Big Mistake on my Soul... Had a 2001 748 Biposto, with only 557.00 miles. Sold it mistake... Looking for all Ducati Cmeoncbay would like to buy back some of the history/memories he has lost Looking/want 2002 Ducati 998 R, droped its ok not running I don't care just need a fram to start with don't have a frame its ok, lets start with a wheel you get the picture. '02 998R, Red, '02 748R, Yellow is ok. C me on C-Bay team. 998R cmeoncbay 408 859-7411 408 859
Its not a 998, vents on the side show that it is either a early 748, 916 or 996. Looking more closely, the wheels are the very rare magnesium chromate and it looks to have a magnesium swingarm so I would suggest that it is a 955 Corsa race bike or a replica based around a 916SP.
Also, neither bike is going that quickly so doesnt look to be a race just filming.
@seatsniffer100 see how the r1 passed the duc on the straight in the last bit of the vid... with ease... it's coz that rider was holding back to get a video of his mate. Camera man had way better lines through corners compared to the ducati rider ;-)
LOL the R1 is barely stroking...Ducatis should stay were they belong....on the show room floor. Besides this aint no race...just a joy ride on the track
i hate how everything that is made by the hands of asian people is always automaticly inferior in the eyes of simple minded white people. just like when they compare the goldwing to a ugly ass harley.
The Duc rider was shit. Even having a superior bike, he couldn't lose the Yamaha with the chase camera. I own a Duc 998, and that was weak. Good video, but novice driving.
the 998 is a ship! the 1198 is good but only have Ducati traction control and the new R1 is the best bike in the world better hp, better weight and better price
I think so, but I'm not sure, I couldn't find solid results...so I gave Yamaha the benefit of the doubt. If you find proof that Ducati still won Manufacturers title for 2009 post here please.
Ducati won the manufacturer's title in 2009, Haga and Fabrizio were in 2nd and 3rd, and Spies won by 6 points, if I remember correctly. Not to say anything bad about Spies or Yamaha, but Ducati rules WSBK.
@PhotosByHamza Are you a retard? Have you ever taken a look at the WSBK rules and NOT figured why it is almost always a twin-cylinder bike that wins? The handicap rules are not even close to being scientifically correct. Fact is, as the cubic capacity of the bike increases, the twins begin to fall back, never mind the imposed handicaps. Peace.
Apparently you are the retard. The Jap Bikes make more horsepower than the Ducati's, they are supposed to be better but they are not.
You need to read the rules, the 4 cylinder bikes have more horsepower. Yet they lose to Ducati's superior handling.
You need to read the specs of each bike, then read the rules, if you go by Horsepower, the Jap bikes clearly have an advantage, yet they handle like shit.
For all the chatter I didn't exactly see the duke just walking away effortlessly. I don't know, but perhaps rider ability may have a bit of an effect on the outcome. Especially for one lap. What was it the top two riders were mounted on? Oh yeah Yamaha's. While I one day want to own a Duke myself let's not let brand loyalty blind us to reality.
i remember when i first saw a 916 in a bike mag. blew me away the styling + king carl was winning everything on one. what a machine. had the choice of a second hand 916 or a newer (still second hand) r1. had to go with my head rather than my heart. went for jap reliability. just glad i have bikes in my life. pity those that never experience the thrill of it in their own lifetimes.
It's not the Bike. It's the Rider. if VR rides a Ducati, I bet He'll can win races. He might ride for Ducati Hopefully! R&D on that M1 is mostly VR. I like both bikes. If you're a motorcycle lover, you'd love any bikes out there, even the new R1 looking like the roach monster from MIB. haha.
I love Yamaha but let's give Ducati some due respect. Yes, the R1 is winning in SBK, the M1 in MotoGP but compare Ducati in terms of output vs the big 4; Ducati has less than 1200 employees and operates in the hundreds of millions compare this to the others esp Honda working w/over 100,000 employees and operating in the billions, it is quite impressive how competitive Ducati is with relatively limited R&D resources. Japeanese engineering is amazing but Italian has passion! appreciate both!
In track races, it aint all about the bike, the bikes performance i would say is just 30% of what you need to win a track race, the 70% is skills........ and BTW 04-06 R1 best-looking, it looks so damn sexy, better looking than any Duc's out their or any other bikes out there. Yea sure 08-09 R1 looks horrible.
I think they know each other. The R1 rider let the Duc rider pass so that he can film him. I don't know why the R1 rider keeps missing those apexes....perhaps also to film his friend...?
Lap time is crap. You choose someone a bit faster to compare bikes. A 125 was 15 seconds faster there....... and 600's 17 sec faster..... (was, cause that track doesn't exist no more...)
This aint shit compated to a harley softtail with some sweet ape hangers. The pipes aint even loud and there aint no saddlebags or studs. Show up at Rocky's tap with this and I'll show you an ass that is going to be tapped.
yea yamaha is faster, but better? well that depends what your after. but the guy on the ducati did not ride it properly!
jap bikes are great bikes for technology but the ducati is better for durability so in sort manufactures each have their own aspects that make them good it just depends what your after!!!
The 998 often beat the R1 on superstock races, and it outright trounced it on superbike races. Look it up if you don't believe me.
The R1 is faster on a straight line, but on a track, not really. It does take a lot more balls to ride it the way it's meant to be ridden than any jap bike, though.
Yes indeed, the Ducati twins have ruled superbike for decades.... Most people who hate them are those who cannot afford one. As nfs5676 says, the bike is only part of the equation! R1 rider really does need to work on those lines......... at the end of the day we all ride for the love of it regardless what we choose to ride or our personal skill levels. I will stick with my 1098 Tricolore. In case you havn't checked recently, Ducati resale value is way up on Honzukiyamasaki's.
The R1 may be quicker but it sounds like a moped. The Ducati 998 is possibly the worlds best sounding motorbike in the world! Besides the Duc is a much better made bike and is way cooler!
Of course. The reason is the have the finest riders on their roster. Just remember where Yamaha was before Vaentino joined them. And please, let's not mention their superbikes pedigree.
Being a Ducati owner myself, you have to realize even a cherry 998 produces around the same power as the current base model 848. So per cubic centimeter of displacement, the 998 is very behind on the times. Depending on year of the R1, the 998 would get spanked...as seen in this video. But I would give more credibility to skill differential of the riders. Both bikes are fantastic and have their own merits. To each their own, sometimes you just have to admit the competition is better.

