  • Is anyone else insanely impressed that the lead singer for this band screamed for about 24 seconds straight? I know I am.

  • @Blarghman777 Yep

  • @Blarghman777 I always try to sing along, but never manage...

  • @ThcPatient That's understandable, it's not an easy feat!

  • press 8 for vocal challenge

  • I love Tool fans...

  • @Poisonseed I love TOOL! :D

  • when i was young i though this was The Grudge Theme Song LOL

  • Its probably difficult for an artist to completely separate him/herself from the work, so there must be a list a smidgeon of autobiographical bizniss in there... these guys are still human... Most humans need to work on grudges and our inability to forgive others. it is in every belief system known to man. and what if the kingdom of heaven was here on earth? and forgiveness was the start? terrified of being wrong? justify denials? Thank you for showing us the way!

  • johnny and handsome--you two are in somewhat of agreement... tho you don't know it...

  • ACTUALLY, this is really about.... eh, nvm. Just kidding.

  • Dude... u dont know in how many levels this work on me

  • This song is about how sometimes a band is afraid to release a new album, so they keep making up excuses to keep working on it. To stop it from eating up their lives, they have to stop being afraid and "let go."

  • Let it go...

  • made me come

  • Someone told me once that if you listen very closly at 6:57 you can hear God shitting his pants at how awesome this song is.

  • @Leadlobotamist it use to be the most highly rated coment but somone beat it

  • @Leadlobotamist does it have to be god, asshole? go to hell.

  • That's interesting because someone told me that if you listen very closely at 3:51, you can hear the clicking of Jesus playing chess with Cthulhu while Godzilla and King Kong arm wrestle each other and Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers are riding dragons shooting lighting and fire out of their blades down at thousands of Imperial Stormtroopers who are fighting off robotic silver-back gorillas under the command of Eddie who is riding King Ghidorah with Natalie Portman into the sunset. Yep.

  • @hj7397 Come on,now,that's just exaggerated.

  • @hj7397 lame/fail

  • Iron Maiden really?

  • 6:58 Maynard doesn't sound too happy :(

  • At 7:00 explodes a fucking EARGASM

  • Does anybody else find it ironic that people are so adamant about how their musical taste precedes others in the comments of a song that discourages that exact state of mind?

  • @thunderrrrrrrrrr yeah but the worst is those fan who are like tooll are awsome and just dosent get the meaning of the song... and tool made an album just for them and almost all americain buy it lol those fan are just innocent and stupid.

  • @thunderrrrrrrrrr Well said bro !

  • Love this song, love everything about it. Plus the bassline is heavy as fuck at points, awesome to play.

Also, to anyone who thinks they may know, anyone have any idea what the "Saturn ascends, choose one or ten" lyrics are about and how they relate? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

  • @SlappaDeBassMon saturn is known in astrological terms as the lord of karma.. <3

  • @moonbeamoflove Really? Interesting, that makes sense. Thanks fo the info.

  • @SlappaDeBassMon it means get it right or Saturn will come around again teaching the same lesson until you do it

  • @SlappaDeBassMon "Saturn ascends" is from astrology, Saturn is called the serious planet because it makes you worry about time. "Choose 1 or 10" is from numerology, both of those numbers have the same meaning ("ego" I think) so it probably means a false choice.

  • @handsomebrick

It's about obssessive compulsive people, and the influence that Saturn has on them. Tool, like many current thinkers, mary the ocult with our everyday knowledge. Saturn is the greek Kronus (Time) and it's power has been associated with misery, despair and intense passions that lead from one end to another. Moreover, the last lines of this song are a reference to alchemy and the power to transmutate one's self.

Tool has a very coherent way of doing things..

  • @johnnyfn The reference to alchemy is all symbolism. The grudge is being represented as a stone. Give the grudge away and reap the sweet reward. People get too obsessed with metaphor sometimes.

  • @dujl Not quite, for you see the metaphor needs to fit in perfectly - and it does. They use the simbolism of ancient knowledge - alchemy and astrology - to tell you how to do it. Not just giving away, cause no one fitting that pattern of behaviour can just simply "give away the stone", but transmutating one's self by the process of alchemy. The only leaden stone that one must transmutate into gold ( and remember that this is in the lyrics) is the stone of alchemy. And the metaphor fits perfectly

  • @joaofbgn Sure, but knowing the metaphor doesn't really increase the understanding of the song, it merely enrichens the lyrical narrative and inflerence I suppose.

