In the depression the govt only did things that prolonged the problem. They failed to admit that the Fed credit expansion caused the bubble of the 1920s which resulted in the correction that occurred in the 30s. The natl recovery act made it worse and longer, & were doing it again.
The market is the corrective mechanism & the market is trying to purge the problem, but the govt wont let it work. Propping up AIG, Citi, GM or Chrysler is the problem, the market says they need to go away.

The market GM & Chrysler operated in was a fantasy. The market for vehicles was artificial & financed by extraction of (false) equity in homes, not from savings. When vehicle sales dried up last year, the fallacy of the environment was exposed.
Businesses that can't cope with the new market aren't viable. The new environment reflects consumer demands & is the new reality. Playing the "I'm a victim" card in this case means nothing. Change with the times or declare bankruptcy and move on.

Right now we are in a recession. However there is no evidence to indicate going into a full depression.

State sovereignty is the only thing that can stop this mess. The states need to say no and the people need to back up their states. The federal government has let is alligator mouth overload its hummingbird ass.
