  • Somehow, Eric Clapton reminds me of Hugh Laurie in this video...

  • and strats arn't faggoty... they tend to have thinner tones at times because of the single coils, but that can be bypassed by technique and proper amplification (i think we can all agree Hendrix got some REALLY fat tones out of his strat?) but i think ultimately the sound of Strat VS Gibson are just different ones that each have and can wonderfully satisfy different purposes. That being said, Cream deserved a Les Paul here.

  • idk guys, Clapton (too me obviously) really just doesn't sound up to snuff in this performance... and im like the biggest Clapton fan i know of (check my channel if youd like to check lol). If im not mistaken, he was really on fire around this point in his career too, which makes this lousy performance even weirder... shit, maybe Jack and Ginger made him nervous! haha

  • It's too bad that because of the feeling that the 1968 studio cover didnt do the composer justice they played it closer to the original. It was their cover that got a lot of guys turned on to Cream for the first time!!!

  • Greatest 3 piece band of all time.

  • Vulgar language isn't a sign of low IQ. A sign of weak will maybe, but I know some geniuses who swear like sailors.

  • i prefer the telecaster or my old danelctro to a strat

  • @blueswomanvera....NOONE is even CLOSE to EC......at any stage of his career.

  • YOU ALL ARE FAGGOTS!!! WHAT DO YOU KNOW...

  • YOU ALL ARE FAGGOTS!!! WHAT DO YOU KNOW...

  • Cream was a great band, Eric and the boys, but the "RRHOF" ain't worth SHIT until they induct ALBERT KING. Until they do -fuck 'em. They do not acknowledge him in anyway whatsoever.

  • They did this song no justice. Fucked Albert's song up like this. Eric sound's good on guitar. The singer need to give it up.

  • @revnasteewaters57 Urm, if you had some decent respect for music you would appreciate that this is an AMAZING cover of Albert's song. Yes Eric Clapton is amazing, but Jack is also an immensely talented singer. Pouring your heart out into a song takes effort. Vulgar language doesn't solve anything, it's a sign of a low IQ and lack of intelligence, so think before you Troll next time please.

No point commenting on the fact that I'm a kid, I know that. But I have more respect for music than you.

  • @SquiffyTrout Well put kid!!

  • Thank you for sharing this video, nice to see these three called Cream, they were The Cream of it's time

  • The Strat sounds so good by using the neck pickup which gives it a great full tone

  • we need joe t the " englishbluesman " from you tube to play with jack bruce.

he is the clostest thing to clapton in his early days-1965-66-67-78-69-

    check out englishbluesman----you tube,

    you will agree.

  • amazing! cream represent the best of blues/blues-rock in my opinion.

  • fretless bassmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • P.S. Everyone's Entitled To My Opinion........

  • With All Due Respect Albert King Owns This Song..He Just Inhabits It In A Way No One Else Can......Come & Get Me You Tubers!!

  • these guys used to be so good! and they influenced about everybody that ever mattered in rock and hard rock, hendrix among them. too bad clapton lost interest in the group so quick... and I'm surprised at how well the strat sounds after all these years listening to the song performed with an SG!

  • Man, Jack's bass playing is sick. Always loved this group, love it when they get together.

  • When Clapton plays with these guys he sounds much better than on his own. They really light a fire under him. Duane Allman did the same thing for him. Jack Bruce sounds brilliant in every situation. Trower and Bruce is a copacetic paring.

  • fuck yeah!

  • the problem with his start is cus it's noiseless it doesn't have any balls, single coils are supposed to be high powered and scream. anyhow his playing is still great and thats all that really matters

  • For three Dudes, they really cranked out the sound.

    Awesome, awesome sound.

  • its kinda funny how everyone's equipment over the years has upgraded over the years, with the exception of clapton. jack bruce goes from a gibson eb-0 to a sick warwick or whatever, gingers drumset has like 16,000 cymbals, but clapton went from an es-335/sg/les paul to a worn out noiseless pup treble boost strat which requires a battery to function?! its like going from a marshall stack to a vox 1x12

  • @christophereu personally i'd take a strat over anything gibson has to offer any day. just my personal preference. news flash, not everyone likes the same things you do.

  • @christophereu I'll take the Vox over Marshall any day. You cant milk those bluesy tones out of high gain EL34's.

