Cool. I used to work in Product Development at a cannery. If you fill a can with product, seam it, but don't process it in the retort, then the bacteria inside will grow. give off a gas and eventually the can will explode like this of it's own accord. I left a can of broccoli & stilton soup on the bench over the weekend by accident, came back on Monday morning and it was on the ceiling. The smell was something else. :-)
I heard there would be a "cool little explosion", so I tried this on a bonfire, standing about ten feet back. I would have even been closer if it wasn't such a hot fire. I don't know if the beans, the can or something else in the fire hit me, but it left a very painful red and black mess on my midsection and ruined a decent shirt. Someone else caught it in the arm. Not worth it, in normal speed.
News report - "Boston Baked Beans' stock suddenly fell through the floor after reports of cans exploding all across the United States. Scientific research suggests that the incidents occurred in a seemingly expanding ring originating in California from the backyard of a man named Jeff."
lol it would have been funny if you were like ''omg im waiting for 6 minutes...Im gonna turn off my camera for a bit'' and just when you closed your camera, the can exploded :P
woulda went well with my dollar store steak, yeah, don't try that in home, unless you love to clean up crap spewed all over LOL, i prefer my explosions where i don't have to clean them up, beans is biodegradeable... mother nature is a canable
@rnickeymouse It could have been worse. Imagine if you can tried to open the can while it was under so much pressure. You probably wouldn't be with us today.
when ever i watch your videos i think of that friend that everybody has, the one will do anything then videotape it, you know the one that's freakin awesome and that everybody loves!
I did something similar when I was a kid camping, I threw a can of cream corn in the camp fire and a few minutes later we were all covered in boiling hot cream of corn! Needless to say I was not very popular for the duration of the camping trip...
Thanks alot, you sent me back to when I was 17. We were out camping and someone put beans in the fire, I knew they were there, I thought walking to the far side of the fire that all would be good, well my luck, the beans went off and sure as can be I was sprayed... Oh and our tent was shot to, lots of hot bean holes. Those were the days, I miss them.
Note to anyone considering this, or tossing a can of beans in the campfire for a practical joke. Boiling hot beans are like napalm. They stick and burn. You will not be happy campers.
@BryceFritzel I didn't know it would be so dang violent when it let loose. It bent up the stove pretty good. The can was completely empty. Pretty wild!
@taofledermaus Haha, wow. I can only imagine the anticipation building up to it!! Did you sit somewhere and watch the whole thing and wait for it? And also, how did you time the slow motion recording? Did you use the pre-recording feature where it continuously cuts off the last 5 seconds or so?
@BryceFritzel I stood back quite a ways. The can kept popping and there was no warning when it went off. I just recorded the whole thing continuously with both cameras. The high speed clip was 2 ½ hours long.
@BryceFritzel The F1 only has pre-record for the burst mode- taking still photos. Remember this camera came out a couple years ago so it doesn't have too many of the cool new features.

Cool footage!
You should also be able to do this with most other canned goods as long as there is enough liquid inside.

@CasioEXF1Freak Thanks! I think you need to prove that other canned goods will do it.... lol

@taofledermaus I'm thinking it needs to be scaled up...maybe like a house water heater LOL

@rnickeymouse I can't imagine that going off inside a toaster oven. I really didn't find too many bean bits afterwards, or the lid.

@taofledermaus It ripped my toaster oven apart, I was fortunate it didn't burn my place down.