  • @dujl It kind of does, because it takes you to a different level of understanding and, ultimately, it makes you perceive the whole song in a whole new different way. Words are nothing but signs, which we interpretate according to our previous knowledge; but, when we have the knowledge to understand them, some signs assume a new form, a unique meaning - one that can only be that. So, when you know what alchemy is and you see the lyrics of this song, you know that too many signs point that way.

  • @dujl Also, the song describes the classic obssessive-compulsive behaviour - and, when we talk about obssessive compulsive people, we know that their way of operating is really like some sort of grudge, for they cannot escape it. That is represented by the influence of Saturn. And the lyrics, in the end, point out only one way of escaping, which is changing the entire picture - not just "letting go", cause that's not possible for those ppl -, by the process of alchemy. Tool love the esoteric...

  • @dujl So it kind of makes sense that the music and the lyrics form a whole. Art has always been subject to all kinds of interpretations, but words and sentences still have their established meaning. It's what happens here. (srry, but youtube makes you split your comment into several ones lol)

  • @joaofbgn Well, I don't see how knowing anything about that symbolism contributes to my understanding of the message itself. Tool's messages are often quite simple and straightforward, and should be perceived as such.

  • An amazing song, one of the first Tool songs i ever heard. I have since come to realize that they appeared on Guitar hero 4: World Stage. These guys rock, and they need to friggen come down to Panama... seriously

  • this is a residual Bigbang Fragment

  • 6:59

  • @M3GTR ORLEY?

  • wats dis song abut????

  • @666miyuru its about gay niggers

  • @M3GT r u serious

  • @M3GTR Now, now brown cow.

  • The Grudge

  • Goddamn fucking EPIC. Tension....release. Masterful.

  • @TheDreamMechanic I finally found the words to describe this amazing song in your post.

  • Danny Cary is the neil pert of our generation his offbeats are intoxicating . Tool is amazingly talented . people will listen to them in the future and be like wow ahead of their time just how we can still listen to great music from the past and feels no age .

  • @Sparks424 Danny Carey > Neil peart XD

  • @chesspiece11 i have to agree Neil pert is old now hes still amazing but time for him to pass the tourch to Danny

  • dont try to air-drum to this song. your limbs will fall off and your brain will explode

  • the lyrics on this one are pretty fantastic

  • Wear the grudge like a crown of negativity.-------- Calculate what we will or will not tolerate.------- Desperate to control all that and everything.------- Unable to forgive your scarlet lettermen.------- Wear your grudge like a crown. Desperate to control. Unable to forgive. And we're sinking deeper.
  • fans r idiots, like eh.. sheep. one straight line to the butcher

  • I would love to meet other people that love Tool as much as i do because where i live Im practically the only one im my town that loves them soo much musicwise and lyricwise they are beyond words ive ever spoken in my life...................

  • @ZooxYorkxRule i know dude im the only person i know that can sing along to the shit... im not saying that to make myself feel good either its true and it kinda sucks when you seem to be the only one enjoying it thouroghly

  • @ZooxYorkxRulez Same here man.

  • I always thought 46 and 2 was danney carreys best drum song but this is close. i listened to this song on lsd for the first time the other day and damn...

  • @blurpy11 Hooker With A Penis mate, everything in that song kicks so much ass.

  • @blurpy11 LSD + tool = WINNING!

  • This is not metal....this is the evolution of Progressive....

it sounds ancient & futurible...ask impressions about TOOL to Robert Fripp...

  • Tool is amazing and complex.Favorite band!!!!

  • it just crushes you.....may well be my fav tool track but there are so many ;-)......

  • @ericscollar especially the beggining riff comes in

  • There is one thumb down thats probably one person that decided to makeout with a shotgun instead of listening to tool wich is even more epic than that!

  • Fucking nice

  • 2 35 bets prt

  • I've never heard a hurricane before, but I expect it would sound like the final 20 seconds of this song.

  • @Reverend0Locrian lol dude im from new orleans and i been thru hurricane katrina and she didnt sound like that..but i wish it did lmao!!..'']['' {[]} {[]} ][_

  • yoshi loves danny carrey!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @evilyoshi90 Danny Carey loves Neal Peart.

  • Live in the moment. Put all your grudges from the past, and worries from the future, aside into a box, and just.... 7:58 LET GO!

  • note the precise lack of auto-tune and the abundance of musicians playing real instruments with their own hands very exceptionally.

  • 6:58. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWESOME!!!

  • Ever video I go to theres people arguing I'm just gonna post a normal comment THIS SONGS BADASS

  • Comment removed

  • my religion.

