I have the Droid and Ive tried everything to save the battery but it's still dead when I get home and if I want to keep it alive I have to charge it at least twice a day. Any other advice?
Go to the homescreen and bring up the Task Killer. Click "Kill All" turn the screen off and put the phone in your pocket. Say what you want about it, but I have very good battery life.
Watch the video again, he's not using a Task Killer! He's using a Task Manager which is just like force closing the app through settings>manage applications. Some believe that using a Task Killer is bad for your phone. In my opinion, they're wrong. I use a Task Killer all the time and I have tremendous battery life. 25+ hours with moderate use. Let's say you want to check your Facebook, here's all you have to do when using a Task Killer. Open Facebook, check it, post comments, whatever.
yea, never use any ATK, if you really need to kill and app, just go to settings applications and force close it, should only use for beta version apps when the fail!
I just got this phone, and I have a question. My service is through PagePlus, and I have the 1200 minute plan with 50MB of free data. My question is: How do I turn on and off the data connection so that I can control how much data I use? I use the WiFi when I can, but when I'm in my car, I have to use the data plan. Hope you can help.
@kikofamily Honestly, I don't think that there is a way that you can turn off the data connection from your service provider. Putting it in WIFI mode will allow you to use your data and not take away from your 50mb a month while you are downloading applications or surfing the web, but that is the only way that I would know how. All smart phones require you to have a data connection. I hope that helped.
@kikofamily Don´t know if you found out the solution but to do just what you mencioned use apn droid (you find it on the market). It enables/disables all web access radio technologies and protocols like 3G and GPRS/HSDPA services. Try it out if you haven´t already.
hey guys i am 13 and i use my phone alot but i have never hada smart phone before and i get a new phone in a couple weeks and i was wondering if the droid 2 would be a good phone for me. some1 please answer
i had advanced task killer, it ALWAYS would stop an app for like, not even a minute. and, it would run it again. /: like, skype. I DONT HAVE OR USE SKYPE. EVER ! ! ! it DONT workk.
task killers do not extend battery life. The only thing that they should be used for are to kill nonresponsive apps that are causing lag in the ROM and CPU. Android apps account for a very small part of the usage. Display is most...voice calls next (depending on whether you talk or surf). Google has issued info about task killers...and they do not use any more energy to be kept in memory background. Common misconception
@yakitoriPB well if u have an app that is unresponsive and u use trask killers then it might (but i have no idea i have never had a smart phone before) delete the app so the battery doesnt have to keep another app running so therefore can make the battery last longer maybe i could be wrong
Use Advance Task Killer to kill open apps all at once. Make sure you UNCHECK the ones you do not want to kill. For example, uncheck Alarm & Timer. If left checked, it will be shut off and you may not get your morning wake up alarm.
nexus one has a defining background, the one where u can see all the colours go up, down and both sidesways... my question is.. by using that background of nexus one... could that background drain more battery than a... lets say normaal background with a picture or photo ?
I have a question i have apps on my 3 homepages do they drain my battery? Also I use the app killer app and when i kill them all. I will lock the phone and restart it again and the apps are all running again when i open up the app killer screen?
an other tip that some people don't know that if you go to widgets and put power control on one of your sceens than you can turn things like wi/fi etc. off. you can also dim down the sceen. there is dim, normal and than very bright. i put it onto dim when bettery hits 50%. @abe841056 I watched a vid about it and it looks good and most likely out matches the droid a bit, but I think there are a few things in question about it. The camera is the same as the droid but they say it is better. I saw the whole 1 hr and 54 min video about it and the pics looked better than the droid without the droid thouching them but after when I go in to picsay and make the quailty higher it was just as good. I think the Iphone has something picsay like in there. plz don't jumptothings
Advanced task manager is free, install it then put it on your home screen as a widget, then all you have to do is hit it once to kill all apps... very useful.
a better way to save battery life instead of killing all your apps is to download the spare parts app. i had a weird problem where my phone when you hit the power button (not to shut down) to put the phone to sleep actually kept running instead of sleeping. download spare parts and scroll down to end button behavior. click it and have it "go to sleep" with this, the longest i managed to go without charging was 26hrs (then battery died). thats medium usage. lots of text though.
I charge my battery when i go to bed around 11pm, then when i wake up i take it off the charger at 7am, and if i am not on it ALL day, running the heaviest apps ALL day, i can usually make it last til atleast 9pm when i get home from work, then if i need to i can always throw it on the charger.
the battery life grows after like a month u have to go through the day let it die then charge it it will eventuly get use to it n have a longer batter life
If you have the droid with verizon you can text for free with google voice with push gmail notification. It works like a charm for me. I pay $84. a month with 250 tx messages since google voice doesn't do MMS yet.
After watching this I understand why non multitasking apps (like the iphone) might actually be better for people like my mom. Who don't want to deal with task managers, or what battery pull different apps pull.
does anyone know how to permenantly keep the bottom buttons not lit? Every video I see has the bottom part not lit up and I want mine like that. Can you gus help me out?
You do not need a task killer app. the Android operating system works differently than other O.S.'s... also, there is a task killer built into Android...if you really feel the need to stop an app.
I go all day, with very heavy use, and my phone works flawlessly and i get around 8 hours.
the problems come from people downloading tons of apps, all at once, without even checking them...I suggest downloading one a day, and test it for that day...if your phone acts up, you know the problem.
for example with GPS on i got about 10-12 hours calling/internet/texting and with GPS off using the same things i got about a day and a half. out of it.
