Solution? Make a national convention putting laws on how many children a single person can have under their name. China has already realized this problem and limited your children. Plus if each family has one child the child will have more attention and in turn becomes a more successful person. I think the reason for overpopulation is an illusion by young adults to fill a gap in their life with more children to feel good about themselves. Why not just have one child, and love that one child.

Well the on the matter of resources running out, the perfect solution for an infinite energy source would be to burn our dead, unfortunetly this is not something people would take to...On the other hand, we could just wait for mother nature to release her next devastaiting natural check like the bubonic plague or a humoungous meteor that only happens by chance to wipe out one complete side of the earth while also bring thousands of resources from space. Well I've never got an abortion before (since I'm male), I still believe it's morally wrong. Sure I don't think there's anything wrong with birth control pills and condoms, but I think fixing a mistake or accident by killing an innocent, developing life is wrong. I know that there will be emotional and financial burden of taking care of an unwanted child, but before you get an abortion, think about who that child could have become, and see how abortion would destroy the possibility of that.

I'd say the most likely scenario will be very similar to what happens in many other populations. Rabbit populations for example have a 7 year cycle. They overpopulate more and more, until they run out of resources, most die of mass starvation, a few survive, and the cycle starts all over again.
@secretstars1 you see, the problem is, Humans can live of of pretty much any kind of resource, so when we run out of resources, almost the entire animal kingdom will run out of resorces, too, which will... suck. I think it's less the issue of contraceptives, but rather the idea that many (5+) children are a status symbol in many countries.
As with everything else in life, a balance needs to be struck, a population of single children will cause the "little emperor syndrome" and a country with 10 children per family will eventually fail to sustain itself.
So I recommend 3 children per family: It covers the 2 parents needed to make children, and 1 additional to compensate for other factors.

Yes. I totally agree with you there. I think that we can't really force people to not have kids, but you can teach them about the detrimental effects of raising too many kids with limited amount of resources and how it effects the population and the earth. hopefully, people will think twice if they care enough about their kids welfare and future generations.

I believe that in a not-so-far future, most people jobs could be replaced by machines who do it better and cost less to mantain. And machines will never go on a strike. Our population could triple and the earth could still handle it. We need to chop down the forests, build cities, and put more resources into farming. Most of the land in the world is not being used. Even if plants stopped producing oxygen, all the oxygen already produced would last us 2 billion years. I do think that we should look into lowering the population for privacy's sake. If this really was a issue, I would start getting on the eugenics train.

I agree that, in context of this world, the idea that people should be fruitful and, therefore, not use birth control, is not entirely logical. However, people of any religious group will argue that while the world may not be well populated, their particular faith may not be as well represented as they would like it to be. Society balances itself. The planet is VERY far from overpopulation. Europe and the USA have negative population growth because it is hard to raise children. The population is rising in the countries that are starting to develop. No body complained when in the 18th and 19th century Europe's population doubled every 30 years. The only difference is that this is happening on a largers scale now. The countries that have great growth have similar conditions to industrual revolution Europe.
The logical 'right' to do would be to place restrictions on reproduction, and evenly distribute resources and restructure society to be more like ant civilisations.
However, human emotion often overrides logic, and we have too much individual intellectual capacity to live as ants do.
So - population suffering will continue until technology advances, and the human race will populate other planets, becoming the 'nasty invading aliens' we write about in stories.

My view is that humanity has always taken a laxed response towards conservation, and the direct opposite to consumption. Yes some are concerned about the population concerns here. But not enough. As global resource availability decreases, the global population of the earth will stabilize and possibly decrease if resources become too limited, as it would with an animal in a food chain. If you believe Thomas Mathus's theory, we will hit a boundary with how many people can live on earth at once. If you believe Simon & Bosrup's theory, once we hit a boundary, we will find a way to overcome it, i.e. GM farming, allowing the population to grow further. We'll see what happens (or our kids will)
the only solution I can see, would to introduce a natural predator that could thin out the human population, thereby reintegrating natural selection, the slow fat and stupid would get eaten, and those that had too many children to protect, or were too stupid to protect them wouldnt keep them.

