@rotterdamgifts Hey, Piazzolla gave that name to his music ironically, because old school tango folks didn't wanted to acknowledge Piazolla's music. In reality this is tango, "nuevo tango", as Piazzolla named it later, and here in Argentina a lot of dancers dance to this. Cheers
stop criticizing.. music can be played at any beat! Take some joint n listen to the melody n u will soon see yrself flying high in the air looking down at earth!
Very beautiful, thanks for posting! Another version that is worth listening to is Evgeny Suvorkin in Leiden; also very good. You can find him on YouTube when searching at:
this isn't LIBETANGO BY PIAZZOLLA.......sounds so slow & there are no accents.....real Libertango musy be aggressive, with lot's of accents, ......sorry, but didn't like it.:(......!
Very beautiful sound, but a tango is supposed to be more angular music. This interpretation sounds too smooth, there's no fiery spark to it. Still beautiful nonetheless
Con todo el respeto, creo que es una version muy interesante. Pero deberia ser un poquito mas rapido. Le falta pasion, le falta tango... Imagino a dos bailarines que se sentirian muy incomodos con este tempo y con este caracter.
For those of you who like a taste of the classical.....this tango, Libertango is very welled performed by the Korean Symphony ......i really loved it. Tango can be played in different styles as many other musical genres......Tango is a very passionate music, but in this way.....was very well mastered....i really liked it.
i don't understand why there're so many negative comments lol. it's just less a different way to perform this song. you shouldn't just interprete this song in one perspective lol
I don't care what others say, I really like this interpretation of Libertango. They give it a new feel to it. It is not bad, it is just different. Everyone to their own taste. Thank you for the upload. :)
@johannislots That's wat music is about, putting your very own feel to it. So this actually is great. If everyone would just play music as it was written, then music would not be what is is now.
The best thing in music is precisely the fact, that you can not only PLAY it, but PLAY WITH it... create again what u think should stay the same...this performance is the same Piazzolla's libertango, but it´s so different at the same time... new performance, new feelings...just awesome!!!!
wow! this is an abosolutely beautiful interpretation of this piece. it's not what i'm used to hearing from this piece but i loved this, espeically the ending. fantastic!.
To the people that say the amatuars can't tell musicians how to do their job, thats easy for us to say as musicians. But when you play for the masses, you have to go by what they say. If they say, "you suck, you don't know what you're doing" you have to play it differntly. IHMO, at least.
depends on the music and the crowd. Music like this doesn't usually doesn't attract the "Linkin Park crowd" as it were. And audiences who attend concerts like these aren't the type to yell boo. They would find a performance perhaps lacking, or the arrangement to be poor.
But your argument is true, pro musicians play for mostly non-musicians, and it is their tastes and needs (musically) that need to be entertained.
Where's the fire? !!! .... this sounds very beautiful, but it's supposed to be a very passionate and aggressive piece. I wanted to hear the violins bleed. This sounds way too classical. (still beautiful though)
I know ..... I happen to be a music composer and arranger - so I come from a classical training. This is supposed to be a "Tango" if you didn't know. It's an argentinian type of music from "Buenos Aires" which is supposed to be incredibly aggressive. It's a more modern type of style ... not classical at all. Good luck with your next critique.
It's not like changes in interpretation are forbidden, WildStarvingWolf. It's one thing to dislike the interpretation, but it shouldn't be fettered to any canon with people saying how it "should" be played. I'm sure they're aware that it's normally a fast, aggressive song, they've just chosen to do it differently.
@WildStarvingWolf i want about 100 violins playing at the same time with passion and aggression. Unfortunately i can't find any for this piece !! i've been looking everywhere for about an hour now !!
@WildStarvingWolf I think the fire is started by the celestial sounding violins around 1:45, then gets out of control and grows as the orchestra takes its louder and louder until they reach 2:16. From there its just passion suddenly met by breath carried out by the clarinets and winds, which is soon met with passion from the orchestra to bring it to an end. MOLTO BELLA! LOVED IT!
@WildStarvingWolf i can play violin, viola, cello, double bass professionally, it would sound WAY better if the violin 1 did the harmony violin 2 did the accompaniment to the harmony, viola did accompaniment to the melody, cellos did the melody, and the double bass did the bass line.
Yeah, I've been reading through a few comments and it kinda pisses me off to see a bunch of clueless amateurs (though I am one myself) accusing professionals of not knowing what they're doing. They apparently think it's easy to play in the Korean Symphony Orchestra.
It's not tango, sure. But technicalities - because if there is one thing I detest it's technicalities - aside, what these people did resulted in an excellent performance.
I agree w/you. We amateurs CAN have an opinion, but certainly we can´t state or say that professionals like them do not know how to do their job. They are professionals, we aren´t. Please get that little detail inside your head.
Lol at this, it doesn't sound like tango, too legato, it takes away the tension of the rhythm. (123-123-12, which the bass does). Its more gentle without stressing the rhythms.
Its an interesting take on it, but I don't think they -get- the tango. I say learn the rules before breaking them.
Astor Piazzolla was called the "killer of tango" back when he entered the scene; the rhythm he used was completely different from the tango before it, so if it's tango or not is subjective.
But I do agree it's too gentle. Still it's really good.
I agree with you completely. As a resident in Argentina, the origins of tango and this song as well, i have to say that the true taste of tango isn't displayed with this performance.
it sounds beautiful, and it may sound like the tempo i a little slow... but if you hear this song in a really fast tempo it just sounds...horrible ...to be honest.
the orchestra makes it sound... well... bigger and very beautifil...
I can't believe all the negative comments about this gorgeous performance. Of course this sounds less brassy and sqeeky since it's all string instruments. It's every bit Tango with the grace of classical tone.

