  • Will this assembly be the same on an 02 Pontiac firebird? Thanks

  • @SuperLeeallen The Pontiac Firebird window regulator is different. Here's a link to them on our website. 1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Pontiac/Firebird/-/-/2002?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=1ATony

  • i bought a 1995 grand am 2 door with manuel hand crank windows and both are off track. can anyone tell me how to fix this?

  • @xMurderxmurderjoey There are a couple of springs on those window regulators. You might want to check to see if they are still intact. If you can't repair them we do sell new replacement ones on our website 1aauto.com Here's a link to them on our website. 1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Pontiac/GrandAm/1AWRK00287/515893/1995?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=1ATony

  • I've got a question

My 02 Grand am Drivers side power window is fail. The motor is fine, but it doesn't pull down the window. It sounded like something snapped off inside the door or something...Any ideas?

  • @KissRocksForever The window regulator may have broke. You may wan to take the door panel off to see if this is the case. We sell new window regulators on our website 1aauto.com Cool avatar by the way. I've seen Kiss 5 times....lol

  • ***Question***

Great video. One question. I replaces the window regular clips and Sash Connectors. But when I lower the window the window pulls out of the sash connectors. The old ones were melted on the window. How do you install the sash connectors to the window?

  • @Mr16430 They should connect to the lower part of the window with a special adhesive, and then bolt to the window regulator where the hole is in the tab.

  • Is this something a1 sells? What is that part number?

  • @Mr16430 We sure do. Here's a link to them on our website. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Pontiac/GrandAm/1AWRG00523/266741/1999?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=1ATony

  • Sorry for the confusion, but I was talking about the adhesive your referenced before. The link you provided was for the sash clips.

  • @Mr16430 We do not carry the adhesive. You may want to visit our local auto body supply store, and they could help you out with the correct adhesive.

  • ****QUESTION****

My 2002 Alero passenger side window is very slow and occasionally rolls up crooked as if its off track and sometimes stops half way up.

Is this videos' tutorial my problem as well?

  • @83th3l You may want to take the door panel off and look at the regulator as it goes up and down. Once the panel is off then you can more than likely see what's causing the issue. Hope this helps you out.

  • I am alomost 99% there...but...here is my problem. This is on my daughters 98 Grand Prix. I replaced the regulator without a problem. The issue is the wires that wrap around the inner area are "frayed" and the whole assembly needs to be replaced. I cannot get that part off nor away from holding the window. It seems if I do I wont be able to get the whol cable and window holder portion part back in that same spot. Make sense? Help.

  • @phouli65 You should be able to hold the window up with some painters tape, and then unbolt the window regulator from the window and remove it. Hope this helps you out.

  • Shouldn't you glue the window onto the regulator?

  • @heroes91092 You would need to rebolt it to the window regulator.

  • Thank You, Thank You, Thank you!!! This video saved me so much money. I am a 43 year old woman who has never worked on cars before by using this video I was able to replace the window regulator in my daughters car. It was not too difficult, but is helpful if you have someone to help hold the window in place during the final steps.

  • I have a 99 Grand am, both my windows don't roll up or down anymore, and they keep sliding down because( Im guessing) the hinges that hold them up are broken, but I'm not entirely sure what is going on with it.

  • @GameTelescope You may want to take the door panels off and see if the window regulators are broke. We carry them on our website 1aauto.com

  • I think my car may have been missing some pieces or something. What holds the window down into the plastic groove? Is it just gravity? It seems like my window will just come out of the groove when I roll it down.

  • @dgriff1n There should be some plastic clips that hold the bottom of the window to the regulator called window sash connectors. We sell them on our website. Here's a link to them, they're currently out of stock, but if you add your email address to the "Notify Me" button, you'll receive an email when they are available. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Pontiac/GrandAm/1AWRG00523/266741/1999

  • Hey I have the same car. I bought this car lastnight and the passenger window won't work. He said that it wasn't the motor. He said something was wrong with the "pulley"? I'm not sure what this is. Do you have any idea?

  • @heroes91092 He may have meant that the window regulator has gone bad. We sell new ones on our website 1aauto.com.

