This should be the world's anthem. I think it is speaking of the frendships between all the members given the tensions they must have been going through. Perfect, emotional.
Misunderstandings are inevitable between friends and lovers. They must be worked out if relationships are to continue. Are we speaking of the friendship between Agnetha and Frida? Is it the rapport between ABBA and their fans? Most likely, it is the longstanding friendship between Benny and Bjorn. Benny Andersson had the friendliest grin in the music business. Bjorn reminded me of Jimmy Carter, America's president at the time. This song is a hymn.
I have often wondered where this longer clip of the song comes from? It shows them entering the stage with the ABBA logo flashing and a longer applause after the song's finished than is in seen on any official releases featuring this song.
Maybe they will find even more unseen live fottage that's been edited together so that we can create a proper full length live concert. After all, who knew that Japanese footage existed until last year?

This is one of those pop songs that can move shivers up your spine. With the album version at the end when that majestic bridge comes with the instrumentation is like magic. Abba was not just a silly pop band but a diverse band who experimented with pop, disco, classical, rock and musical style. I love their most unknown songs best: this, I´ve been Waiting For You, Slipping Through My Fingers, Gonna Sing You My Love Song, My Love My Life, Arrival... Top 5 bands ever.
@royalsteven You forgott the wonderful Like an angel passing through, the have done a simply complete song, it has it all. The norwegian superstar Sissel Kyrkjebö has done a magical cover, Madonna also, and a few more, but that's the one somg I want to be played at my funeral. Lovely, really.
@royalsteven I Totaly agree with you buddy on this.. They were the Best when I was young.I'm 48 yrs old now,and I still get shivers on my body, when I listern to this song... Abba songs will never die at all. Just look at Elvis Presley songs, they're still going strong ,just like with Boney M,Bee Gee and many more from those days :) This is what you call MUSIC :)

