So, what is Alan Grayson's goal with health care reform? I must have missed it among his nonstop rant about how cool he thinks he is and how evil Republicans are (which was pretty much his entire speech). The Democrats plan for healthcare reform is to have people who work for a living (like me) to pay increased taxes for everyone else, including people who do things to put themselves at high risk for health problems, like smoking and doing drugs. Both in theory and because of the examples (medicaid and medicare) the government IS more responsible than companies and perfectly capable. Companies are driven by profit (ie to not cover as many payers as possible) while the government isnt. As for your claims they couldnt cover everyone, that's total bull. The government doesnt need to make a profit so it can provide the lowest rates feasible.

The insurance just adds unneeded overhead to all of it. Public option(nonprofit) would drive down cost for all of us. A much needed injection of cash into the system. Plus all the unseen waste of people going to ER that cost more. Plus the condition sometimes can be treated with only medication if caught early. Although the initial cost will be hard at first.

The real problem is that people are taking social ethics and trying to make them law. It is socially ethical to supply employees with healthcare when a CEO makes billions but it isn't a law. So, what is Alan Grayson's goal with health care reform? I must have missed it among his nonstop rant about how cool he thinks he is and how evil Republicans are (which was pretty much his entire speech). The Democrats plan for healthcare reform is to have people who work for a living (like me) to pay increased taxes for everyone else, including people who do things to put themselves at high risk for health problems, like smoking and doing drugs. Those people will leech off the taxpayers.

There is no way they could pay for everyone to get all the health care coverage they need without either A. cutting people's benefits or limiting the amount of care people can receive in a fiscal year, or B. raising taxes even higher than they already plan to to pay for extra treatments, which will put the economy even deeper in the hole. Neither one sounds good to me.

Both in theory and because of the examples (medicaid and medicare) the government IS more responsible than companies and perfectly capable. Companies are driven by profit (ie to not cover as many payers as possible) while the government isnt. As for your claims they couldnt cover everyone, that's total bull. The government doesnt need to make a profit so it can provide the lowest rates feasible.

The insurance just adds unneeded overhead to all of it. Public option(nonprofit) would drive down cost for all of us. A much needed injection of cash into the system. Plus all the unseen waste of people going to ER that cost more. Plus the condition sometimes can be treated with only medication if caught early. Although the initial cost will be hard at first.

The real problem is that people are taking social ethics and trying to make them law. It is socially ethical to supply employees with healthcare when a CEO makes billions but it isn't a law. I never said I wanted to "remove myself from society". Why is it always "all or nothing"? There are things the government should do and there are things government shouldn't. Why is it that people, usually liberal-minded people, believe the government is the answer to all their problems?
Want health care? Get a job and pay for it! Want a house. Earn it! It's not my job, or that of the government, to provide people with what they want/need.

Maybe we agree here. They should get a job. We should just force irresponsible employers to pay for wage and health care like they should. I'm a bit sick of the employers dumping the burden on the tax payers. I would be more then happy with this arrangement.

Well, we sort of agree. I'm all for earning what you have, but you loose me at forcing businesses to provide health care. No one should be forced to provide a commodity to their employees. Let the market sort it out.
There's a reason the call health insurance a "benefit" when you get a job. If you have the choice between two equal jobs and one has a better benefits package, which would you take? That's the free market.

Irresponsible private business dump it on the tax payer by not providing health care. When people do not have health care they have to go to ER. If the have no money they get medicaid (<tax payer).If they do not qualify medicaid then the doctors pass on the cost to the rest of us(higher insurance cost) . All cause a business didn't provide it to begin with(employer based health system). So the employer just passed his bill to everyone else. How is this fair?

I'm trying to understand your logic, but it's difficult. You blame an employer who gives a person a job. Exchanges money with the employee for their time/skills and then you complain about their compensation.
What's so wrong with the employee buying their own insurance? Why stop there, do you expect employers to pay for their food, shelter, clothing, etc.?
If health insurance is mandated by the government, the employers will simply take the cost out of employees compensation. Nothing is free.

Yes it is sad that some people don't have healthcare, but let's look at ALL the choices they have made in life, such as did they graduate or slack off and flunk, did they go to college or smoke weed instead, where they stupid and got pregnant at 14 because they have no self control, we all make choices some smart and some not but we make them. If an employer is not able to afford the cost of wage and health care then he should not live beyond his means. The employer can just do the job himself until the employer has enough capital that he can take on the responsibility of an employee.

There are so many government regulations and hidden taxes that employers have to pay it's sometimes easier NOT to hire people. Does that help them? How did you come to that conclusion? You say I'm irresponsible because I don't provide health insurance (a commodity) to employees. Would you rather I only hire 2 full-time people with health insurance than 10 without? That means 8 on the unemployment doles. How is that logical?
I also don't buy my employees cars, homes, or food. See, they earn a wage. They then can spend it on what they deem important. If they think a flat screen TV is more important than health insurance, that's their problem

Choose to save your money and buy things you need or choose to buy a flat screen TV (which I wish I had, but so far no one is fighting for Flat Screen TV Rights!).

You know what I think it is? I think it stems from no one telling their children "No". Think about it. If you can't afford something what do you do? Do you go without? No, you just put it on a credit card. Want a new car? Get a loan. Want a new iPod? Put it on a card.
We have an entire generation raised on getting everything they want when they want it. It scares me, too.
I don't classify myself as rich, but I'm sure some would. I have more than some, less than others, but I worked for it all.