  • Thanks I just save 200 bucks

  • Just goes to show that anything and everything is on the internet! Tackling this project on the same car in the video tomorrow. Thanks a ton for the walk through :)

  • I have a 2002 grand prix gt. the front passenger side window made a cracking type sound when I went to raise it up. I can hear the motor working but the window will not go up.Is the reg. @ motor sold only as a unit? Is the video similar for replacing a g.p. regulator?

  • @SuperRammy1 We sell window regulators on our website both with and without the window motor for your 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. Here's a link to them on our website.

    1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Pontiac/GrandPrix/-/-/2002?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=1ATony

  • okay I have a question my regulator is out and when i went to go look at it the piece that you say in this video that should be attach to the window. well part of mine is attach and the rest is broken off with the medal peice. do i have to get a new window or how can i fix it

  • @mrsracandy the window should attach to the channel in the window regulator.

  • I have a 2000 alero, and the window regulator is destoryed, but i cant find the car at a junk yard, can i take a regulator from the grand am to be placed in my alero? PLEASE HELP!

  • @DjG3rM4N We carry new window regulators for your 2000 Oldsmobile Alero on our website. They come with a warranty and free shipping too. Here's a link to them on the site, if you would like to check them out. 1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Oldsmobile/Alero/-/-/2000

  • @DjG3rM4N Thanks! The pairs are going to make the cost a lot cheaper!

will defiantly recommend the website to others!

  • Good video! I have a 2002 Olds Alero 4-door. The front driver side window regulator is broken. Is the proceedure for my car close enough that this video will apply?

  • @laptopcommando Yes this video will apply to your vehicle.

  • I own a 99 grand am just like the one in this video. I am for going to try this! My window has malfunctioned for about a year and finally tonight it didn't want to roll back up. Do I have to find a new regulator? Or should I take out the regulator so it sits properly?

  • @filipina1979 If it has manual windows check to see if there's something binding it up inside the door. If there isn't then it's more than likely the door regulator that has worn out. If you have electric windows, the window motor may be tired, you could try to spray some silicon spray on the weatherstrip that seals around the window on your 1999 Pontiac Grand AM.

  • If you need a window regulator we carry them on our website with free shipping. Copy and paste this link into your browser 1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Pontiac/GrandAm/-/-/1999?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=1ATony

  • Thanks for the help. I received a new regulator assembly today and have it installed. When I go to attach the window both hole for the bolts will not align. Do I need to :rig the cables before I installed into the door?

  • @adcnortty your new window regulator should bolt right in as the video shows. You may want to check to make sure that the cables aren't twisted and that the window bracket is facing the right way.

  • I have a 2002 Grand Am and I have taken the Passenger Door apart due to the window will not work. I have found the white clip that screws into the window on the front track is broken. Can I order these clips or do you have to order the whole motor/cable assembly?

  • @adcnortty Yes we do have these available on our website. They are called window regulator sash connectors. Here's a link to them on our website, just copy and paste into your browser.

    1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Pontiac/GrandAm/1AWRG00523/266741/1999?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=1ATony

  • @1aauto Hi bro! I have a question that You may be can help me out ...I have f150 and every time I load up or down the glass of my window (manual) makes a loud noise like a whistle ... do you think I should change the window regulator? or can be something else? thanks

  • @bardaso It sounds like there may be something binding on the window regulator. It could possible also be a dry weatherstrip seal. You could try a little silicon spray on them if that's the case.

  • Hello Just replaced the window regulator on our 2004 Pontiac Grandam. The window goes down very well, but has to have help to go back up. Do you have any suggestions? We also replaced the window clips...that was a big job!

  • @sritz1967 You could try to use some silicone spray (found at the auto parts store) to spray on the weatherstrip around the door glass. This will help it to glide easier.

  • @1aauto I will try this first...it seems like the motor is not strong enough to lift it up because you can barely hear it when you are pushing the up button. Do you think any of the cables could be making this happen or possibly a bad motor on the new regulator? The motor works great on taking the window down...Thanks!

  • @sritz1967 It sounds this the window has a great deal of resistance on it somewhere slowing it down.

  • my window is stuck in the up position and i cant unscrew both window clips that are attached one of the green pully wheels was found in door panel my motor makes noise but doesnt move the glass how can i make the glass go down enough to get to those window clips???

  • @bossman519 Take a look at the cables to see if they are caught on something, preventing the window from moving down.

