Built in scotland in 1905 as a luxury liner

Used by New Zeland in WW1 as a hospital ship

Washed up on fraser island in 1935 and used for bomber practace in WW2

This ship was quite a grand one, she was sold for scrap and being towed to japan (correct me if i'm wrong) tow lines broke she beached sat there for a few years then used by the RAAF for bomb runs. it is on frazer island (spelt wrong I know) There is a post board with information on it. I was there in 2003 last mainly used for 4x4 off road trips and sight seeing.

either because it's to large to be salvged or even the cost of repairs would be finacialy unfesiable or even if they did manage to recover the ship for scrap it's value would be less than for salavage repair or towing.

If a ship sinks or is wrecked in a shipping lane or port etc then by law it has to be recovered or destroyed to the point where she no longer poses a hazard to other shipping.

Something like this or SS America / American Star is not posing a threat to other shipping so if it's not recovered then it's just left there to rust.
