What happened to him was losing his brother River to drugs. River was an amazing young actor. He was the "young Indiana Jones". Joaquin Phoenix will probably never act again. The Johnny Cash movie took a lot out of him, from what I have read he is pretty much done acting. To bad.

What took alot out of him is all the fucking drugs. River died due to drugs on the street in front of him and he was doing so damn good honoring River with how successful he was and keeping his shit together. He made one more movie after all this was said and done.

Its a documentary called "Im still here" where he basically does a TON of drugs and his trainwreck is recorded for everyone to see. Some call it fake, but its what he's gotten into. He's lost in drugs now sadly.

I think that if JC were still alive he would have been very well pleased with this man's performance. Joaquin has wonderful talent, after all his brother River Phoenix was magical in his acting skills. Both are very blessed at not only what they do but who they are as well. I believe he was very disappointed of not winning the Oscar for this performance. Golden Globe is great, but his partner, Reese, got the Oscar. So he felt like his performance had not been appreciated as I should have been. I guess that's why he quit acting. Well, the same happened to Leo DiCaprio in Titanic, but him, instead of quitting, he chose to try even harder and he finally succeeded to be regarded as an ACTOR and not a sex symbol.
