  • so amazing

  • Incredible.

  • The briefcase was empty! We threw out a ringer for a ringer!

  • Surprisingly, I knew this song before the Big Lebowski.

  • I FIRST HEARD THIS (BACK IN THE EARLY 70'S) ON AN LP CALLED "FILL YOUR HEAD WITH ROCK" WHICH WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE TRACKS ON IT (ALONG WITH "COME TO THE SABBAT" BY BLACK WIDOW, FLOCK'S VERSION OF THE KINKS CLASSIC "TIRED OF WAITING"

  • @gilllew I'm totally with you, along with Rockbuster and Together!, three great CBS compilation albums. Shame there was room for Moondog on only one of them.

  • You're living in the past, man.

Three thousand years of beautiful tradition, from Moses to Sandy Koufax...

YOU'RE GODDAMN RIGHT I'M LIVING IN THE FUCKING PAST!

  • @tiagob0592 Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

  • @Malkmusianful Yeah, well, you know, that's like, you're, a cunt, man.

  • Had the album 4 decades ago.....who the Hell is Brion Gysin? Dave Grusin rings some stuff

  • @Rikk303 Gysin was an artist. He worked with William S. Burroughs on the cut-up technique, invented the Dream Machine and did a lot of work in calligraphy and painting. Died in '86.

  • @curiousjapan

Btw, Brion Gyson introduced the Stones to the Drummers of Jajouka, which helped bring us Trance music.

  • @sohosean That's cool, and I had no idea - I only knew of their connection with Brian Jones from the 'Stones (and this only because Joe Strummer mentioned it once during his world music show on the BBC World Service).

  • It's amazing! Since I Know it I play the drums with my fingers.

  • It's amazing! Since I knew it I can't stop playing the drums with my fingers.

  • the voice in the beginning is not moondog. It's Brion Gysin.

  • @Idiocracy2040 Is the film you're thinking of "Big Lebowski"?

  • @Idiocracy2040 Fascinating. That is pretty awesome your mind can segmentize things like that. I actually thought you just said that to troll people (cause of your track record) lol. Do you know remember what the film was called by any chance?

  • @Idiocracy2040 I enjoyed this video, but I didn't want to sit through the entire 2:40 of it. Why did you post this comment? Are you just trying to waste people's time on youtube? Or was that your honest interpretation of the song? And if it was, please explain how you came to the conclusion.

  • machines were mice and men were lions once upon a time, but now that its the opposite its twice upon a time...

  • Oh my God i think i just fell in love with a viking.

  • Bach reincarnated as a viking

  • God, I love this bassoon part. I play it just for fun xD

  • I remember hearing this song in MUsic Class. We learned about this type of music and the composer.

  • We played Moondog albums in our electronic lab at National Semi in Santa Clara in the early '70's...great working conditions!! NEVER forgot the charm and energy of Moondog!! Thanks for posting.

  • How can he resemble Jesus when no-one knows what Jesus looked like? If he existed he probably looked like Bin-Laden anyway!!!

  • мундог - гений!

  • And now i keep thinking of moondog walking down a sidewalk with someone constantly whispering

"no, go over there. Over THERE"

  • Is it just me, or just he kinda resemble Jesus?

  • @boogeyman595 in an extremely superficial way, yes

  • @boogeyman595 That's just like, your opinion man.

  • Dude I see what your getting at, but how is this an emergency?

  • What is it that makes a man, dude?

  • Machines were mice and men were lions once upon a time. But now that it's the opposite it's twice upon a time

  • AMAZING!!

  • this is used to great effect in the film the big lebowski!

  • dug up this 45 at the record store, knew nothing about it,so sick

  • just tried listening to this without tapping fingers or feet.....nope cant be done

    infectious

  • I like to imagine Moondog died standing on top of a mountain in Germany during a thunder storm... This guy is the ultimate in Badass.

