gotta say die hard 3 is my absolute favorite, good plot, a villan that is intelegent (doesn't blow away his plot during the capture of McClaine) and kick arse, 3 all time great actors (jeremy irons, bruce willis and samual l jackson). die hard 1 was awesome when i saw it, but die hard 3 just tops it. wish number 2 & 4 were as good.

I like Die Hard and Die Hard: With A Vengeance. 2 and 4 were not even that good, in my opinion. 2 suffered from the lack of a really menacing villain played by a good actor (William Sadler was adequate, and Franco Nero didn't even get much screen time), and 4 suffered from the PG-13 rating, lack of a plot like 1 and 3 and lack of a strong villain.

@metalgearhead99 Part 4 was okay, and it was a lot of fun to see John McClane back. It also held true to form of the series that it was all about the money and not the ideology. But then came Justin Long as the inevitable sidekick for the young audiences who don't no John McClane but chuckle at the idea of the Mac-guy as a hacker. And Timothy 'look at my evil face' Olyphant who must have paid to be in this movie. He sucks as an actor and he sucks even worse as a bad guy.

@metalgearhead99 I think I like them equally much. They both have their share of faults, but a lot of the good stuff to make up for it. While the casting for Die Hard 2 was better, Die Hard 4 felt more like a real Die Hard movie. They both had credible yet larger-than-life plots which makes them good action movies, and John 'Yippee-ki-yay' McClane makes the movies work.

@Yuregenu I think John McClane may be one of the best characters ever in film. He's normal and relates to real people which is why I believe we root for him, and I can't see anyone but Bruce Willis playing him. It's true that these movies have larger-than-life plots, especially this Die Hard. The way that Simon and his men took over the bank looked brilliant, and this marching theme that played in the background really seemed to enhance that whole scene.

I can't understand the hate for part 2, I love it. Maybe not the most realistic flick in the world, or maybe it's not as good as the first film, but hell, that's like saying Friday the 13 part 8 is better that the first Friday the 13! It was solid, action entertainment.