yea....they definitely need to speed this one up/push the tempo a fair bit.
They, in some regards, totally killed it because they're just playing notes on a page without really truly understanding WHAT they're playing. Quite sad because it's an otherwise, very beautiful piece.
I know how tango should be even though it was great performance, perhaps it could have been more tango like...lots of tango feeling....being very critical perhaps?
I am Korean, and I have every respect for KSO, but with all honesty I don't think it was a Libertango, let alone like any tango. I guess to play true tango you would really need to know and be able to feel where it comes from, the expression and the tempo, all the rest of it. That goes the same for any kind of music I guess
muy buena versión Soy argentino y me enorgullese que el tango sea universal. Astor es mi referente musical. soy joven y a mi padre le gusta el tango de la vieja guardia
I find your comments quite offensive. You're implying that Asians know less than you do just because they're from a whole other continent. Just because Asians aren't white doesn't mean they're stupid or backwards.
I believe what he was trying to say by "they have no idea"is that being from opposite side of the earth, it must be hard to rightly perform argentinian music, but NOT implying they´re stupid or antything. I believe it sure IS hard to play music from other places, as from other times too, and its both ways! as ivm sure it will not bne easty to argentinians to play korean music. But with love for the music and study it CAN be done!! dont you think?
Libertango with a serious hangover! Lame, very lame, painful to listen to, and what's that stomping-the-foot refrain? Blasphemous interpretation of the masterwork! Off with the conductor's baton!!

오케스트라라 웅장하긴한데 파워풀하면서 자유로운 그런 느낌이 안사네요. 특히나 템포도 느리구요.

it's obviously the conductor's interpretation of the song for an orchestra.

This piece can be arranged in several ways and can be played by an orchestra. that doesn't matter.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
dont be so harsh they are from direct opposite side of the earth from you
of course they have no idea
but isnt it cool those people even have any idea what argentina is ?

I find your comments quite offensive. You're implying that Asians know less than you do just because they're from a whole other continent. Just because Asians aren't white doesn't mean they're stupid or backwards.
sir, do you know all the countries in the world?
you idiot.

But with love for the music and study it CAN be done!! dont you think?

they could play this speed in the rehearsal but not at the actual performance.

it's ok, I think it should have more dynamics and power if it's going to go about a classical approach, it is lacking some serious dynamics..

Libertango with a serious hangover! Lame, very lame, painful to listen to, and what's that stomping-the-foot refrain? Blasphemous interpretation of the masterwork! Off with the conductor's baton!!
