This is amazing singing! Such elegance of phrasing, such easy, shining top notes! This is singing of the highest order, worthy of comparison to Leontyne Price. And she even trills!

Eileen Farrell had a very large voice. She sang quite a bit of Wagner with Leonard Bernstein. I particularly love the color of her voice and her artistic versatility. Some of her recordings of popular material are as good as anyone, even Ella Fitzgerald!

With a voice this large you would not expect such freedom on top nor such "lilt" in all her melody. Such a wonderful artist, the likes of which I have not seen since Madame Price retired in the 80s. The rest have been utter disappointments, from Millo to Voight, to Susan whatsherface, just fizzled out and did not grow with their music.

@gustopheles It was enormous. When Corelli was scheduled to sing with her for the first time he was utterly shocked by the sheer size of her voice.

Farrell could (and did) sing almost anything with great beauty and great authority. Her Verdi was exemplary. If she had wanted to make a career of Verdi, she would be remembered alongside Leontyne Price as definitive in her roles.
