  • Comedy genius. Miss you, Peter

  • Unique talent. One of the Pythons said normal comedy writers write and re-write and refine until a sketch is ready, so it takes a day to write a 5 minute sketch. But Peter Cook took 5 minutes to write a 5 minute sketch. And that was it. Done. That's genius, when you have no idea how they do it.

  • Russell Brand ..... !!

  • She can serve drinks, but not peanuts at the same time.

Priceless nearly choked on my drink!

  • DVD???? Will they bring it out?

  • What! Russell Brand is crap.

  • are you kidding my friend, peter cook would be disgraced and embarrased by the depths to which russel brand has sunk his profession

  • Peter Cook went to some pretty low depths if you actually listen to his material in '76. instead of carping why don't some of you listen. Cook was a true genius, I'm merely poiting out there are similarities in natural style with Brand. Don't be so neanderthal.

  • I have rarely seen such an offensive comment. To compare Cook to the unbelievably talentless Brand is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. For shame.

  • @SuperRustyBoy You can obviously spot one genius and yet not another type of one. Not all comedic genius is of quite the same type. Brand is very clever, believe me. His persona is quite remarkable- it's like Kenneth Williams meets a Dickensian Jack Sparrow. Far from the image some have of him as just some efette fop, he is frequently forensic in his ability to analyse situations. Have you seen Ponderland for instance?

  • @shakercoola

The same style? I can only assume you are heading for second place in the list of greatest comments.

Yes mate. Tracy Emin is also in the same style as Rembrant. Blah blah blah.

  • Genius.

  • if you research into who people think are the funniest comedians, the great Peter Cooke is not mentioned if at all. cracks me up every time. PC: .."poor people have to make do with the NHS" , Clive..."you mean legal aid"....lol

  • a few years ago british tv did a poll of comedians choosing the best comedians, and he came in at number 1

  • Surely Cook was great enough to have his surname spelt correctly, no? His genius warrants at least that respect, even if he is a little lifeless nowadays.

This was a terrific sketch anyway. Cook's brilliance gave a spectacular flash in these interviews with Clive Anderson, in my opinion, and it made Peter's death all the more tragic, just as it seemed he was enjoying his life again.

  • As far as I know, it's spelled Peter Cook.

  • Yes, but it's a good deterrent!

  • At his best , is there anyone to touch Peter Cook ?? Shame he made so few TV appearences.

  • He made quite a lot of TV appearances in the 1960s on his Not Only But Also series with Dudley Moore, but the BBC wiped most of the tapes! Cheers, Auntie Beeb... :-(

  • Check out "Why Bother" on CD, Cook with Chris Morris. Utterly brilliant.

  • Yes it is brilliant. He plays Arthur Streeb-Greebling on that but it's essentially the same character.

  • @marillion1

Even grater shame that the Beeb erased so many of the tapes.

  • who better to take the law into their own hands than a judge?

  • But capital punishment has been abolished.

Yes it has, except in neck of the woods!

Sheer sublime genius & sadly missed