  • this guy was born 1916 and was blind, hes amazing

  • Stamping Ground always gets me moving, I put it in the background of whatever I'm doing and for the next couple of minutes I'm tapping my foot or nodding my head as I work. Really gets into you and you can't get it out of you.

  • superb!

  • I like how this is the dark, moodier brother to Bird's Lament.

  • i guess this would be thrice upon a time.

  • So powerful....so so good.

  • way to go Donny!

  • Mais putain comme il déboite ce jazzman, c'est génial :coeur:

  • te wise guys used this as a sample on there intro on the album executive suite

  • and Laibach used it in "For You Blue"

  • woooa

  • awesome track, can someone tell me what album/vinyl this is on?

  • Moondog (1969) :)

  • machines were mice and mens were lions once upon a time... but now that its the opposite its twice upon a time...

ok kinda makes sense.. but can someone tell me that the "twice upon a time" is meaningless before my head explodes from analyzing this

  • no man, i'm afraid its mot meaningless!!!

  • Could it be that reality is now a shadow of the true story?!?

  • @IxCloudxIx

    there's always one.

  • @IxCloudxIx Twice upon a time means that its happeining again. Its implying that now that machines have gained dominance the world will happen all over again.

  • simply genius

  • Moondog has a had a profound effect on my outlook on life. Mozart would have loved him.

  • grooooooße klasse

  • loving MoonDog!!!!!

  • is he the one saying that weird shit in the beginning?

  • if by "weird shit" you mean genious profound nonconcrete poetry, then yes. this is some VERY wird shit

  • why can't the abnormal be instead of abnormal, Extraordinary?

  • @GoChokeOn1 lolage

  • WOW this guy is crazy. Cool stuff though

  • No One mentioned that the version found on The Big Lebowski Soundtrack has a whole other part that is 2:45 (roughly) BEFORE the talking even begins on this track. So where is the long version on that soundtrack from?

  • Ok, well actually I think I just figured it out. The song "Theme" appears before "Stamping Ground" on The Big lebowski Soundtrack (Although "theme" is not credited). This is also the natural progression of tracks found on his 1969 self-titled album. Although AllMusic stated (1952) after they mentioned "Theme". Was it written in 52' but not recorded till 69"?

  • This LP was one of the gems of my vinyl days. Moondog was ahead of his time. Incredible!!!

  • They put two songs together. The other one is called Bird's Lament.

  • sick composition

  • What's sick about this composition?

  • :) ahaa

  • means it's totally awesome

  • yes thats not a normal composition

    bit sicker

  • I listened to this album as a wee little boy. I'd love it if you posted the remaining tracks.

  • Human Paraquats

  • This track is actually named "Stomping grund". Great track!

  • no it isn't

  • Yes, it really is. Read my lips!

  • No, it really isn't.

Admitting you're wrong is actually an endearing character trait.

  • Sorry old mate, but you're wrong - I possess the LP album "Fill Your Head With Rock" from the early 70's. It clearly states that the track is named "Stomping Ground". Check the album for yourself and your eyes will be opened. So much for "an endearing character trait"!

  • "Fill Your Head with Rock" does indeed spell it "StOmping Ground", but this is actually a misspelling.

The original CBS "Moondog" LP spells it "StAmping Ground", with the "A" (so does the actual vinyl label on the "Fill Your Head with Rock" LP itself).

Also, FYHwR is only a CBS label sampler, and was released a year AFTER the "Moondog" LP, so it's pretty safe to say "StOmping Ground" is actually just a typo. sorry about that...

  • Oh no - my life is devastated! Well, being the humble person I am I bend my head and admit that I was wrong - for almost forty years I've thought it the correct spelling was "Stomping Ground"...

Oh well....I like the track just as much as I did back then, when i was a handsome young man!

  • why isnt there more out there on moondog, I want see an interview

  • he's "cult" baby!

    indeed a shame

  • Now THAT was a great one.

  • @WestwoodGryphon it WAS not a great one. it IS a great one!