For all the chatter I didn't exactly see the duke just walking away effortlessly. I don't know, but perhaps rider ability may have a bit of an effect on the outcome. Especially for one lap. What was it the top two riders were mounted on? Oh yeah Yamaha's. While I one day want to own a Duke myself let's not let brand loyalty blind us to reality.

i remember when i first saw a 916 in a bike mag. blew me away the styling + king carl was winning everything on one. what a machine. had the choice of a second hand 916 or a newer (still second hand) r1. had to go with my head rather than my heart. went for jap reliability. just glad i have bikes in my life. pity those that never experience the thrill of it in their own lifetimes.
jabbaba 2 years ago
BTW. That Ducati in the Video is the classic one. That's prob over 10yrs old, yet it's still awesome.
UnivoxMax 2 years ago 2
It's not the Bike. It's the Rider. if VR rides a Ducati, I bet He'll can win races. He might ride for Ducati Hopefully! R&D on that M1 is mostly VR. I like both bikes. If you're a motorcycle lover, you'd love any bikes out there, even the new R1 looking like the roach monster from MIB. haha.
UnivoxMax 2 years ago
I love Yamaha but let's give Ducati some due respect. Yes, the R1 is winning in SBK, the M1 in MotoGP but compare Ducati in terms of output vs the big 4; Ducati has less than 1200 employees and operates in the hundreds of millions compare this to the others esp Honda working w/over 100,000 employees and operating in the billions, it is quite impressive how competitive Ducati is with relatively limited R&D resources. Japeanese engineering is amazing but Italian has passion! appreciate both!
fullthrottledetails 2 years ago 2
That Yamaha has over 150hp. Can get upto near 200hp easily. The Duc is low powered and heavy as hell.

In track races, it aint all about the bike, the bikes performance i would say is just 30% of what you need to win a track race, the 70% is skills........ and BTW 04-06 R1 best-looking, it looks so damn sexy, better looking than any Duc's out their or any other bikes out there. Yea sure 08-09 R1 looks horrible.
nfs5676 2 years ago
04-08 are vertually identical...the 09 is the 1st time since 04 where there was dramatic fairing changes...
musiciskey777 2 years ago
I think they know each other. The R1 rider let the Duc rider pass so that he can film him. I don't know why the R1 rider keeps missing those apexes....perhaps also to film his friend...?

Quello che guida la Ducati è negato, di curve non ne fa bene una.
misterpirlotto 2 years ago
Lap time is crap. You choose someone a bit faster to compare bikes. A 125 was 15 seconds faster there....... and 600's 17 sec faster..... (was, cause that track doesn't exist no more...)

"Yamaha only won because of this and that" Bla bla. Yamaha is just a better bike.
I know it's an endless discussion, but I'm right :D
knicity 2 years ago
yea yamaha is faster, but better? well that depends what your after. but the guy on the ducati did not ride it properly!
jap bikes are great bikes for technology but the ducati is better for durability so in sort manufactures each have their own aspects that make them good it just depends what your after!!!

YAMAHA RULEZZ !
jebotebelaj 2 years ago
The 998 often beat the R1 on superstock races, and it outright trounced it on superbike races. Look it up if you don't believe me.
The R1 is faster on a straight line, but on a track, not really. It does take a lot more balls to ride it the way it's meant to be ridden than any jap bike, though.

r1 is faster in every way v twin suck they should only be on cruisers looser
ssvegeta121 2 years ago
20 years of competitions would beg to differ.
And just because you're too much of a squid to ride a twin doesn't mean you should take it out on me :)
BigUriel 2 years ago 3

Besides the Duc is a much better made bike and is way cooler!

ah ha the R1 not even trying, you can hear it hes not even giving full revs! yamaha is the dominant company in moto gp for a reason!

Of course. The reason is the have the finest riders on their roster. Just remember where Yamaha was before Vaentino joined them. And please, let's not mention their superbikes pedigree.

Yeah right, coz Vale rossi is the pilot,
those tow guys are useless, I did better than that!

yeah, it's called having the best riders. Ducati had the superior bike last year, only reason they didn't win was ROSSI.
