  • actualy sanmahi and hindu constitute 48 percent.

  • No not according to the last census. Hindus alone are 46% , Sanamahi are approx 11% of the population recorded as 'other' and will be a category in the next census 2011.

  • can you susbstantiate that? The only reliable data are from the last census and Hindus were recorded at 46% there was no category for Sanamahi, but 'others' made up apprx 11% of the population and most of them are likely to be Sanamahi. Therefore the Hindu-Sasnamahi population i.e. the Meitei population is approx 57% of the state.

  • I am sure you will find Manipuri women very interesting, good luck

  • there are obviously some differencies between people speaking Paite and Manipuri.

Can you say, that Paite people are all christians and Maniouri people are hindu ? .. but somehow I feel they are more chinese

    @monechee

are you an atheist then ?

  • Paite is tribe of Manipur and what we called the Manipuri language is the lingua franca of all the ethnic groups and tribes of Manipur and also its the first tongue of the majority Meetei/meitei people who constitute 70 % of the population this enclude approxomately 10% muslim. The majority meetei people except the muslim were converted to hinduism during the 18th century under a meetei king Pamheiba but because of caste system hinduism died in Manipur.

  • ok .. hmmh . thanks

is Paite a dialect ? ... or completly different to Meitei ?

.. and Paite people didnt convert to Hinduism ?

  • Paites are a tribe related to the Naga tribes, when christian missionaries entered the Kingdom of Manipur in the 19thc (Welsh Baptists) they did not have much success amongst the valley Hindus, however they were permitted to preach amongst the animist tribes of the Hills. Today the valley of Manipur is predominantly Hindu with Muslim and Sanamahi minorities while the Hills are predominantly Christian.

  • @kumarsa108 ...correction. paites are not related to the naga tribal group...they have more similarities with the mizo-kuki group and to be precise, paites are 99.9%christians, the remaining.1%still follow animistic beliefs.

  • Paites arent all 100% christian, but the vast majority are and if they are living in Manipur they are Manipuri people like everyone else in the state. Meitei are the people of the valley and they are Vaishnav Hindus as well as followers of Sanamahi and often syncretic.

  • I am a male and not an ethiest, I believe that there is got but I don't belong to any religious organization etc. I am a meetei and our ancestors migrated to Manipur from central Asia, Tibetan Platua and southern Mongolia. Our Language is Tibeto Burma not Chinese descent. One can easily conclude that Manipuris especially meeteis are descendent of central Asian, Tibetan etc. tribes from pre historic times.

  • Interesting Manipur !!!! I hope ....

  • Sorry but you arent very clued up either. Hindusim in various forms has had a long presence in Manipur well before the 18th century. It was in the 18th century that there was mass conversion to the Neo-vaishnav/Gaudiya Vaishnavism. Hindus are the largest population in Manipur and about 80% of the Meities are adherants. The remainder Meiteis are largley followers of ancient Sanamahi. Muslims are 8% and the hill tribes are nearly all converted to Christianity making up 35% of the population.

  • well ebudhoupakhangba is correct in that and kumarsa too that most of the people converted to either hinduism or christianity in recent time.

Actully I know my history and now I do not follow any established religion.I am going back to nature worship what my forefather did.

Hindu or christianity both are alien to us and people who want to spread those religion haved their own agenda.

  • Sanamahi is a great religion, but Hinduism is very diverse and Nature worship is an aspect found amongst many hindus across the world. Hinduism is based on natural law hence its real name Sanatan Dharm. Anyone can have an agenda for spreading religion including those who follow Sanamahi. You gave it away yourself by claiming other religions as alien. There was a time when Sanamahi too was alien. It can be argured that the choice of Sanamahi is a nationalist agenda for some.

  • What is Sanamahi? =) ahahaha I have no idea. We follow shamanism which had it roots in central asia. came with the migration from the tibetian platue.

