Slow/low extended bass frequencies with a Sci-Fi, street/crunk theme which became popular around 1990 and peaked before 2000. Bass music is making a revival though. As far as Dubstep goes, it isn't bass music. It is of the electronic genre, yes, and some beats/bass have elements of bass music, but it is not and never will be bass music.
