I play it with the first note being an E, then going to G, D, Cadd9. After that, initial opening, then I use the Em7. I think it sounds better and closer to the way Cantrell plays it starting out like that
@imaking42 Actually if you do that you'll end up a whole step higher (not down a half step) because you're raising it a half step with the capo and another half step with it being in standard tuning. If you're trying to get it in Eb standard (down a half step) i've done a video on that as well.
@fishbellyrocks You sure man? Because according to my tuner, after I remove the capo, all of the strings are tuned down a half step..and Right Turn and Brother are both played in that tuning. Both sound spot on when I play them. I'll watch your video though, just to be sure.
@imaking42 Hmm...well, I haven't done all the tunes on that unplugged show, but I checked and Nutshell is tuned down 1/2 step. If you're tuning your guitar to standard tuning with the capo on the first fret (so when you remove it you'll be down a half-step) then it should work sorta well. You should study a lesson I did on how to tune down a half step to be more precise though; you can find that under "basic musicianship" on my real website (link in channel info) Hope that helps!
@longbow702 "pivot chord" is kind-of a term I made up...maybe "passing chord" would be better. Anyway, I get what you mean--there's several ways to get the riff done. Your way will sound almost identical and be a little easier, although there is a D chord there. Either way, cheers!
@robimr I thought about this one. I decided to do it in standard tuning because most viewers would be in it. It's easier to pick up the axe and jam along than it is to re-tune everything...
The upstroke on the D was the one thing that was causing me pain. Thank you!!!