  • Dude are you telling me you do not even know what the native religion of the Meiti people is? You cannot be Meiti then. Sana Mahi/Sanmahi is only the major deiti in Meiti religion. Shamanism is found all over the world it is too generic a term. The Shamanism of the Tibetan plateu or in Mongolia steppe is not the same form. if you dont want to be Hindu or Christian, dont be nobody is forcing you.

  • No I am not Meiti ,bt what are u?

  • @monechee Actually hindu is a arab or turkish word given to indian religion, it is santana dharma really in sanskrit, and nature worship is very much a part of it as well. Nature worship has been around in india, tibet, nepal, bhutan and manipur for centuries. India is just a political concept, ancient india did not have such divisions..that came later based on ignorance. Even the native americans worshipped nature.

  • @subroto81 Actually it is originally Ancient Persian (pre- Islamic) refering to the people of the area around Sindh. The Arabs also used it but applied it to people and religions of India at the same time.

  • @subroto81 Wrong Hind for all the people around and beyond the Indus river. British grouped all the vedic religions and called in Hindu.Hindu was like say Indian today. The word Hindu is the mispronunciation of the Sanskrit word Sindhu by the Persians, the historic local appellation for the Indus River in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent.

  • But yea the bottom line is I do not want to be Hindu or Christian . End of story.

  • being born and brought up on my enchanted and beloved motherland always makes u draw towards it all the time. sadly due to lack of oppurtunities we move out. and silly people n uninformed make a foolhearthy pledge about manipur is hindu. sorry dude, it's a kaleidoscope of religion and faith. for ur information hinduism came to manipur only in 18th century, forgetting ur own (monechee) history makes an unwanted understanding our history.

  • Wow, this place is lookin like heavan. My next holiday trip wil surely b Manipur.

  • wait a minute,i think sumthing which is very important is missing in this clip.where is the part of insurgency and terrrorism in manipur?after all manipur is the land of terrorism.

  • Actually it is refreshing not to see a video on Manipur terrosrism, which is not what the people are about.

  • Exquisitely beautiful!

A unique culture and a beautiful civilization with beautiful men and beautiful women. Strong and courageous and they form a very rich essence in the Indian Union which is an amalgam of various tribes and countries before 1947 to form a new powerful country called INDIA!

For the people with equality to all races, all tribes, all religions and all beliefs, rich and poor and all colours with no further distinction.

May peace exist in this INDIAN UNION!

  • I show some of the dances from manipur but i was not able to understand much about it.I am really impressed by some of the beautiful dance forms done by some of the colourful ladies. My question is why can't the manipuris perform some of the manipuri dances in many parts of india to know more about manipur. Please think about it very seriously......

  • Very nice to see Manipur in Youtube. I did not know our state Manipur is so resourceful. Indeed Manipur has the potential to overcome all the shortfalls. Thanks a lot for the video once again.

  • You don't have to look beyond the comments posted here to understand the dangers posed by anti-national forces. initmem and bck70 are imposters working for heavely funded foreign religious institutions working very hard to destroy India. Since, I have blown their mask they might appear under different pseudo-names pretending to be Indians.

  • Very impressive work & video clip with collectively & shortly explains about manipur !!!hope it will help outside world to know manipur in 7 min.

  • Indeed it is nice video clip. good work...! natural resourcefull state!

  • All this unrest in Manipur and most of North-east is due to Christian missionaries. People having western thinking is dangerous to the integrity of India. India has become more powerful, Government gives out Billions of of Rupees for North-East, where all that money goes? corrupt system need to be blamed for poor performance of the North-East. As far as AFSPA is concerned if things get better in North-East Army will go by itself.

  • I agree corruptions this Manipur unrest in a way does mirror the Tamil Nadu unrest of the early 80's when prominent groups wanted their own state. But if groups started splitting along religious and ethnic lines then we would have another scism in India. I hope we all work together for the betterment of all stamp out corruption and help each other.

