Before you can get this lick down properly your left hand has to be very very comfortable playing ghost notes, its what i believe makes or breaks this lick, if your left hand is not up to speed it doesn't bind the lick together properly, practicing this brings your left hand on leaps and bounds and really improves your playing right across the board. Thanks very much for sharing this Max i have learnt so much from you in the last 2 years, my playing has improved so much thank you :)
i love you lol i have subscribed, i really needed something new to me to jump into to improve my drumming. You have a lot of insight into these styles and you have an excellent way of breaking them down. thank you
Wow, dude, that is really awesome. I love it. When I eventually pick up another drumset, I am going to use that groove. I am going to learn to SLAY beats with that. THANKS man! I AM subbing to you now!
I think you should take up the Harmonica. I was in the garage looking for an old funnel, so i wouldn't spill any oil/gas mixture that I was draining out of some lawn equipment, and I found a dusty ol' one in the bottom drawer of a rusty old filing cabinet that must've been in their for several decades. It has some funky crust-cakes and greasy film on it, but over-all, i'm feelin' it's right for you.
Nicely played man. The other drummer's right about leaning into the drums off balance will cause neck and shoulder problems.A physio described it as 'imagine holding a bowling ball off-centre with an elastic suspender stopping it from falling' .That's the relationship between head and neck that does the damage to the neck and shoulder muscles.Check Alexander Technique online for more info.
Your teaching technique is so complete. I can tell that you have what every teacher needs and that is, PATIENCE. Again, something so simple yet how wonderfully effective. Thanks!
good playing but i want to give a tip from drummer to another.. dont bend your back forward like that ..over a long period this will cause serious issues on your health and we both know you dont want that to happen :D
@TheSlevaslava (im not a pro but) he uses the headphones to hear the click, the click we hear he probably put it on with the computer after recording it
Very kind of you to teach this for free! I've been wanting to play this lick for eons but never could figure out how. My the power of the universe be with you always!!
I watched your video on how to practice with limited time, and it really inspired me, fortunately, i work at a job where i sit down all day, and i worked on this groove lick tonight with my hands and feet, and even worked it up in tempo, and tried it out, and wow, thanks a lot man, your are my number one inspiration
Ive always played that pattern and never knew it was Gadd, but I started the pattern first bass drum, then hi hat, then snare and then hi hat. twice on hats not snare.
I use imovie . It's software that comes with mac . I record my drums with mics into protools which is a recording software. Then I record the video and voice with my vid cam. I use imovie to mix the 2 as I need them. Max
You're amazing man, I've been playing for several years now and I can't get my double strokes to be that fast...
You think it's a problem with my grip? I don't practice my rudiments really at all, should I try to go to those? Just the way you hit the snare and the high-hat two times in a row so fast and so clean, I can't do that...
forget about the fill, your regular grove and improv is siiick
