I too try to condition to the cold Kamo. After working outside for 10 years and enjoying the outdoors on my days off I learned not to put on my heavy coat unless necessary and otherwise wearing as little as I can tolerate, that way on the blistering days when I put on the big coat I'm nice and toasty while everyone else is complaining :D
@1AbominAble1 Good advise, that's actually a very practical way to condition the body to seasonal change. We've lost the ability to do it as well as animals do but, not long ago, man did not need as much as we now seem to need. We've been conditioned for comfort ( which I like to enjoy too ) and sometimes think that a little suffering will kill us. This is where conditioning the mind as well as the body comes into play. Thanks for the input, good stuff.
@bscalzo130 I like to condition my body to the cold in order to build some tolerance just in case of an incident that requires dealing with the cold untill I can get out of a situation.
I use one additional step. I use Saddle Soap before using the other treatments. It really helps to clean the pores of the leather, and adds conditioners to help keep it soft.
Works great! Also gets in better if the boots are warm. I like to warm my boots on the oven door with the oven open set on warm. I also set them in the sun for a few hrs if its warm out. Great Job! Got to take care of your feet!
Great vids GK, I just did my boots a couple of weeks ago, as we've been getting hit hard here in the Northeast. 50 plus inches of snow in Boston so far and more on the way. I just saddle soap as my first go round to get the city and work crud off and after drying go with round two using the Mink oil. Cant beat it. Trying something new for layering, knee high nylon dress sock, with a fleece sock over it as the 2nd layer. Warm AND comfortable.
i thought i was the only person left on the planet that used mink oil anymore!!!!!

Wow I got cold with you walking barefoot in the snow, and no jacket! I too stand by mink oil, worth the time to apply.

good stuff, although I prefer using my bare hands, the warmth from my body heat seems to melt the wax into the leather better.