The high resolution screen on the Droid is what's killing the battery life. Just turn the brightness down to its lowest level and your battery life will increase three-fold.
Advanced task killer sucks, and caused my droid to crash and force close. I highly recommend taskkilla, which includes a widget to automatically end all tasks at once.
Android syncs with your GMail account, which syncs your contacts, calendar, mail, tasks, etc. for free. Any data directly on your phone should be on the SD card, which is removable storage. Why throw away $192 (over the life of the two-year contract)?
192 for a 2 year contract? Not bad i say compared to its competitor the iphone with is STILL 299.99 for the 16 gb plus it is an over priced plan. and retail without a plan the droid is 599.99 and the iphone is 798.99. win win!
I talked to Verizon. W/ Unlimited texting, the data plan, and my family's calling shared minutes it's only 40 for mine, not sure if that includes the calling though.
i might get this phone for Christmas and people sat it breaks easy and the screen gets gunked up a lot and everything like that is that true is there any other full keyboard phones that aren't just virtual also is there a way to exit out of an app like instead of keeping it running and one last question does the app you said in your video (i cant remember the name) cost any money?
Indeed, the oil from your skin will naturally rub off on things you touch, but the Droid screen wipes clean very easily. All you have to remember is to turn off the display or lock the screen for a moment before you do, because it IS a touch-screen.
@zakattakk1 i say get a shield for your screen like invisishield or w/e or screenguard, i hardly ever see my fingerprints, it doesnt get scratched at all and u can even get the privacy screens so noone can look at what your doing from beside you, or well its hard to, and i got an otterbox case, its like a rubber case with a plastic peice that is really durable and nice, ppl up at verizon even advertise it by putting it on then throwing the phone across the room
@zakattakk1 I'll simply say, ignore everything you've heard negative about the Droid & BUY IT. Its great, I've had many of the smartphones on the market, including iPhone, & none of them compare to this. I've had it three weeks & its not failed me once. The app he talks about is Advanced Task Killer, its free. It really does increase your battery life drastically. If you have any questions about this phone (if you havent already bought it) ask me.
If open apps dont have any active tasks (such as facebook etc) it will NOT drain any battery. Closing open apps will only slow down your phone. Google it.
@andranic - I've had my droid for only about a day now and I'm wondering if there's a way to just end the app when you're exiting out of it...I know that if you're in a certain app and you just press the 'home' key it will keep the app running in the background, but if I just keep pushing the 'back' button until I get back to that home screen will it exit and shut down the app? - Does any of what I just asked make sense to you?
Yea dont use any type of Task Killer they all have bugs. They do not work correctly, and it will also make your applications start even slower next time when opening them and will cause the phone to lag and use up battery.
I noticed yesterday even after I charged my phone from when it died to when it was full, left it on over night, 6 hours, and it was almost dead. Got the charge warning.
All I used today was ebuddy, and handcent, its still at about 75%. Didn't know things stayed running, good to know.
Can the app constantly be closed because some apps appear to be running and i used Advanced task killer(free app) and ended them but a min. later they start running up again. Help?
im have google talk storage, gmail, alarm clock, messagin(iknoe i use tht one) calendar, voice dialer, and maps. I dnt even use these and they r using lots of memory nd Im new to the phone and battery drains a bit to quickly.
i havent gone on the internet or those apps listed. is there even a way to close an app once u've clicked rather than buyin this app?
I think I read on some forums that other people have been having the same issue, like for me the alarm clock always pop back up after I use the atk to close it. I don't believe they have a fix on that but I read that you shouldn't be too worried about memory issues hope this helps =]
Currently, google isn't supporting that feature. I found an app called ChompySMS that allows you to customize your texts. I don't use it often because i wasn't sure it it charges you. Hopefully google decides to add that :P
the problem with my droid is it says email is using like 32% of the battery life. even more than the display does. I turned off how often it checks for emails. it still uses 32% of the battery life. it dies in an couple of hours and takes a while to charge again. Any ideas?
And this is why iPhone apps close when your done with them. The Multitasking is highly overrated for such a small device, IT'S NOT A DESTOP and therefore shouldn't be exactly like one.
I personally don't care for Android OS it seems too much like a computer (like every other desktop), one shouldn't have to have any kind of task manager to use their phone. When your on the road the last thing I'd want to use is a 'task manager'. I bet Android 2.1 or 3 will do this better (mainly get rid of it).
You have alot of good points. It took some time getting used to closing the apps. the problem is that everyone expects there to be a close button within the app. I mean yea it makes sense to add it in the app but for some reason the Android os wants you to manually close the apps from a different area. This is something that's going to have to change in order this phone to really be a great os. If your not so Tech savey how are you going to know to go and get this app or anything else to exit
i have a family share plan with 3 people and our signal and battery life is fine. the only way the battery is gonn suck is if you download and play games that use up crazy graphics. like the RPG's
It depends on phone usage. if you use your phone a lot, you will have crappy battery life. But if it just sits in your pocket all day, and you text every now and then, and make a couple calls, of course you'll have good battery life
I work for VZW and the best way to kill your apps is advanced task killer, you can get it through the free apps, in one button push you can kill all running apps, I use it about 3 or 4 times a day, I watch alot of videos and text alot and my battery lasts a day and a half. Make sure you kill your apps or your battery will drain, turn your bluetooth and wifi off when you are not using them, that kills the battery too
also, ...from home screen. press menu -settings - applications - manage applications. once there you can see whats running and 'stop' tasks from running as well (without having to use a downloaded task app).
dude..your advise is as helpful as telling a child how to shit on a diaper

