Richard Dawson seems so much less perverted on Match Game than he does on Family Feud, with all the kissing and everything. A lot more likable in general, actually.
I guessed nudist, baseball diamond and seam because I'm always looking for something that sounds like a punch line. I think that's how the writers set it up. I thought of Frankie Laine first but would have switched to Avalon. Its hard to put one's mind set into what was in people's minds back then. I think the movie Frankie and Johnny played a lot on TV back then and a little closer to the era than either Avalon (60's) or Laine (50's). Thank goodness Frankie Muniz wasn't born yet.
@Gnillob802 That's the point, to find the pun or punch line, but I'm so terrible at this game! I got seam but the rest went right over my head. It's a good point how you have to think of what would have been on their minds back then. For example, I thought of Avalon and Valli, but it's all before my time so I don't know what was relevant at the moment. I haven't the first clue who Frankie Laine was. It's still my fave classic game show, I just prefer the more timeless questions.
The starwheel was off the chain...because people were always picking Richard for the exact match...so it was a good idea of them to create the starwheel.
I always wanted to see that particular week in '78 with Richard Dawson's breaking point. Actually, I think he still showed good manners despite his intent to quit. But the wheel was good for the contestents and maybe good for the show. Richard was fantastic head-to-head, but from the producer's standpoint, it was too predictable. It wasn't Richard's show, so I don't see why he cared or got bothered by a decision designed to enhance ratings.
Ah, yes, the star wheel. Great way of giving away more money, but I think they did it just to get rid of Richard Dawson. I can see why he left not too long after the wheel's debut.

wonder how many of these stars are now dead

One really 'cute' part has always been that classic look Betty White always had just after Gene read the question(s).

I'm surprised that Franki Valli wasn't on the list.

Madaline was an idiot to be honest... But the matchers were amazing, especially dawson.
WhiteTiger225 2 years ago
Why did Richard Dawson do his lips like that all the time. lol
calibeach1 2 years ago
Because by this time, Dawson was being a total prick and was only there to honor his contract.

Richard desperately wanted out, but Goodson/Todman wouldn't let him. As revenge, he acted totally disinterested during the show.

The star wheel is stupid, it took Richard out of the game.
Doza130 2 years ago
That's because every contestant thought he was the smart one so they'd always pick him.
wasjohnny 2 years ago
that was the point. none of the other stars got picked because the contestants constantly picked Richard. I'm glad they brought on the wheel.
bdavis4life 2 years ago
Ever notice that it was sooooo easy to get a double on that wheel in this episode.

Later on, they made the star line smaller so it wouldn't happen as often.
TheJman2600 2 years ago
right and I loved it when they did that cuz it made more sense and got more excitement from the crowd and the viewers at home.

I noticed on the "sinamese twins" one, that circle lady couldn't win; there were 2 seperate answers, 3 answered each.

The contestant was playing for a prize amount of $2500. By today's standards, that is nothing.

After Richard Dawson left the show the only celebrities that kept the show funny was Brett,Charles, and Betty.
But sometimes Bob Barker, and a few others.
But really Richard Dawson was the Best!!!

Charles and Brett were my favorites anyhow.

Richard was going to leave anyways, he wanted out as soon as family feud started.

1976 actually.

you are more right than me... the show didn't start until 1976, but he was actually signed to do it in 1975.. a technicality.
