  • I've found that stepping on the tip of a shoe is often more effective than stepping on the whole foot. The latter is a bigger wedge, creating a wider angle, so an alert opponent may be able to jerk his foot out. Stepping on just the tip of the shoe, however, is just a sliver of a wedge which pins the foot with an acute angle. This means the opponent has less leverage to pull his foot away.