  • @1aauto how do ya take out a window without scratching the tint both clips are broken on my passanger side window like the clip in your video was broken but u didnt show how u fixed it sorry for bugging u im laid off and cant afford to have someone else do it and in three years both windows were fixed at the shop (new clips and regulators) two times both my reciepts add up to $860.00 parts n labour these plastic parts keep breaking the bank

  • Re: 2000 Grand Am

Thanks so much for your great video. whole motor and regulator replacement went quick and easy. I will pass this info to anyone needing help on window fixes

Mike, You Rock! The few minor part discrepancies were not a problem.

Got my parts with car purchase and window motor was wired backwards,,,easy fix with butt splices.

  • ***grand am won't go up. I have to manually push it up and some times the window falls down when I hit a bump.. What do you think is the problem?

  • do you have a video for replacement of powersteering for a pontiac grand prix? do you know if there's a recall for the powerstering for a pontiac grand prix 2000.

  • Great video. If I ever order parts I will come to you guys!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! With your help I was able to fix this with the help of my son - all by our selves!!! Both my front windows have been broken for a YEAR. So HAPPY ONE WORKS AGAIN!!! Now for the drivers side window... YAY!

  • Great video. May be ordering a regulator. Had a broken sash clip that I replaced 2 months ago... already broke again. Do you think this is a regulator issue where it is somehow tracking improperly and causing the clips to fail? Replacing the clips is a pain, so if I'm going to do it again, I may just do the regulator, too, if you think it will help.

  • I am about to change my guide clips on the driver's side door of my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, I got the clips from Auto Zone for about $9. We had found out the clips were broken and scattered inside the door frame making it impossible for the window to go up and down.

  • Went and bought my new regulator today now to out it in

  • Thanks for the video. It'll save me some money.

My 2000 Grand AM 4-door actually had just the Window Channel Guides break on my driver's side door. Is it possible to just replace them or do I have to replace the whole regulator?

    Thanks again.

  • Awesome videos, Chilton leaves some safety details out that you mentioned, (taping glass, etc..) I left my window down too many times during rain storms and the manual WR got rusted thus pushing window out of track. After conjuring the motivation to replace it, it's not so bad, I'd rather do brakes though. I have a 94 grand am 2dr, for anyone that has rivets holding the regulator, pop out the stem of rivet with an awl and hammer (hit it like you mean it too). Nut and bolt the new one IMO.

  • I had to replace a rear window regulator this video was a huge help. I would have not even got the door panel off without it :D

  • good video, but when i checked my grand am i realized it was the white plastic window guide on the cable. i had already bought the sash from my dealer and it was 30$, luckily they had a return policy since i didn't open them. i'm gonna try to remove the regulator like in the video and add new guides to it. thanks for showing me how to take it off. Maybe you can show me how to change the fuel filter on the Grand am too, its in a tight spot. Thanks

  • @ant1h Thanks for watching. We offer brand new window regulator assemblies located at 1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Pontiac/GrandAm/-/-/1999

  • Hi, i have a '99 grand am and my driver side window is broken and you know when you stopped the video and circled the white clip that is broken, well that is what is wrong with mine. i was wondering if that is something that i would be able to fix? its also starting to happen on my other window too and my car is a two door.

  • @mdgx3 you may be able to buy one of those replacement clips from you local dealer.

  • I just changed the regulator in my Alero, your video helped me, thanks!

  • hey mike. great video! My 2000 Grandam 2-door has a similar problem. Only, it appears to be only a broken sash clip on the drivers door. (the back one, closest to the trunk i guess u mite say). half the clip is still attatched to the window and the rest (attached to the cable, came off in my hand. so my question is, how to remove the window in order to get the "half clip" off and what it the best way to get the extremely sticky epoxy off? On your vid, the window came right out of the resting?

  • @kcslim Very good questions. I will have to get a grand am in here and do a video on those sash clips.

  • my pontiac sunfire '98 had both windows jammed, i can only lower them about 3 in. but when i want to raise them it only goes up like half an inch and i have to keep pressing on the switch every 5 mins. because it wont move if i press it one right after another. do i have to replace or order a new motor/regulator or is there something else i can do about it?

or might the problem be something else??

    thanx!