i might get this phone for Christmas and people sat it breaks easy and the screen gets gunked up a lot and everything like that is that true is there any other full keyboard phones that aren't just virtual also is there a way to exit out of an app like instead of keeping it running and one last question does the app you said in your video (i cant remember the name) cost any money?
zakattakk1 2 years ago
the phone is extremely Durable. and every phone with a screen gets dirty when you touch it.
andranic 2 years ago
Indeed, the oil from your skin will naturally rub off on things you touch, but the Droid screen wipes clean very easily. All you have to remember is to turn off the display or lock the screen for a moment before you do, because it IS a touch-screen.
arcxjo 2 years ago
@zakattakk1 i say get a shield for your screen like invisishield or w/e or screenguard, i hardly ever see my fingerprints, it doesnt get scratched at all and u can even get the privacy screens so noone can look at what your doing from beside you, or well its hard to, and i got an otterbox case, its like a rubber case with a plastic peice that is really durable and nice, ppl up at verizon even advertise it by putting it on then throwing the phone across the room
Kiobao 1 year ago
@zakattakk1 I'll simply say, ignore everything you've heard negative about the Droid & BUY IT. Its great, I've had many of the smartphones on the market, including iPhone, & none of them compare to this. I've had it three weeks & its not failed me once. The app he talks about is Advanced Task Killer, its free. It really does increase your battery life drastically. If you have any questions about this phone (if you havent already bought it) ask me.

