It really is much safer now. Back then, you didn't have much in the way of barriers....you had lots of trees, bushes, telephone poles, and the like. Imagine going down Mulsanne Straight and wondering...."What tree do I hit if I have a tire blow out?"

Current LeMans is nice but not like this.

The Matra driven by Servoz-gavin and Pescarolo could have finished 2nd..they drove without wiper system all night...this was real sport !