  • Manipur is Hindu, so to assert that christian missionary are behind is very wrong. The problem is because of years of misgovernence of the Indian government.you should visit the place before you can comment.Lots of people are still pro independent and lot of money is just spend on Anti insurgency and not in development.

  • That is not true, the majority of meities are Hindu, but Meities are only 55% of the population. Virtually all the Hill tribes making up 1/3 of the population have been converted from iniginous religion to christianity.

  • What is your motive in posting your comment. The wickedness of heart make you say something like that. May God have mercy on you.

  • NOTE: the below Comment is for all those negative people!!!!

  • great work.....me just impress with the work and like to copy it but could not ......

  • All people of India should concentrate on economic developement, education, infrastructure, health care etc. We all should exploit the current economic opportunity. Once we all are economically well developed, we can take care of the political issues. After all who would have imagined that one day Scotland would be in a position to vote on its continuance with in UK. Or Quback as part of Canada.

  • with the degree of centralisation and large proportion of highly uneducated electorate and shady democracy, we the people of Manipur can'nt expect much from India.

  • My Grand mother was a maitai. Sad what was manipur yesterday and what it is today ?

  • We don't need to hate India to love Manipur. How can we develop with such parochial mindset? Today we know China and India are rising economic powers. This is not something to be lamented. We will be thrown into the dustbin of history if we cannot understand the changing times and the new opportunities available. Insurgency Inc. is the curse of the NE. It is nothing but extortion industry.

  • Rather than just commenting and blaming each other, get involved. Imagine ourselves going forward to solve the issues rather than keep crying over spilled milk. America was once a wild wild west country. It took almost 50 -100 years with lives lost and sacrificed to reach where they are. So whatever you are, wherever you are try to contribute something to your motherland and stop yelling at each other. It wont help much.

  • A catchy video.. like to appreciate you for your efforts.. it may sell well.. or a perfect score to be a Project for some University course... BUT the ground realities???? it is pain to even think abt that right?

  • Manipur is an occupied territory by India using all kinds proxy, misrepresentation, propaganda, corruption etc...

  • Manipur is India.

  • I am finding lots of hateful comments when i try to know about Manipur.I donna know what is hapening there but I feel something wrong..People should change. And if people is changed Manipur is changed.

  • haha

  • haha

  • intimem, you're obviously some sort of bigot. I am half Manipuri myself, and proudly Hindu/Indian-origin

  • Yeah.. thats cos ur dad's fuckin mayang.. and ur mom loves hairy & smelly body.. a thick desi accent, the smell of nasty ass curry. Fuckk off moron.. and fuck your hindu indian origin.

  • aww... poor little ignorant. Must be hard being so incredibly retarded that you can't even form coherant racism. Jesus, I knew racists were inherantly dumbasses but you seem a special kind of stupid.

It really burns you that Manipuris don't feel the way you do, doesn't it? It really puts some cold water on that racist flame of yours that Manipuris are by and far consider themselves as, and are just as proudly Indian as myself.

    Sux to be you. Hehe

  • don't care about him he's a pakistani

  • @rockoobama yup and a trouble maker, they always are on these videos.

  • We need to drop this Indian/Hindu component out of us. We should realize that we are south east asians and to be more specific Manipuri. Not INDIANs. But hey, like all my brothers and sisters I love Kangleipak more than anything. I hate the word MANIPUR, sounds fuckin Indian.

  • The word Manipur is OK, there is nothing wrong in it.

For example the word Mandarin for the major Chinese language is spanish.

  • Great video. I'd like to see more.

  • Great video. I'd love to see more.

  • Beautiful ? yes

    Pleasant ? yes

    Peaceful ? not very

Danger lurks in every pocket of Manipur - a small boy with an AK-47 perhaps or a group of Indian Army men that have no love for the land nor the people. Its like Vietnam,an easy way to describe this place is,its like Nam,people are of mongoloid descent and lots of rice fields.

Now you've seen the video and read my comment, come to the Jewel of the North East lol

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • i love manipur,my mother land..hats off to u..