If not an ABBA tour, how about an ABBA concert? If not a concert, how about a special performance of this one song? Pleaseeeee... Frida, Benny, Björn and Agnetha... we're begging you.
meisisequus, I disagree. If ABBA are rich, it is because they WORKED themselves up the success ladder. Why deny them credit ? They are TALENT personified. Each member of this band contributed to its success.
denny5545, thanks for that info, I didn't know ABBA were THAT good. It just shows you, one cannot put a price on QUALITY. I dedicate this song to Gary. RIP, friend.
Who actually wrote or originally sung this song? I always associated it with Philomena Begley etc. Can't believe I've stumbled across this clip of Abba singing it ....
@Aintgotmine It was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and included on ABBA's album, Super Trouper (1980). With the exception of one song, ABBA recorded only original material written by themselves.
@cornellcrawford That is not entirely true. For some of the first biggest hits, their manager Stig is listed as co-writer. They got also help from Neil Sedaka to make Ring Ring. Starting from lp Voulez Vous, they bought also arrangenment for their songs.
@wieslawl59 well he probably means that they recorded only one existing song..in fact consisting of three old American folk songs.. and what do you mean that they later bought the arrangement?? if you mean that they had a professional arranger, then it´s ok..they of course couldn´t arrange all the freakin strings themselves.. every group that ever recorded at least a little bit more complicated music, needed an arranger..including the Beatles.
@wieslawl59 Stig only assisted with lyrics, often only contributing a song title. Similarly, Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody just assisted with the translation into English of the Swedish lyrics for Ring Ring. It was not their "song", just their words. As far as using an arranger to add some strings to their songs, that is something most acts do. Especially for live performances. You don't think there are just four members of the group, do you? There were many, and they all worked together.
I think I may just LOVE this song the most...which is quite hard to say, because I love them ALL so much that I've never been able to pic one favorite. But every time I hear this song I'm reminded of my old friends mostly from my youth , and the 70's. ABBA was such a great band. "Thank You For The Music" the songs I'm singing and the true joy they bring me. I'll always carry them in my heart.
@grimTales1 I completely agree. Yet, I fear I would probably be useless at work or with family for many days. The power of such a happening would overwhelm me.
Many will breakdown sobbing - 'cause it's too much. Cheers my friend!
When the album ABBA released, I had the opportunity to see the video. The song seemed almost like a national anthem. It's beautiful. They are simply ... ABBA: o)
I'm glad that Agnetha and Bjorn decided to put this song back in the footage in the 1979 American/UK tour, because just this awesome some, that has so much meaning is worth buying the DVD show.
Yes migge1975, even one song from this legendary outfit would suffice. Speaking of legends, Neil Diamond will be visiting my home country South Africa next year April. This man deserves a HUGE reception. I am sure he will receive just that - we LOVE him !!
A song with all in it - faith, hope, love. Beautiful. It touches me into the deep of my heart. I could cry. It sounds like a lullaby to ABBA's concert career. The hidden message is: "We've had a good time together, it's over, but don't be too sad. Maybe we'll meet some day again." This was their last worldtour. But we will listen to their music on and on - the way old friends do...
This song ALWAYS give me goosebumps-It happens to be my grandpa's fav ABBA song and one of my favorites coz every song of theirs happens to be my favorite..Weren't they just one of the best things which could happen to Music???
Wish they made a comeback coz these days Music is just 'CRAP'!!!:((
Oh to have been there - it is great that recognition of ABBA is growing again - much underrated at their time - if only a reunion for those who were their greatest fans but too young to see when they were together.
This is a magnificent anthem and far too unknown. More than that it's a wonderful showcase for Agnetha's and Frida's exceptional voices. Most people are unaware of their tremendous range. Many of ABBA's songs are not easy to sing, this one most of all. Very few singers can match this range.
they were all successful in their own right. in my opinion ther is not better than the other istill follow them individually today take a listen to the solo stuff after abba it is great.
I LOVE this song. Wouldn't it be nice to hear Frida & Agnetha do a duet now??! If ABBA can't reunite...can we at least hope for those harmomies from the girls!
This band, Swedish by origin, sang Spanish-styled music. As if that was not original enough, they went on to sing a song with a French title. Not to forget they revolutionized the music industry, but NEVER compromised their vocal talent. Guns 'n Roses did not add something extra to their music genre. They were good, but not special, like Queen, The Beatles, Bee Gees, and of course, ABBA.
Reply to m2mbroken : Mmm, yeah right. Whatever you say. First of all, go for English lessons. Secondly, kindly tell us all where bonehead Axel Rose is TODAY in music ? ABBA, Queen, U2, Beatles, ' Stones, and Bread. All afore-mentioned were bands of quality. Bon Jovi and Guns 'n Roses are/were good, but not quite in the same league, and that, is that.
Benny and Bjorn are musicians and songwriters of genius...together with Agnetha and Frida, they made music that has,and will endure, for a long long time.Fantastic band.
I was once told that the ABBA members were offered one billion Dollars to make a comeback - the offer was turned down. THAT is a mark of a legendary band. Honestly, ABBA would EAT today's bands, most having to rely on Idols competitions and an idiot youth for "recognition". Ever heard of "talent" ?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
lol.....man, soft doesn,t mean music either!!!,
abba doesnt even feature in "100 bands dat shaped modern music", you r comparin dem wid the rolling stones.....!! man go die sumwhere!, learn 2 diff btwn music n shit!
.......well ill giv u a hint!........your "Gods!" sing shit!!!
ABBA is timeless music and is played almost everywhere today..everybody knows them, so they surely shaped modern music..and this "list of 100 bands" of yours is fairly irrelevant then..I am sure they´re more played than Guns or Stones hahaha..
@cytotoxix It was 100 Million to take over the spot when Michael Jackson diet at 02 Arena. They turned it down. They say that no amount of money will ever replace MJ.
@cytotoxix : That number may be true or false, but it was a huge sum that they were offered - but they turned it down, as it would have required 100 shows around the world, a new album and a collection album. Björn said that it would have taken 10 years away from their lives, had they said yes. Maybe just one song... somewhere... again... pretty please?
Frida and Benny are fantastic with their arms around each other, but so are Aggie and Bjorn, because they are singing directly to the audience from their individual selves
Could you imagine, just dream, of the 4 of them getting on stage in Hyde Park, U.K., in 1 week, 30 years to the day after the '79 tour opened, and singing this song to the audience as a Grand Finale? I think Abba fans would make a pilgrammage from all over the world to see it, hear it, experience it, if they could do it.
Graet amazing group i was in the concert many years agon in Bremen but its so wonderful thanks for all these beautiful songs Benny the Musican and Björn the Brain and to the amazing Abba Girls
This is me and my partners' "Old Lang Syne"! All of our friends have come to accept this tradition. It's cleansing, forgiving, hopeful, and pulls us all closer together. Love to these beautiful people who gave us so much joy> Kenny
Lovely to revisit this posting. Among the Top Ten bands of all time : The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, Bee Gees, U2, Dire Straits, and, ABBA. The latter redefined music, while Queen's music was the most varied. From a Queen AND ABBA fan.
As we are at the 1 year anniversary of the release of Mamma Mia, one may wonder why this song was not in the movie, it would have made a grand finale with it being sung a duet by Streep and Brosnan on the patio at sunset (assuming Pierce could sing properly).
Iam so sorry, but they were all lost when my house burned to the foundation in 1980. God, I had one of me and Bjorn And Agnetha, just before they were married with there arms around me. Damned fire.
I agree with Stockguru 61. I am lucky enough to have seen ABBA 4 different times. I am 60 years old and have heard most music in this genre.
ABBA is simply the very best of the very best. I listen to a backdrop of their music every day around my house. Always hear something a little different each time.
Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anni-Frid, thank you for all the joy, hope, inspiration, and peace you have given us. May God Bless you forever!!!
Curiously enough there has been so many Scottish people who have recorded this song.....It could be an Old Scottish Folk song....O.K.I know they wrote it,but Joan Baez's interest in Scottish music influenced some Dylan songs.............