If open apps dont have any active tasks (such as facebook etc) it will NOT drain any battery. Closing open apps will only slow down your phone. Google it.

I wonder how is the battery life in general?
J90lude 2 years ago
I have been using a task killer or task manager since day one of having the phone and I have not had one problem .
andranic 2 years ago
@andranic - I've had my droid for only about a day now and I'm wondering if there's a way to just end the app when you're exiting out of it...I know that if you're in a certain app and you just press the 'home' key it will keep the app running in the background, but if I just keep pushing the 'back' button until I get back to that home screen will it exit and shut down the app? - Does any of what I just asked make sense to you?
tommytmt 2 years ago
just get task killer and it shows you your open apps and then just click on them to end them
harry8856 2 years ago
In advanced task killer, you can black list applications to always close fully when you're done with them
killerdog0790 1 year ago
thanks! so i should just leave it as it is?
CSTUTZ10 2 years ago
Yea dont use any type of Task Killer they all have bugs. They do not work correctly, and it will also make your applications start even slower next time when opening them and will cause the phone to lag and use up battery.
6psycho9 2 years ago
how do you get the application...?
CSTUTZ10 2 years ago
I noticed yesterday even after I charged my phone from when it died to when it was full, left it on over night, 6 hours, and it was almost dead. Got the charge warning.
All I used today was ebuddy, and handcent, its still at about 75%. Didn't know things stayed running, good to know.

some apps need to be running all the time and can not be closed . what apps are having problems with
andranic 2 years ago
im have google talk storage, gmail, alarm clock, messagin(iknoe i use tht one) calendar, voice dialer, and maps. I dnt even use these and they r using lots of memory nd Im new to the phone and battery drains a bit to quickly.
i havent gone on the internet or those apps listed. is there even a way to close an app once u've clicked rather than buyin this app?
itzmando 2 years ago
I think I read on some forums that other people have been having the same issue, like for me the alarm clock always pop back up after I use the atk to close it. I don't believe they have a fix on that but I read that you shouldn't be too worried about memory issues hope this helps =]

do you know if you can have a signature on your text on the Droid???
bwbenefield 2 years ago
Currently, google isn't supporting that feature. I found an app called ChompySMS that allows you to customize your texts. I don't use it often because i wasn't sure it it charges you. Hopefully google decides to add that :P
DrizzleDaFizzle 2 years ago
download handcent sms. it works like a charm... plus the texting looks like the ipone texting which is also cool.

download chomp SMS or other SMS applications

the problem with my droid is it says email is using like 32% of the battery life. even more than the display does.

I bet Android 2.1 or 3 will do this better (mainly get rid of it).
compressormax 2 years ago
You have alot of good points. It took some time getting used to closing the apps. the problem is that everyone expects there to be a close button within the app. I mean yea it makes sense to add it in the app but for some reason the Android os wants you to manually close the apps from a different area. This is something that's going to have to change in order this phone to really be a great os. If your not so Tech savey how are you going to know to go and get this app or anything else to exit

Battery life sucks on the iphone 3g. I have one.
kickinit619 2 years ago
It depends on phone usage. if you use your phone a lot, you will have crappy battery life. But if it just sits in your pocket all day, and you text every now and then, and make a couple calls, of course you'll have good battery life
killerdog0790 1 year ago
this was sooo helpful!!!! when i get my droid sometime this week i am getting that app!!!!
wwerulezzzz 2 years ago
I work for VZW and the best way to kill your apps is advanced task killer, you can get it through the free apps, in one button push you can kill all running apps, I use it about 3 or 4 times a day, I watch alot of videos and text alot and my battery lasts a day and a half. Make sure you kill your apps or your battery will drain, turn your bluetooth and wifi off when you are not using them, that kills the battery too

also, ...from home screen. press menu -settings - applications - manage applications. once there you can see whats running and 'stop' tasks from running as well (without having to use a downloaded task app).

woops.. from home screen it's menu - settings - applications - RUNNING SERVICES

Can this be made launchable as a widget so that you don't have to go through all the menus?

You can put a shortcut to it on the homescreen by hitting menu - add - Shortcuts - settings - Running services