  • It just blows my mind that this just one song. So many changes you cant even keep up. :)

  • tool is good because they didn't just pump out albums, they took time on them

  • Why fuck do I see Mudvayne in the comments? They are an annoying band that plays the same shit for each album. They are the same alternative metal we hear on mainstream rock radio everyday that quickly gets old.

  • @Cuhfuhfuhd FUCK YOU

    Don't bag out mudvayne

    Stop with the negative ways

  • @gnome7in8overalls I just think their shit has gotten old.

  • @Cuhfuhfuhd thats a fair call, and i think their new stuff isnt much good imo, compared to their older stuff (LD50 and The End Of...)

they were good however, and to some people still are.

but on a more relavant point

tool are awesome on every album

  • @gnome7in8overalls Tool's stuff is still fresh. I mean the old Mudvayne was OK, but how long can you go with doing the same stuff? I like to see change, and fresh new material. It's kinda why I'm going out to buy another Tool album today lol

  • @Cuhfuhfuhd Meh, I agree with you for the most part, but you obviously haven't listened to LD50, which is by far their best album, and one of the best albums I've ever listened to, personally my favorite. They aren't as generic as most now even.

  • in my opinion, best tool song, other then danny carey's drum solo at the beginning of ticks and leeches

  • the outro to this song is perhaps the best thing iv ever heard, after the scream its just a wall of sound, you cant script something like this

  • i agree with tigragon, i mean, jeeze kick back, listen to some tool when you have a bad day man........ great song

  • I think he's saying "drag you down like it's chode" and not "drag you down like a stone." I even tried listening for stone. :p

  • @jarhead4214

    your obviously retarded.

  • @bruinsplaya4 In all fairness, it does sound like something maynard would say.

  • i think of tool songs more or art piece, there not structured like a normal song.love it

  • Imo this song is the absolute peak of the band. Amazing song writing and structure.

  • Saturn... for is rings... for the rings in your finger.. for your rings in your ear..

oh migthy god of the ooooldd ageeesss.....

  • dude, tool is so much more talented than any other metal band. instead of a bunch of double bass and 7 string guitars, they write amazing songs where the actual music is the forefront of the song, not how loud they can play or scream. and when danny carrey does use double bass, it stands out more and the contrast makes it alot cooler than any iron maiden tune where its double bass the whole time. these guys know how to write songs unlike anyone else.

  • you really picked a bad band to use as an example because iron maidens drummer doesnt use a double bass pedal. letalone the whole time.

its all personal taste. i love tool and many other bands but im not giving everyone else a hard time because they dont agree with me

  • @RyanTF2 That's a very healthy way of seeing it all - Wish more would do it like you, dude, cause I can't stand that you can't enjoy music you like without avoiding annoying comments.

  • @diazcamille and alot of people think its becuse they know how to use the drugs

  • @diazcamille mudvayne's first album is pretty intense instrumentally, vocally, and song wise...i THINK matt could out drum danny, but i KNOW ryan would out bass justin...i would bet my first born....no big deal tho, all great musicians

  • @mrd5653

    mudvayne....haha

  • @diazcamille

Nicko McBrain form Iron Maiden is known for NOT playing any double bass at all ;)

  • @diazcamille i agree with everything you say... except iron maiden's drummer nico mcbrain uses only ONE bass drum...inform yourself better man.

  • @hurtadopablo92 well, i wasnt bagging on iron maiden, i was just using a fast hair metal band as an example, which they are. youre right, i didnt know, but thats missing the point.

  • @diazcamille Meh, there are other metal bands that are at the same level as tool in talent dude. Few bands are as progressive and creative as Dream Theater or Between the Buried and Me.

  • @diazcamille thats not a fair statement. there are heaps of other prog metal bands around that use that similar style. karnivool, sleep parade, cog, butterfly effect....not saying any of them are better than tool, karnivool comes close in my opinion. but its not like tool are in some league of their own. theyre an amazing band who have amazing music, but they aren't alone.

  • @diazcamille their songs have meaning sometimes even double meanings if not tripple

this song is saying "Learn to Forgive"

  • @diazcamille Nicko from maiden doesnt use two pedals but yeah i love tool.

  • @diazcamille listen to a national acrobat by black sabbath. in my opinion it's as good of a song as lateralus.

  • @diazcamille Drop D isn't any better then 7 string guitars -.-

Doesn't matter what instruments you use, just be good at it.

  • @diazcamille Iron Maiden don't use double bass haha. I think you should say Slipknot.