  • @christophereu Dude!!! Vox amps sound better than Marshall in every single respect. The ONLY thing Marshalls ever did better than Vox is volume

  • @garrrrrryyy yeah you do

  • @garrrrrryyy you know tastes are different but this guy sings in the rock and roll hall of fame and you sing on the toilet

    what does that tell you

  • @0Flym0 yes i think do believe your are right; he does sing much better than i do'' then again i sing like shit;

  • I like this track, its in a similar Style to Mark Knopfler's "I think I love you too much", and of course Eric played on the Knebworth performance of that song.

  • Bruce's voice sounds just about as good as it did 40 years ago.

  • Comment removed

  • ignore me. Please :p

  • @Muzikman127

Ignore you????? I don't even know what the hell you're talking about.

  • that's why I wanted you to ignore me lol. I was talking bullshit sorry...

  • does anyone know who covered this first..... cream or jimi??

  • Cream, I think. Theirs was recorded in late 1967 or 1968 and was released on Wheels of Fire.

  • wasn't it cream jimi come out about 69 or 70 if memory serves me right but aye that isnt what it was 20 yrs ago lol :) ^5

  • Albert King did the first cover, it wasn't written by Albert king.

  • Yes -Albert King didn't write it but his was the first recorded version - so it is the original version not a cover.

  • you are wrong, the song is from albert king, he didn't write it but the song is his.a lot of artist have songs that wasn't write by them.

so there is no way to say that albert king did the first cover

    excuse my english please

  • Maybe i'll be attacked because of this, but i think this 3 men are pure ROCK!!

Just think they were the first supergroup, an their talent is more than contrsted with the pass of the years.

  • Boy I am sure glad there are some great legendary musicians here who can leave comments on the truly GREAT and LEGENDARY MUSICIANS!!! Your thoughtful insight into their skills is helpful to those of us not bright enough to understand the music...HE SAYS WITH TONGUE FIRMLY PLANTED IN CHEEK! Their combined body of work speaks to their musicianship. Your combined body of comments speaks to your raging jealousy of their talent! Get lives and then get the wax cleaned from your ears.

  • Looks like they're all having fun on this one.

  • humbuckers !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No humbuckers unfortunately!

  • the vocals are just terrible..campy, weird tremolo, semi operatic..they really stand out against the great feeling and tone of the guitar..

  • Using vibrato isn't being 'semi-operatic' you monumental dumbshit.

  • @theredkatana hey why don.t you go play

    with your little dick''' idiot

  • Completely agree with Antiks72. Since EC went to the Strat his playing lacks balls. Crossroads at the Filmore was not played on that pussy geetar.

  • Albert Kings version is the best anyways, no white boy can sing it like he did

  • Forgotten? Hahahaha! Bruce, Baker and Clapton were the best power trio ever and the only thing that is going to be forgotten is your comment.

  • Eric should have given up that faggoty strat and gone back to the thicker GIbson sound. Humbuckers for the win. Eric's sound during cream was so much better.

  • Faggoty strat? I was gonna let it go as a dumb teenage comment but then I saw you were 37. Check out Jimi Hendrix' "Machine Gun" and listen to how faggoty it sounds or Ritchie Blackmore or Stevie Ray. Here's a news flash: It's not the guitar, you're just listening through faggoty ears.

  • good, go listen to it and stop commenting about things you don't understand

  • @gbc77000 Lmao. I'm a huge Les Paul fan (and I'm lucky to have one), but there is nothing faggoty about the strat. He must be playing on some shitty walmart starcaster or something... lol... faggoty ears.

  • @gbc77000 Rightly said brother, you gotta make a strat play, thats why its the guitar all bluesmen use. Also, check out Walter Trout & Danny Bryant for how good a strat can sound.

  • @gbc77000 agreed. any one who calls a strat faggotty should be forbidden to listen to rock music. Clapp's tone is awesome here!

  • @gbc77000 Right on man, people are always hating on strats because these guys(the ones listed) made it the guitar to play. And I had to add Robin Trower to that list as well as David Gilmour, Yngwie Malmsteen and of course, the always original Buddy Guy. I remember being about 12 yrs old at guitar center and some jerk off leaned over and said, you would be 10 times better if you didnt play a Fender... I'll never forget that, some people have a mysterious grudge against these things.

  • @gbc77000 LOL..I'm a big strat fan myself. ( got three of them ).. Nothin wrong with them at all.. I just wish that Clapton would have used a Gibson for some of the cream songs.. It is part of what made the signature sound of that band. ( at least he brought out the Soldano amp for this gig.).

