This was not a case of 'hammer' as suggested. It was reported that a repair was made to that line in which the crew accidentally pumped way too much sealant in then necessary. This blocked the pressure release system and once this system is incapacitated the pressure rises until it finds another way to vent itself... KABOOOMMM!!!

When a large group of water gathers in the steam pipe and then is suddenly coverted into steam in 1 area the pipe will explode.

This was simply a freak and rare accident.

I was in one of the buildings right by there when it happened (22nd floor). This video, especially the sound, really comes the closest to the actual experience of anything I've seen yet. It literally sounded like a train going by outside, which is exactly how they described the towers falling. Didn't know what to expect when we got downstairs and this was a huge relief, but that feeling doesn't go away.
