"Don't ask me what tornado does, I'm not a scientist." I might not be a scientist either, but I think I'm nerd enough to answer that question. In this situation, trying to freeze a tornado would more likely make it worse, or not effect it at all because it looks like it is warm outside. I say it's warm because I don't see any white at all, and if it moderate temperature it'd be impossible for a tornado to occur. One last thing, there were no tornadoes, they were on water so they are hurricanes.

Actually, a tornado is hot and cold air trying to affect eachother, making a tornado hot or cold would make it smaller as the other side would become less. So it's actually a bit smart for superman to freeze a tornado. In super man returns, the tornado's are too big to just freeze, he has to freeze then heat them up rapidly.