  • @gbc77000 If you are a talented person you can make almost -any- guitar sing. You are completely right gbc.

  • @gbc77000 That guy is stupid anyway. But still when I listen to cream I kinda want some hamburker in it you know...

  • sounded like jack stayed on the root too long at the end....eric gave all the signs with the turnaround but bruce just ignored em and used the 5th for his vocal instead...thus shortening the solo.

  • What do you mean? The head nod was the signal that he was finished and to go to the turnaround which ends the tune. Couldn't be more clear.

  • Just a few of the reasons they broke up.

  • Good ole Cream. Ginger is looking good for 104. Ho looks like Albert Steptoe!!!

  • Robert Cray does a great version of this as well.

  • Like Clapton both J Backer & J Bruce r damn good with their instrument.

    awesome.

  • very true, but Eric sounds way better on vocals. still over all a very cool version.

  • Love this bassline

  • MAN! i can hear this solo over and over and over!

  • Cream Rock!

  • The new Obama theme song!

  • Clapton is like drinks, too old too good

  • Eric's had some great stuff all through the years, but his best playing was with Cream and Blind Faith. I like the bluesy-strat sound of his later years, but the Gibson through a high-gain amp was where he really shined. Don't get me wrong, he can still sing and play the hell out of the guitar, but the late 60's was his best era. It was just a great period in rock and roll.

  • i like his bluesbreaker period with mayall!!

  • holy shat man the power of cream!!!!!!!!

  • gosh clapton is without out a doubt my all time 2nd favorite guitarist second only to hendrix. when hendrix broke into the london musical scene he squashed clapton but eric for sur got a beter and more developed sound afterwards . i wish he would have had this more evovled sound back in the day...

  • Does anyone know where I could get the lyrics to this song?

  • Have ya tried any of the TABLATURE sites? The chords aren't always accurate-

but usually the lyrics are pretty OK.

Just do a search for "TABLATURE" sites

or "SONG LYRICS" and something will come up.Good luck!

  • Well, Cream is the first great trio in Rock & Roll. Clapton has been much imitated, but never duplicated, and Ginger Baker is one of the greatest, most musical drummers ever. I wish I could have seen their reunion in London a few years ago. I've heard clips from their concerts then and it was like no time was lost. Clapton's sound was incredible! They should definitely get together and tour America all over, but it'll never happen.

  • eric would not have a chance with out jack and ginger

  • PwnCakes1337.....???????????????????????

  • i think Clapton could have sung this better then Jack

  • Bull shit.

  • Someone knows what kind of overdrive did Clapton use in this song?

The tune is so bright! Very cool

  • I'm sure he gets the overdrive from the Soldano SLO100 he is playin, those things are amazing!

  • in my opinion, clapton will always be a reference for generations of future guitarists. what i´m missing is his voice. cuz he sings way better than that.

  • Bull shit.

  • wow what a fucking bitching solo...omg...soooo good

  • I respect everyone's personal opinion about Clapton's choice of instrument....but personally, I will ALWAYS prefer his Gibson tone :)

  • Why do you guys always say Clapton only played well with Cream.

    This is Bullshit.

From 2001 till today Clapton is on his best ever.

This vid is not a good choice to judge about his Playing.

You guys think he should play a Gibson with Distortion on full.

Of course it would sound much fatter then, but this is not Eric Clapton.

He needs his strat beeing bitchy, you know.

A Gibson on full distortion would be a harmless child to play with.

Clapton don't need it, cause he's not a poser.

  • True, he was shit in his early years compared to latter days.

  • Comment removed

  • Clapton played well with many other groups besides Cream, but I think he played his best blues with them. The guitar solo in white room is still one of my all-time favorites.

  • Haha, you guys always talk about Clapton`s Guitarsound, but you don't know anything about it.

Clapton loves the strat because no other one is more dynamic. At this time he played lace sensors and soldano amps.

Today he plays vintage noiseless pickups and a Fender 57 Twin.

    It's a whole different thing.

  • grats to albert king for making this awesome song, and thanks to hendrix and cream for covering this.!

    5 stars for sure

  • weak. why is it so quiet?! i wanna hear then screamin the blues! ginger's not riding his bell, which makes the song.

STILL, a very good performance. cream is effin great

  • Anybody played the new Blackie copy?

  • Yeah i have one.

  • Baker and Clapton said this was a shit performance, along with the others on this first reunion. Apparently the rehearsal before the show was far better.

