I gotta agree with many of the previous posts. I was also diagnosed with aspergers, but it hasn't really impacted my life. It doesn't affect intelligence nor speech, but supposedly some social skills may be affected. Frankly, the kid sounds like a little putz, and the mom shouldn't lay the blame on this vague condition, but instead the raise the little crayon-eater to cut the bullshit.

Don't lump the rest of us in with this little dolt. It's hard enough for us to get laid as it is.

Also more often than not you will get cases such as this example, where the kid is a massive distraction to the rest of the children and is impairing the rest of their ability to learn because he's bothering everyone. For me, potential (and therefore intelligence) is all-important. If a sufferer from Aspergers has potential (and plenty do), they are not retards. They can learn, or be trained, to recognise their own problems and flaws and avoid becoming a burden on society. Retards can't be educated in that way because they have less intelligence.

It's easy to condemn the teacher, but I wonder what this kid finally did to push her in to doing something like this? I work with kids too, and there have been times when the frustration isn't so much about what they've done to themselves, but what they've screwed up for the other, better behaved kids in the rest of the group. But Asperger's falls under the broader Autism definition, i.e. it's part of ASD. Thing is, some medical experts aren't even convinced Asperger's really exists and blame it on nurture rather than nature. The question has to be asked, is it a genuine condition or a symptom of parents who love their kids so much that they refuse to ever tell them 'NO' for anything?

She insisted that her kid (who clearly has special needs) be taught alongside kids that don't, because that is almost never going to work. If this is the case, then eff it, she invited not only her own embarassment but her child's as well, and they should just take the kid and put him into foster care.
