  • You can buy them at Chinatown (Yaowarat) in Bangkok. They are so cheap over there.

    Ben

  • i missed teochew opera so very much i wish to place order some can anyone tell me where to get them

  • @1958sadie TNA (东南亚唱片公司)

    珍珠大厦底层#B1-09

    Tel: 65330092

    Unisong

    133 New Bridge Rd

    #01-29 Chinatown Point

    Sngapore 059413

    Tel: 62785208

For the store, Da You, which is above CK shopping store in Chinatown, I am not so sure of it's number. But they are selling shows at very low price.

I'll suggest you to shop in Da You store first & proceed to Unisong or TNA if u can't find certain shows, 'cos Unisong & TNA are selling at more expensive prices.

  • 谢谢你,我喜欢看 陈三五娘 can upload 闹开封 full video

  • Hei, guys. SO glad that you all like to watch n listen to teochew Operas. I am a 2nd genration from mainland China Teochew (Perhaps should be Shantou ) and I do speak teochew, Hokkian, Cantonese as a SIngaporean, But sad that no many here do like to speak teochew but instead broken english mixed chinese..Teochew Opera have not much people watching now a day except the old folks above 40s..Thnaks for sharing all our happiness in Teochew.

  • this is awesome!

  • I just love all!

Beautiful and sweet art into your soul.

A good time. thanks for sharing

  • as far i as know, i couldn't find any around here... mostly are in mandarin or cantonese... thanks ay...

  • i'm sorry, if i come across as ignorant or just plain stupid... i asked my mum and than my gran, both said i'm a teochew... so i thought teohew is an ethnic group, until recently, i found out that it's a name of place in china... so i went on wiki and some forums, what i found out is that teochew is han... is this true? or just like my mum said not han, just teochew?

  • Hi tql1987, I'm surprised u r Hokkien. What is it abt Teochew opera that u like? What is the difference between Hokkien n Teochew opera? Thanks so much for sharing all your collections.

  • I have no idea why I like it. Perhaps it's affinity? The difference between the two types of opera is hard to explain. But I do watch both and I love them, but my collections are mostly Teochew.

  • Hi i'm Teochew from Cambodia love this show.

My dad toll me the reasons Teochew didn't let their sons or daughters to married with Hokkien is because Hokkien are the grandparent of Teochew people that how I understand.

  • @sivmeng1 really?! this is the first time i heard this... unlike you, my parents didn't tell me much... except that i'm a teochew... anyway i didn't pay much attention when i was younger, until now... i felt like i missed a chuck of my life and heritage...

@tql1987 thanks, this is great... um, do you know where can i buy those films?

  • @emeraldwood These shu b available in many stores. They are also available online.

  • Am glad that there are still people alive who enjoy this show! I was introduced to this show as a kid in Singapore in the 1960s altho was educated in a missionary school. Now almost 50 years later and living in the USA with 3 young kids (born in the USA), tried to share it with them but they think it is silly. Ha...Ha..

  • It is not really. It is just part of the culture that has been unfortunately forgotten by many, especially the younger generations. Not many people understand why our seniors cry when they watch sad scenes from these shows. My mum told me the cinema was full of teary audience when they were showing 蓝继子哭街 by 方巧玉 and 陈文昌.

  • 太棒了!

    謝謝!

  • Love it !

  • Fortunately, the maid Yi Chun, explained the misunderstanding to Chen San and arranged them for a meeting. As the wedding date was getting closer, they decided to elope back to Chen San's hometown...

  • As Hokkien born in VietNam, I love to watch

Opera in Hokkien as well TeoChew!I was told

this story by my Grandma as a kid.Tang Sa(the

gentleman)was Hokkien and Wu Nian(The lady)

was TeoChew,is it right? It's been quite long

time ago, unbable to remember the whole story.

Could I find all details over here ! Anyone

    can help? Thanks in advance.

  • Coincidentally, I'm a Hokkien born in S'pore! Chen San met Wu Niang on the last day of Chinese New Year. They fell in love at first sight. However, Wu Niang was forced to marry Lin Da. Just as she was bothering abt this issue, Chen San passed by her house and Wu Niang gave him a token of love. Chen San reciprocate by becoming a slave in her house. However, due to the strict rules, he's unable to see her. When he did, there was other people in the vincinity that she had to ignore him.

  • Hi tql1987,

Nice to know you're Hokkien too! Thanks for

your explanation. This reminds me that TeoChew didn't let their sons or daughters

to get married with Hokkien long long time ago(Told by my grandma).Fortunately, today people accept it!

  • right.make me call back so many memories. thank u for the guy post it here.

  • My Dad still has this tape in TeoChew but not

    Hokkien,he got it from a TeoChew's friend.

    Thanks! :)

  • WOW so powderful woh

  • The Love Story between Chen San and Wu Niang.

  • 果然是潮劇瑰寶,觀看人次居然有四千多,真是難得。

  • Wow. This is my mom favorite opera. I remember accompanyng her to the theatre to watch the show. I did'nt appreciate too much then, but now that my mom has passed on, it sure bring back fond but sad memories. thanks for posting it.

  • Most Teochew operas at that time featured female xiaosheng; so it was a culture shock to see and hear a male xiaosheng. But yes, that era was the zenith of Teochew opera. And note the female chorus at the end of each line; a special feature that makes Teochew Opera such a musical experience.

  • Wud like to add: the hero is from the neighbouring Hokkien town of "Chua Chiew" (ie QuanZhou in Fujian province). So the Teochews consider this love story an insult - that a chaste Teochew lady would love (and much more, elope) with a Hokkien man !!!

  • I listened to this sound track many times as a child. This is the first time I saw the film clip. Wonderful. Thanks so much.

  • I first watched this show in the cinema as a kid in either late 50s or early 60s. Brings back fond memories. One of the best Teochew shows I have watched.

  • one of the best! can you put the complete show on the tube? please, thanks!

  • this is a famous teochew opera, great!

  • tis is one of the part tt i lik!!! esp whn he sang e lychee part!!! tx alot!!!!!
