Right what I used was a program called FSRecorder, look it up on google, its a brilliant program and theres lots of tutorials for it out there. Check it out :)
I'm pretty sure i have seen formations like this before apart from all teh aircraft was in affect glued to geather as one huge plane so all you had to do was fly normally and it looks like a real formation job.
