OH my GOD!!! I am going to sell my house, prostitute myself, begging for change for the next 10 years to buy these MUST HAVE gadgets. Anybody with spare changes? I DO NEED these two items otherwise my life would be so miserable without them. PLEASE SEND MONEY!!!!
Normally this type of tech will take 10-20 to be affordable by the general consumer. But with GE making this type of technology available in many forms, I'm assuming it will be attainable in 5-9 yrs
As others have mentioned here, it does seem that this OLED technology may not get off the ground for larger screens in mass production when several years later it's still stupid expensive. $29000......in 2011, what a joke!
Would not suprise me if the materials that are used for making these OLED screens only run at around 1000£.... money greedy little sony wanting to make back their investments in making the technology.
@nukular0 Local dimming LEDs still have blooming though, which can make the display look REALLY uneven. OLED is definitely superior (I have an AMOLED phone and an insanely high contrast laptop with HP Radiance Display).
lol, this is the kind of thing we'll all look back on in around 10 years from now and chuckle. But seriously, I've been waiting for television sized OLED displays for years now. LED LCDs are nothing more then pseudo precursors to OLED display technology. I'm sure Samsung will thrash most other manufacturers though.
@Jinto117 Yeah, maybe in 10 years we'll finally have affordable consumer OLED screens. Widespread economic downturn isn't helping any either. We are already 2 years behind where we should be. Nobody has the cash to spend on consumer electronics anymore. Then you have to consider manufacturers are going to milk current tech for as much as they can get before OLED is out on a large scale.
Oh man these are gonna be sweet, at least when I can afford one... I hope they have the same pixel density of phone OLED screens, I need more resolution!
@smartydix I prefer to hold a more optimistic view... I'm only 21, so I have quite a few years left, and at the rate of technological evolution, it's unlikely, we'll all be dead.
clunky as shit, looks like a tv from the 50s

I don't really see the difference between LED and OLED. Both have no backlight and amazing contrast.
EldMage 1 year ago
@EldMage: There are no "LED Displays" (on the consumer market), just LCDs with LED Backlight. They just have LED Backlight instead of CCFLs ;)
Of course LCDs with "local dimming LED backlight" can reach very high contrasts, but OLED is still superior.
