@Conde61 i'm afraid it can hurt to believe that there is a god, parents have because of that kinds of belief refused treatment for simple things like diabetes for their children, and instead resorted to prayer to help their children.

you can't claim that's a good thing nor a moral thing, it's bad, and it hurt, both the child (which died), the parents (they lost a child), the people around them (for feeling helpless to stop stupidity in action)

To believe in God and that He gives us the strength is understandable. If it helps us achieve great things it is good. Being a freethinker(not an atheist) I have noticed, most Christians/Muslims/Buddhists/T­aoists would not do what this father did for his son. The reason is in the person himself, the father, not God.

@brtower256 How can someone say so blatantly that we are God's image. Remember, the Bible is still a book written and printed by humans, so is the al-Quran, the Buddhist scriptures. Though these books tell of and teach good, i don't understand why there is a need for religion to accept God as God. How do we know God's form? Do we know if God has emotions? I understand to relate this story to stories that depict the love of God, but please stop relating everything good to God, we can do good too.

Thanks to sin the good traits are often overpowered by our carnal mind. Each and everyone of us has the capability to show great affection, do something today, help someone in need, go to the animal shelter. For every visit to a temple/church/mosque, for every donation to monks/priests, spare some change for the people that need it most. But most of all, spare some love.

Unless it is the materialization of God's love through this man onto one of his children, then it is not an example from the father, it IS the love of God. God does love his children, i'd take that, but not everything on earth that is love to do with God nor evil to do with Satan. Are we human's mere physical shells for God or Satan to play with? Or are we people, able to change and learn to love instead of hate.

I have heard of Dick and Ricky before. My gym teacher is high school was a big time runner and read about them in a magazine. He created a whole running program named after them because they were such an inspiration. It was based on the training that the father went through.