For me it simply takes me back to a time when music was music, lyrics were lyrics and we all found different meanings to them all.

Frida and Agnetha were both stunning WOW

@adambell1975 words right out of my mouth.:D they are an unstoppable amazing force.

I was once told that the ABBA members were offered one billion Dollars to make a comeback - the offer was turned down. THAT is a mark of a legendary band. Honestly, ABBA would EAT today's bands, most having to rely on Idols competitions and an idiot youth for "recognition". Ever heard of "talent" ?

lol.....man, soft doesn,t mean music either!!!,
abba doesnt even feature in "100 bands dat shaped modern music", you r comparin dem wid the rolling stones.....!! man go die sumwhere!, learn 2 diff btwn music n shit!
.......well ill giv u a hint!........your "Gods!" sing shit!!!
m2mbroken 2 years ago
ABBA is timeless music and is played almost everywhere today..everybody knows them, so they surely shaped modern music..and this "list of 100 bands" of yours is fairly irrelevant then..I am sure they´re more played than Guns or Stones hahaha..
bourlivak88 2 years ago 5
This comment has received too many negative votes show
rolling stone magazine(not da band), is not irrelevant rmbr,
the music industry.....respects it,
u like it or not abba is not included n dats a fact!!
stop comparin stones n abba,
abba might be a household name,
but stones are more than that they are music!!!
m2mbroken 2 years ago
I dont compare them..I know ABBA are far better than some Stones : D

@cytotoxix It's true, they were offered but they have no intention what so ever to reunion
neta5555 1 year ago
@cytotoxix It was 100 Million to take over the spot when Michael Jackson diet at 02 Arena. They turned it down. They say that no amount of money will ever replace MJ.
JRybka 1 year ago
@cytotoxix : That number may be true or false, but it was a huge sum that they were offered - but they turned it down, as it would have required 100 shows around the world, a new album and a collection album. Björn said that it would have taken 10 years away from their lives, had they said yes. Maybe just one song... somewhere... again... pretty please?
migge1975 1 year ago
@cytotoxix - AND they upped the offer to 2billion, and STILL they refused......

Such a lovely, lovely song and very emotional - so sweet when you see Frida with her arm around Benny.

AbbaWatcher 2 years ago
Can't imaging Pierce singing it properly..He's a great actor but singing is not is thing :-(

Yes indeed. I saw ABBA Live in Sydney Australia in 1977 and they were absolutely awesome. Its something i have never forgot and never will.
Anyone who says ABBA couldnt sing live obviously has never seen them in concert live.
I still listen to ABBA's brilliant music all these years later almost every day as well, its timeless and just seems to get better all the time.

Curiously enough there has been so many Scottish people who have recorded this song.....It could be an Old Scottish Folk song....O.K.I know they wrote it,but Joan Baez's interest in Scottish music influenced some Dylan songs.............

AMO ABBA forever!
