there to enjoy? Im not taunting or teasing, nor trying to offend, Im genuinely interesting in knowing because this to me sounds incredibly sterile.
@NevinJarek wow you my friend dont know rachmaninoff his music is the complete opposite i dont like your opinion but it IS your opinion so whatever(but still.....really uh uh
@ttslipknotrulez132 um, I know what my opinion is, and yours , and I dont need to hear "thats your opinion, its not mine". I asked for the nature of your opinion, and why does he sounds the opposite of of sterile.
@hwcreatureha It was a joke, but i understand my joke had practically no chance to be understood by anyone here, so it was dumb on my part to do it. Although Lisitsa's rendition is amazing, I think she can't transmit the feeling of anxiety and darkness of the etude.