  • @MrSiko11208 I'd take the door panels off and investigate. Have there been any aftermarket items installed such as speakers or door locks??

  • awesome video. really help but i also need to know how to get the window out of the car.

  • @ElisaDawn1989 Once you have unbolted the window from the reg you should be able to rotate the back of the window forward and to the outside of the car then pull the window up and out.

  • Just want to say thanks for the video. Made replacing the regulator very simple and fast. Local shop wanted over $400.00. Nice job!!!!

  • after watching this, it was easy... thanks!

  • Awesome video! I used this to replace my regulator in my 1999 GT. One question... what would cause the switch to be reversed? I now have to pull the switch back to raise and push it up to lower!?? The connector only goes on one way.

  • @mrhousto The leads in to the regulator are backward. I'll do a video on correcting this problem soon.

  • Do you guys have the plastic peice that actually goes on the window...... the part that you noticed was broken

  • @littlemanmays1187 We sell them on our website they are called sash connectors. They are under the window regulator category or you can just search 'grand am sash'

  • The window on my 2000 oldsmobile alero quit working. It popped real loud and fell down and now it won't go back up. I took it apart and I found a plastic piece laying in the bottom of the door. The plastic piece is white and in 2 pieces. Can you tell me what this is called? Exactly where does it belong?thanks

  • @nascardodgeram You probably need a new sash connector. You can find them on our website by searching or under the window regulator category.

  • the method you use here to replace the Regulator. Can I use the same method for a 1994 Bonneville? I need to replace the Driver side regulator.

  • @tallarico84 The process is similar for your Bonneville.

  • @1aauto Thank You. I did it. Window now Works BUT! The power Mirrors and the interior Lights do not Work now. What did I do wrong?

  • @tallarico84 Sounds like you did not re-attach all the harnesses correctly. Take the panel back off and check all your harness connections.

    Mike

  • Thank you so very much for posting this, my whole window fell in the door and the dealership here gave me an estimate of $500 for a repair. Turns out that the "blooper" you had was the same problem I had. The piece that moved the window up and down the track shattered. That ought to be fairly cheap to replace. Once again, thank you!

  • @Cassady1AndOnly We sell those on our website!

  • I'm so glad I found this video...just changed two front regulators in no time. The shop quoted me a while back at $600 for a single replacement (which I thought was ridiculous)! I got a pair of new regulators from ebay for $75 and spent about an hour replacing them. Just saved $1100...this calls for a beer.

  • @pzcato Your Welcome! Please consider checking out our website next time you need parts.

  • What's leaking from that engine?

And say, have you a video and/or suggestions for doing the passenger side on 98 Grand Am 2-door?

  • @BondoFox Nothing leaking just some melting snow running down the driveway. I have not yet taken apart a '98 so I can't help you directly. I can say that it is probably similar, some screws and bolts then clips hold it on. My advice is just don't force it. If it does not seem to be coming apart, pause look for another screw or bolt before pulling or potentially breaking something.

  • got ur fixed and looking good thaxs for the video....it helped alot

  • do you have a video for a pontiac grand prix or are they pretty much the same since its a gm vehicle..

  • @djbigtrill The Grand Prix will be similar. Small differences in removing the door panel but beyond that they are the same.

  • I've managed to put the new regulator in my car (front driver-side) but there are two problems I'm dealing with. The window doesn't roll up all the way (leaves about a 1/2 inch gap at the top), and the power switch is reversed so that pushing down on the switch makes the window roll up instead of down. Any suggestions?

  • @Garonyldas As far as the switch being backward, your regulator is wired backward. It is fixable. You need a small screw driver or paperclip. Note or take a picture of how the regulator wires are installed in the plastic connector. With the regulator unplugged force the small screwdriver or a paperclip in to the middle of each terminal. It should unlock a tab then the wire pulls out from the back side. Pull the tab on the terminal back up so it will lock back in to the connector.

  • @Garonyldas As far as not going up all the way that is very odd. The regs usually just go until they either the window is all up or the down until it hits the bottom stop. If you want send me a PM with where you purchased the reg from. There are various manufacturer's of these regs and we like to avoid the lower quality ones.

  • I already bought a replacement regulator, but this video was extremely helpful and I'll check you guys out the next time I need a part. Thanks!
