Now that is a crash!! Thats the way to end it , time for a new ARF. My buddy crashed the same HellCAT , but he was able to save the wing and buy a new fuse.cool vid. he was running a 100 evolutution.
Hangar 9 has become a huge name just like great planes but they now seem to have started missing things. I admire you dude such a great loss and you are still smiling. I know how it feels when you lose a plane, I lost 2 Hangar 9's P51 Mustang, one due to receiver failure one was my mistake inverted high speed low pass, and GP's Escapade fluttering & again receiver problem. But we guys are so persistent, we would never give up and continue to fly no matter what. Got me a Strega 40 ARF Now :)
Well! That was a nice plane, lol. In my opinion that crash was simply by going the wrong way with the controls. Look at the elevators after the plane hit the ground(4:29) you will see..
Dude...What a shame!!!! That was one kick-ass plane...From my own perspective your flying experience seems to be more than adequate.I've seen similiar cases where the pushrod loses its torque due to excessive flexibility.I agree with your advice of a servo mounted closer to the stab.H9 needs to fix the problem.I also admire the fact that you kept your composure after the crash!!!!
I was there & witness the crash, after investigating probable cause with all the experience flyers on the field agreed on manufacturer failure. When Charlie maiden the
hellcat, after a rutine visual inspection I said to him that I did not like having the elevator servo up front do the extreme force
generated by the elevator. The plywood that holds the elevator rod had no reinforcement
nor rear exit gide. Knowing Charlie,he wants to warn others from having similar crash.
You guys are way too much. Who the hell said anything about me trying to get a new plane from Horizon? Steak happens to be correct that it was nothing but a warning. Just for the record I by no means a newbie to flying and i happen to know whith 100 percent accuracy that it was a faliure in the elevator. And in the end of the video I do make the statement that speed was a factor, but I feel if they caution you on one plane they should do the same on the other. You guys have serious issues...
Well why then would they recommend a .75 if its too much for the plane to handle. Thats for the positive comment. Didn't mommy ever tell you that if you have nothing nice to say that you shouldnt say anything at all?
Yeah no kidding, I agree with you, if you cant say anything nice then dont say anything. I know exactly what happened to your plane cause it happened exactly the same way to mine. If they cant handle the power then Horizon shouldnt recommend that much. This is a video of a product failure not a pilot error. Maybe those who dont understand that should stuck to there small stupid electric fliers.
The NTOA conclusions in a crash of this magnitude amaze me. The impact could have caused the separation. Expecting a mfg. to replace product based off of a video (especially this 1) is ludicrous. The "key" moment isn't even there. Your "mommy" comment is rediculous, as I'd bet I've more RC experience than most here. To prove something with a video requires footage acquired w/ some skill. This ain't. Determining anything from this vid is ludicrous. RCU (not UT) is the place for flowery support.
I was told by a horizon tech that this was a common problem. The point is this..1 dont assume that you have more flying experience than anybody else here cause truthfully you have absolutely no idea how long myself or anybody else has been flying or what our skill level is. 2.dont come on you tube downing somebodys video by making yourself out to be a big shot. on
Infering that I fly park flyers, and some other clown's use of "mommy", eludes that I'm a punk kid. Couldn't be more false, hence my "experience" comment.
RE: big shot. I know quite a bit about acquiring quality footage, and this video employs none of it. I have issues with poorly shot footage, regardless of subject. You may think this is great footage. I find it hideous. We'll just have to "agree to disagree" on that.
Get another ARF, take the necessary precautions, and find a real "shooter".
I usually don't reply to comments made by underage viewers, however due to the fact that you are having trouble understanding I have to say: He is not trying to proof anything! this is just good advice,& warning about a malfunction w/the kit, what can be done to fix it. If u can afford to pay a professional video crew to follow u and record all your steps, then good for u, but this was not the case, he clearly knows how to fly, this video like the other 10 million rc videos here is amateur.
Steak32, If your age is correct in your profile, my being underage is you being an infant. RE: the vid. It doesn't require a professional video crew...just someone with a decent camera who actual cares about the quality of the footage they shoot (and the ability to properly prep 4 YT). Isn't difficult. Just requires thought and attention...and a single-minded focus on the task at hand. When that all comes together, these things can actually be watchable. And even non-RCr's can then enjoy them.
This video shows nothing more than one of there planes being flown very very hard. What's with the "pedal to the metal" on a subject like this? If you want to show proof of a defect with a video, you're going to have to have a much better quality vid than this. Have no idea what we're looking at most of the time. The only stable part of the entire thing were the images at the front end.
Man dont feel to bad the same thing happened to my Hellcat on the 5th flight. I called Horizon Hobby about it and they just kind blew me off. Mine was also in a dive and I lost everything including my saito 100!

I agree, I really don't see how this was Hangar 9's fault. Whenever you do things out of design parameters, you are asking for trouble.

Bummer -- it was flying so nice (they always do just before they die). Sure made a mess of that engine too!

actually I think it was the P-51 they recommend rear placement of the servo, anyhow, its one or the other...
vendetta0357 3 years ago
Not a bad idea.. I know they recommend placement of the servo in the rear for the P-47 if flying "Aerobatics"... Why not the hellcat?

Sorry about the plane Charly, you should send this video to Horizon, I like to see what would be their take on the single control cable guide.