  • @diazcamille TOOL is my favorite band but dont go hatin on iron maiden

  • @diazcamille i agree with everything you just said, apart from the shit about iron maiden, you lost my respect there sorry, iron maiden are great musicians, and dont use double bass that much

  • @diazcamille Iron Maiden don't use double bass lol. But I agree with your statement

  • @diazcamille I'm sorry but if you think this is the only good metal band you got serious fucking problems. Tool is a fucking awesome band but I know atleast a handfull of others that can compare.

  • @diazcamille you Got a point but i think Disturbed And Slipkot are way better musically like joey jordison and david Draiman great musicans corey taylor is one of th best singers in the world

    And

    R.I.P Paul gray

  • @CLandAWproductions

Wouldn't it depend on if you like nü metal or not. This is pure metal. Not nü metal like slipknot and disturbed.

  • @diazcamille fuck yea dude well said

  • @diazcamille To be fair to maiden, he only uses 1 bass drum.

  • the iron maiden drummer is famous for not using a double bass pedal you idiot. know your shit before slamming other bands

  • Comment removed

  • @diazcamille FUCKING IDIOT take each band on their own merits don't compare when they are not comparable !! ROCK THE FUCK ON !!! EACH to his/her own FUCKPIG !!!

  • when they go back?

  • What's with you guys? Arguing instead of agreeing that this is just great music most can appreciate? I was happy seeing all of these Tool fans, then read your comments and got disgusted

  • It's ok- that kinda thing happens all the time on the internet.

  • I know what you mean. Sometimes it's like watching bloated egos bumping into each other. Instead of connecting with the music emotionally, people feel the need to associate their intellect with something that they had nothing to do with.

  • @tigragon : agreed. Tool is amazing. Enjoy the music. Music is what brings people together. Period.

  • @tigragon why are you so narrow minded that you can't handle different points of view? i love that tool fans argue about meanings and get pissed off at each other - what boring sheep we would be if we didnt!

  • @anthonyergo Why do you care what I said 6months ago? I can handle different points of view. Just finding it annoying that people post insignificant things just to argue, similar to what you did

  • @tigragon Dont hold a grudge.. I used to and realized it was stupid now I just listen hopefully they can too

  • @tigragon nah i got disgustipated

  • why are people screaming adam jones when justin is just as important and prominent as adam?

  • @cenyan13 In agree, last time I checked there are four members in the band.

  • adam jones is just the brain behind it all its hes band hes artwork thats why but for sure everybody in tool is inportant

  • TOOL are composed of the most advanced and amazing musicians. They are just unsurpassed in their sound and energy

  • Pink Floyd.

  • They are amazing as well

  • you got to love Adam Jones' playing style

  • adam fucking jones..!!

  • you gotta love then entire composition and arrangement of every song

  • whaat kind of music...

    rock, psychedelic metal or what.

    this is ART

  • i have it under mental/spiritual enlightenment in my itunes

  • Maynard screams for 20 secs at the end! Crazy!

  • 6:31 till the end of the song = greatest thing to ever happen to rock.

    dannys drummer is fucking disgusting

  • man this isn't rock.. This is progressive metal

    :S

  • which is a type of rock....

I don't even classify them as metal - they are psychedelic hard-rock

  • psychedelic hard-rock is Pink Floyd. As a drumer and a musician i think i m in a stronger position than you are. THIS MATE IS CALLED PROGRESSIVE METAL.

  • it's spelled "drummer," and secondly, I have been drumming for 17 years now so you're argument means absolutely nothing. And also, capital letters do not help an argument.

My point was simply that Prog Metal is a type of Rock music... Rock includes a large variety of things. If this isn't rock, then slap my ass and call me Susan -- but it IS rock... However you want to classify it within that parameter is up to you... I think i'll go with "psychedelic progressive soul-fuck metallic rock"

  • ok sorry for my spelling it's just different opinions here.

If you mean that metal came from rock it's fine.

But you must understand progressive metal is a whole different genre than progressive rock. Metal means metal and rock means rock.

  • yup wiki

  • One of Maynard's best screams in this song.

  • @PanhandlingMisery no way possible to replicate live, to perfect in the studio, too long and you know that he had to have several takes to puch that hard for that long, one of the single best screams on recorded music history

  • That's why I said it is one of Maynard's best screams. I didn't say he could replicate it.

God, why does everyone on YouTube try to patronize anyone they can by regurgitating irrelevant information to make themselves appear intelligent?

  • it was not an attack, just a fucking comment you dumbass, this place is for exressing opinion, you comment sparked mine and I added, chill the fuck out
