This was me as a child. I have a family who don't care. I thought myself everything, even went to the library by myself everyday when I was 5 years old. I remember seeing this when I was 7 thinking "There are others like me, I'm not so alone"
@sharondoyle37 Oh my god what selfish parents If I was there I will MAKE them look at you and this:"You've got a child who needs you more" *slaps them* "NOW BE PARENTS YOU IMMATURE ADULTS!"
Omfg!I swear my dad kinda acted like her father when I was younger.he was mean and I got on to him by yelling at him that's not right sometimes.he was playing games towards us and my mother.
I remember thinking "poor Matilda for having such horrible parents" when I was young. Now, rewatching Matilda, I'm thinking "her father's freaking Danny Devito!!"
@bdfsyuew Your right I think those kids shoul raiase themselves. Rea parenting books and just become their own parents they'd probably come out better than having those parents.
@bdfsyuew My mother didn't want to see this movie because she remembered a different Matilda, but we watched it and the next day she said she could relate to her because she was the same way growing up, her parents didn't like her, never knew her, she was the smart one, always loved to read, they hated that, etc. they were just for having a good time and her mother especially hated anything that required thinking, and today her mind has turned to mush.
2:24 - 2:48 UGH. Why does Matilda get to make the best looking and probably best tasting pancakes, and all I can make is disgusting peices of ripped nastyness ;(
This was me when I was little. Other than the horrible family part of course, but I always read books and went to the library (and still do). It makes me so sad to think how children are now growing up with those stupid iPads... Whatever happened to just going to the library and enjoying real books?
@skittles4me1 I sooo agree with you. When I was little I would always read and was enchanted by my grandpa library. I still read a lot and making my own personal library, it's a joy seeing all those books on the shelves, and I'm lucky enough to live right next the public library! :) I think that these places have something...fascinating, and it's a shame children today are losting all kinds of imagination.
Matilda is like a cross between Harry Potter and Jean Grey, I mean Matilda has Telekinesis and at the same time shit guardians with a relative who is at about the same age, treating her like shit then being the protective big brother (in Harry's case both he and Dudley never get along till the end)
i just love this film sooooh much. I just made my students watch this today as we celebrate book week--hoping that they will be inspired by the film and realize that it is fun to read and they would READ with their hearts---happy reading class!
I like this film - it was one of my favourites as a kid - but I think they could have done such a better job on it! I long to see ''Matilda'' remade with all English actors, and actually set in England, to more closely follow the book.
@SpookMouse When I told my mom about this movie, she didn't want to see it because she was thinking of an older movie with another kind of Matilda, annoying lady with a BIG hat, then I got her to watch it and the next day she said how much she could relate to it because she always felt the same way, she never belonged with her family, was just like Matilda and loved to read and learn and nobody appreciated her either.
While this doesn't make them good parents, at least they didn't throw their baby in the dumpster like some surprisingly TRUE stories out there. People amaze me.
The sad part is that this is the case for a lot of young girls around the world. They are neglected and left to die because they aren't as valued as boys :(
When you consider the fact that her parents would have had teachers like Miss Trunchbull when they were kids,it's obvious that they are addicted to the TV because it helps them to put it behind them.
My favourite when i was kid !! And NOW, its the favourite of my nephews and nieces !! lol.. Everyday, everyhour = Matilda (which ive recorded on stereo) XD .. When Matilda ends, they rew it, and replay.. OMG.. Ive learnt all the text/ words by heart (in french) !!! XD XD
Question: when the fat boy were throwing marshmellows at her was he calling her dick face or dip face??? ive never seen the dvd for this so i dont know the age rateings lol im guessing it's a 12 due to the content :)
