Has anyone even noticed that it actually sounds like a canary?? The violin comes closest to a singing canary! The artist makes a great interpretation.
hey, i just started learning this tonight - you have provided me with inspriation to perservere with it - you have done a good job - it would sound awsome with accomp.. as well
Paul Nero the father of pianist Peter Nero played this in the early 50s. I have heard numerous interpretations, but nothing that ever compared to Nero's original recording. There were several Jazz violinist who achieved popularity about that time.
The song came from Florian ZaBach in the 50's. He did it the best and is even listed in the Guiness book of records for playing 12.5 notes per second on the violin. The fastest ever recorded.
are you aware those are supposed to be tripple stops in the 3rd measure? Your supposed to play all those notes at once by pressing down really hard and moving the bow fast. just a tip.
Hi Scott! I still love watching this vid. It reminds me of the good ole days with the Wilsons :)

the theme sounds really good on the violin, but so far as the entire piece goes, i like it better on a brass instrument.

ZaBach was my favorite jazz violinist, but I do have an Autographed copy of The Hot Canary with Nero listed as composer.
I wonder if Roby Lakatos can play that many notes per second. If not he comes close.

I think there's a few that can play that fast today. But, it was a huge feat back then.

Not the best I've heard, but I've only heard professionals play it before, so I'd say it's still massively impressive.

thanks for the tip. The piece is very light, and it's more a "stylistic" maneuver to alternate strings at the beginning, but you do have a point.