Lack of resources will lead to starvation, wars, pandemics, religious revivals, zombie apocalypse, etc. At some point the remaining people will rebuild, then the process will probably repeat itself until we speciate into a smarter species or go extinct. Government can't prevent it and the people won't.
I read something about it some time ago and as I remeber the countries which have the most problems are India, Latin America, Africa... In Europe there is not such a big problem with it. For sure its a global issue, but we can only help the people there to be more educated, to show them the possibilities .-)

Well the on the matter of resources running out, the perfect solution for an infinite energy source would be to burn our dead, unfortunetly this is not something people would take to...On the other hand, we could just wait for mother nature to release her next devastaiting natural check like the bubonic plague or a humoungous meteor that only happens by chance to wipe out one complete side of the earth while also bring thousands of resources from space. Well I've never got an abortion before (since I'm male), I still believe it's morally wrong. Sure I don't think there's anything wrong with birth control pills and condoms, but I think fixing a mistake or accident by killing an innocent, developing life is wrong. I know that there will be emotional and financial burden of taking care of an unwanted child, but before you get an abortion, think about who that child could have become, and see how abortion would destroy the possibility of that.

I'd say the most likely scenario will be very similar to what happens in many other populations. Rabbit populations for example have a 7 year cycle. They overpopulate more and more, until they run out of resources, most die of mass starvation, a few survive, and the cycle starts all over again.

Basically, there's no guarantee that the cycle would start again. (well, not for us, anyway. Some bugs, plants, algae and whatever would survive, reproduce, and be the new "bosses" of the earth)

I think it's less the issue of contraceptives, but rather the idea that many (5+) children are a status symbol in many countries.
As with everything else in life, a balance needs to be struck, a population of single children will cause the "little emperor syndrome" and a country with 10 children per family will eventually fail to sustain itself.
So I recommend 3 children per family: It covers the 2 parents needed to make children, and 1 additional to compensate for other factors.

advanced countries (pop) = decreasing
when the developing countries becomes advanced, the pop rate will start to stabilize and eventually decrease over time. they become busy people like in any advanced countries are.
advanced countries today actually experienced increased pop growth, such as in the industrial era. it's a cycle.
we shouldn't be afraid of population because it's a resource of a developing country. ^_^ it will decline over time.

I believe that in a not-so-far future, most people jobs could be replaced by machines who do it better and cost less to mantain. And machines will never go on a strike. Our population could triple and the earth could still handle it. We need to chop down the forests, build cities, and put more resources into farming. Most of the land in the world is not being used. Even if plants stopped producing oxygen, all the oxygen already produced would last us 2 billion years. I do think that we should look into lowering the population for privacy's sake. If this really was a issue, I would start getting on the eugenics train.

I agree that, in context of this world, the idea that people should be fruitful and, therefore, not use birth control, is not entirely logical. However, people of any religious group will argue that while the world may not be well populated, their particular faith may not be as well represented as they would like it to be. However, human emotion often overrides logic, and we have too much individual intellectual capacity to live as ants do.

As global resource availability decreases, the global population of the earth will stabilize and possibly decrease if resources become too limited, as it would with an animal in a food chain. If you believe Thomas Mathus's theory, we will hit a boundary with how many people can live on earth at once. If you believe Simon & Bosrup's theory, once we hit a boundary, we will find a way to overcome it, i.e. GM farming, allowing the population to grow further. We'll see what happens (or our kids will)

I read something about it some time ago and as I remeber the countries which have the most problems are India, Latin America, Africa... In Europe there is not such a big problem with it. For sure its a global issue, but we can only help the people there to be more educated, to show them the possibilities .-)

Do not under estimate nature... I 'like' to think the world has a reset button: Ice age / climate change. Mega Eruption / Super vulcano (below yellow stone). Tsunami and hurricane's or even a Meteor strike.
On the other side don't underestimate the stupidity off human mankind allot have proven to be stupid enough to kill among each other, insert random "Holocaust"
Then again technology could give a solution to the problem easily. insert 'random' sify scene. Time /Space Stations.

I'm not sure it's right... In my history class we've see that most civilisations end up stagnating. In Europe for exemple a couple make 2 children or less, So there's an equilibrium. In India or China it's not the case but they'll end up like us. There will come a time in which we'll stagnate, or something
