  • I love this guy's accent xD

    Thanks a lot dude

  • Your House is On Fire And You Still Making The Tutorial !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What is the emergency hooter on background ? :D But It´s Nice and heplful tutorial, Thank you!

  • excellent instruction! thank you!

  • thank you..it helps me a lot

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you my brother! I have been modeling an armored angel character for a game demo for a class and have been fighting with growing my leg out properly. My instructors are all about poly modeling and only briefly mentioned spline modeling. 5 minutes with this and I had my base leg and with the shape this creates it was very easy to pull the knee guard out after collapsing. Worked great for the arm as well and the sections break apart and convert to bones nicely as well.

  • thankyou soo much you should create a website with you vids and add a paypal setup for donations so you can make some money when people feel like giving back also use a site like addfly to mask you link soo when ever people click your website link u get paid THX again

  • wow, what an interesting approach to modeling! Very different than polygons and seems a little more simple. Almost like drawing instead of sculpting. Cheers!

  • ugh i cant stand nurbs

  • nice tut man

  • That was... pretty darn simple!

I didn't really try it just yet becouse Im watching a movie..

But I'll try this later on..

Yet again, looks very simple. iLike

  • This was extremely helpful, thanks.

  • Does the cross section modifier work in a way that allows me to start with a rectangle on the bottom and 45mm UP have a circle and then cross section and surface the two?

  • mind showing how to make a more detailed leg after doing this part? I've done the whole body but got stuck on adding details to the leg :/

  • How many years you dodeling in 3ds max Great vid

  • this is DEFINATELY something i needed to watch, i've always wondered how to model something as complicated as the human body, ive been doing guns for months now and its getting rather boring

  • this is pretty cool. if i was only making legs, it seems like making a u-loft would be simpler, but ill def try this way

  • How can I make the biped look close as possible to a real human?

  • Thx so much^^ now I can make a leg now and this technique can also apply to making an arm right?

  • You lost me at surface tools, when you say "surface tools", do u mean that i have to copy every single circle you've made there or is it a tool 3ds max already prepared??? if it is, then where is it? i don't really see it anywhere??

  • I guess I should have made it more clear....Surface Tools is a collection of modifiers, mainly "Cross Section" and "Surface" modifier. I show how to use both modifiers in this video. Yes you have to draw these 5 circles and position them the way I have in the beginning. Good Luck.

  • can you teach how to make an entire character like this? with a high poly count? thx?

  • wow!

  • Thank you for writing this one.

  • Excellent tutorial, well paced and clearly explained. I currently am working on modeling some denim jeans using garmnet maker and cloth modifier, i am just having trouble with uv mapping, was wondering if you could spare your ten cents in my prjects, many thanks in advance.

  • that's way too complicated for me, can you make a tutorial showing how to do all that without using all those steps? thanks in advance.

  • Bomb alarm!!!

  • can you tell me can you mask an object like in zbrush in 3ds max

  • in case of fire panic! haha backgriund you can here the noise. but hey great tutorial keep bringing more pleese

  • very good tutorial -

    well paced and explained ,

    great process and tips..

    many thanks

    do more!

  • Thank you alot! could you do one for arms or the torso please :D

  • Lol theres like a murder going on in the back ground

great tutoral, i'll play around with this style of modeling :)

  • What version of 3ds max is this? Coz it looks cooler =)

  • its a color scheme

    google: charcoal 3ds color scheme

  • It's a regular version, he's just using a dark UI !

  • i like you're UI!!! can it be shared?

  • Thank you.

  • whats with the hectic sirens half way through 0_o

  • oh my god! i fix this problem!! THank You!!!

  • awesome. thank you so much for posting this tutorial!

  • Very nice! That was a quick and easy method of creation. I really should poke around more often in that Modifier list.....lots of cool things in there.

  • great vid but you will not see us next time WE will hear you next time lol

  • make the whole body and head....:))

  • which verison of 3d studio max do you use?

  • very cool

  • Thanks for post this video..it has save me from a hurry. This tutorial works, I didn't have any problem with the gizmo. byesss

  • I have a serious problem..my transform gizmo doesn't show up...the thing that when you hit "Move" the y and x axis mover thing pops up...that is gone, I really can't stand it being gone, so please anyone help me..I've already hit x to try to have it show...help please!

  • Go to Views-Show Transform Gizmo

  • I tried that..it's got a check mark beside "Show Transform gizmo"

  • If that's on and you've tried hitting 'x' on the keyboard then it should appear unless you don't have any object selected or the move tool selected. If all is checked, then you might need to delete your 3dsmax.ini file and that should fix it.

  • I fixed it..my gizmos were turned off for some reason

  • I have a serious problem..my transform gizmo doesn't show up...the thing that when you hit "Move" the y and x axis mover thing pops up...that is gone, I really can't stand it being gone, so please anyone help me..I've already hit x to try to have it show...help please!

  • im at the step where you add another modifier >edit spline but when i try to cick on the lines, nothing happens.

  • nvm, i must have missed the step where you have to click refine

  • hey, im stuck again, when i add the surface modifier, it only fills in the circles, not the leg.

  • ohhh...i know what i did wrong, i had more than 4 segments...

  • I am trying to follow this tutorial, but every time I try to apply the surface modifier, the leg disappears! I think it may be to do with the circles of the leg not being attached to the vertical lines created by the cross section. I have followed the tutorial exactly - what could I have done wrong? Cheers

  • If the circles are not attached or have more than 4 segments, you don't get any surface. Make sure to create one circle and then make copies of it in Z axis.

  • Thanx man ! This is very straight forward, fast and exactly what I was looking for :D

Luckily our body is pretty much shaped like a cylinder, so I'll try and use this technique on other body parts ^^

  • ah ok cheers will get started, cant wait.

  • looks so easy and you have explained it excellently. your head modeling tutorials were great and easy to follow. so i thank you for your time to do these tutorials and look forward to future tuts.

just a quick question i notice your using 3d max 8 or 9 i think, not sure but i have version 7, so will this still work with my version? oh and im missing the tutorials that came with 3d max 7, would you recommend any other tuts before starting yours?

  • Yeah it works in 7 also. I'm glad you liked my videos, I'll do more in future as time allows. You should really comfirtable with the basics before doing modeling tutorials. The out of box tutorials should be on your disc and you might need to copy them manually.
