Do you believe lesbian sisters should have right to marry? If it is truly about LOVE (I don't think it is), then nobody should be opposed to two brothers from marrying eachother or even a brother marrying his sister if they prove they are incabable of having kids. If they reproduced, they would produce kids with a high percentage chance of birth defects which is why it is against the law. UMMMM, wonder why nature did it that way?  Amazing how there is purpose to some things GOD did.

I believe that gay people should have the right to get married. If marriage was about reproduction first, then thats no better than living like animals. Marriage is about LOVE first. If marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman then a "homosexual marriage" is likely unreasonable. If marriage is defined as "a union between two people", as some claim it should be, then I think that definition needs to be buffeted. I would say the burden of proof lies with those that are going against the grain not the other way around. So [toward the original poster] why should gay individuals be allowed to marry?

I do see it as a union between two people. The legal/government entities in society see it as nothing more than a contractual arrangement. And since our government determines what is and isn't legal, or constitutional, then there is no difference between a man and a woman or a man and a man. And since there is no difference, then there can be no discrimination between the two.

I can see your point. The government could define "marriage" but marriage was an institution which existed before our government, and for many it holds rich and purposeful meanings. Is it the governments job in this case, to redefine or find the definition of marriage? Would redefining go against what marriage is? I am not against "civil unions". I'd change the name. It's a bit drab. But I do consider marriage special. Of course, that is the debate. We'll have to see what happens.

I think we are dealing with two fundamental principles. First, are homosexual people born gay? This is actually a question of Nurture vs. Nature and which part effects someone's "sexual orientation". If it is nature then does that mean the country should embrace it? If you can't help it does that make it right? If it is nurture, then homosexual people do not necessarily deserve the same rights as, let's say, black people. The other question is "what is marriage?" [cont]

I don't know anyone who has chosen to be gay. But even so, why should someone who chooses a way of life be discriminated against, especially if it doesn't hurt those around him/her. We see it all the time in religious privilege. People are able to make absurd claims, perform crazy ceremonies, and expect government privilege all in the name of a religion that few may believe in. And religion certainly isn't in a person's DNA.

I think the issue of nature vs nurture is very important. I think you can look at evidences from birth order and common life situations which lead to higher numbers of homosexuality and conclude that homosexuality is likely nurture. At least such things present an argument. Though, it may not be choice. Nurture =/= choice. I agree that no one should be discriminated against or for. Things such as what you mentioned need tight reins.

I'm Mexican, and bisexual. I support gays and lesbians living together in a household as a couple and having civil rights. However I consider unapropriate to call that union a marriage. At least here, the word comes from Latin with the prefix for mother, and in these cases there's no biological mother. So I say that they live together and be protected by law but not called marriage.

One thing's for sure, it will cause a great spiritual warfare in our country if Romney is elected. The God of the Bible is very far from the Mormon god. Latter Day Saints use the name of Jesus Christ... but their beliefs are VERY far from Huckabee's Baptist (Christian) beliefs.
