@pipemezadigital P-7815U only has a P7350 and 9800M GTS, meanwhile G51Vx-RX05 has a Q9000 and GTX 260M. Quite different, so try to choose wisely to suite how much gaming you do on your laptop :D

Not when most programs people use and most games do not harness quad core technology, Core 2 Duo's at 3.5 can beat some Q6600's at 4.0 in gaming, because the extra 2 cores is just wasted energy on the quad for most games.

Bioshock, GTA IV, and Far Cry 2 are engineered to utilize all 4 cores although they have had limited use of the 4th core probably because you don't need alot of it since you already have three cores doing most fo the work. considering intel doesn't offer a tri-core processor a quad core is a great gaming CPU. along with games are using more of the 4th core as they are developed. anyone will tell you the 8 thread i7 runs better than 4 thread q6600.

That is down to optimization, hyper threading a P4 does not make it a duel core, it simply makes the cpu split the info in logical and physical data, allowing it to throttle itself higher if there is more physical and less logical or vice versa. I7 expanded on that and made it even better, I7 is still a quad core, it just has new technology on it to utilize the info faster and to split it to again throttle it to physical and logical.

Whether it be logical or physical the fact that the games can use more than 2 threads is all I am saying a quad core runs 4 threads while a hyper threaded dual-core uses 4 threads as well giving them in theory the same through put ability. although they wont since obviously the reg. quad will do better. The whole point is that a game CAN utilize more than 2 threads as you were saying...a year or two ago that was true but not anymore.

LOL. It's hilarious how you try to say the lower resolution is actually better. I have the P-7811 and I'd rather have my 1920x1200 display than the only new feature: a bigger HDD.

Not sure if the processor is better either... 2.4GHz Dual Core vs. 2.0GHz Quad? I think the dual core beats the quad in games.

Webcam is very nice, and the 9800MGTS doesn't get a little bit hot... it gets really hot lol (although it really does depend on how long you use it and what game you play).

about the processors, yeah the dual core is still a competitor to the quad core, but since newer gamers like prototype and i bet even red faction guerilla and modern warefare 2 will be threaded to take advantage of all 4 cores. but hopefully not like GTA IV PC did. =(

at the end after using many laptops and desktops the biggest bottle neck is the hard disk

never ever get a 5400 rpm drive for a laptop when u want performance it feels dead slow even with the high end models its still slow

Depends on what you want. If you like games , definitely the Gateway P-7808u FX., But I'm not a Gaming type, I mostly program, and code, but I would definitely prefer the MacbookPro. Which are you better with Windows or Mac osx? Im guessing Windows, so you could get the laptop. But ultimately its up to you. Im more attracted to Macs.

honestly, those 2 computers are very different. The gateway, as he said... is for gaming, so if you are getting new laptop for gaming, no doubt, go for the gateway. but anything else, I would go for the MacBook Pro