  • Jack Bruce doesn't seem his usual self here. He looks a little heavier too, as compared to the early years and their later Royal Albert Hall performance...where they kicked ass!

  • god jul

  • god jul

  • mmm

    thank heaven for that bass

  • In memory of Albert N. King!

Original song writer, performer. You did more than thought possible. ~ RIP ~

  • Written by Booker T. Jones and William Bell

  • this was the best of the 3 songs at this event me thinks

  • and you were born, literally, yesterday.

  • Damn that's some hot blues. Clapton at his best.

  • One thing for sure, he has an unmistakable sound all his own. I would be able to recognize his playing on any song. Rip it up.

  • Graet blues song, great performers. They just get better with age.

  • Your Children may not share a view of condemnation on these performers, you Fathers' generation certainly DOESN'T.....

  • awesome bass playing and great bass :o

  • jack is touring with the hippie fest in 2008

  • IM DOIN THAT!!!!! WOOO!!

  • wow new favourite song right here!

amazing! where have cream been all my life?

    brilliant

  • Theyve been in the white room

  • or looking for that darn crossroad

  • WOW I love jack bruce's voice

Eric looks fab and so does ginger baker

    rock on dudes!

  • It just doesn't sound the same without Albert's singing........ Is Clapton using a Stratocaster?

  • Yup, he hasn't used a Les Paul or SG in quite some time (not even with Cream reunions).

I like his Strat sound better though. I've always associated it's sound with blues.

  • Yuck, Clapton's guitar sound was much more intense with the Gibsons. His late 80's sound is a snore fest compared to the heyday of Cream.

  • Clapton 80's = Boring? I think that his albums: Behind the Sun, August, Money & Cigarettes, and Journeyman were some of his best stuff.

We're all entitled to an opinion :D

  • I'll tell you what, you take your Journeyman and I'll listen to Fresh Cream. As you said, we're all entitled to our opinion.

  • I know that his Cream sound is great and classic, but you have to believe that he can play what ever he wants at this point. There has to be a reason that he's still playing a Fender...and I don't think it's about money now.

  • Nah, I don't think it is completely about the money. I mean, he definitely loves being relevant in the commericial market and has been fairly pragmatic to keep himself in play within the ever changing pop world. His collaboration with Winwood shows he still is connected to his greatness when he wants to be.

  • asking if clapton uses a stratocaster is like asking if clapton has a hand actually.

  • asking if clapton uses a stratocaster is like asking if clapton has a hand actually.

  • asking if clapton uses a stratocaster is like asking if clapton has a hand actually.

  • asking if clapton uses a stratocaster is like asking if clapton has a hand actually.

  • Shame really, he was much cooler when he played Gibsons.

  • no strat owns this batlle for sure.and suits Eric most.

  • Hey, if you prefer the boring Clapton sound of the 80's to the awesome sound of his Cream and Bluesbreakers days then be my guest.

  • hey chill.LIsten what Clapton has done with his strat from 1996 until today and then we talk.Check stormy monday by Cream at their reunion.or outside woman blues.

  • Ha, don't worry I'm quite "chill" (I don't take the internet that seriously). I like Clapton's playing on the Concert for George and the Cream Reunion). I just think his sound will never be as raw + intense as it was when he was playing in Cream (with Gibsons and Marshall stacks). Regardless, different strokes for different folks I guess.

  • Of course it's a matter of personal choice but he achieved the sound you talk about with the blackie at the derek and the dominoes layla record.Key to the Highway and Have you ever loved a woman for instance.

  • I am not really taking a complete Gibson vs. Fender argument against EC. I do think though his excursion into slow boogie and laid back country eventually resulted in a loss of the old fire he had.

  • I don't like his 80's work either,But that's not cause of the strat.Despite all these he's probably the best guitarist ever.

  • I think when guitarist get to a certain level (Beck, Robertson, BB King) it is just a matter of perspective really. I think EC is a great to be sure but to me it is all art. I like to view them as individual artists making and I enjoy their unique approach to the instrument. The same goes for any instrument. For instance, those who say Buddy Rich is the best drummer may be right on a technical level but to that is just one small way to understand a musician's craft.

  • That's one of the most intelligent things anyone has posted on here, drummer78.

The majority of people don't understand that to an artist music isn't a competition.

  • You mean behind Jimi Hendrix and Peter Green I hope.

  • Sooo cool! Love the royal albert hall version!!!!
