  • can any one let me know the names of the musicians

  • good stuff... but there is more to this song....

  • his tabla player is clear genoius...rocks

  • I have enjoyed Jagit and Ghulam voice over the years. We must appreciate the fact that both Hindi and Urdu has their Orign if I have my history correctly in the Sanskrit Language. I appreciate Jagit contribution to devotional music and and devotional causes which is more important use of music by anyone standards. I believe that Ghulam is a great ghazal singer in his own right and it might not be necessary to compare, since Ghulam has entertain others in his native tongue with the scope JAMAAT

  • I love the Singh's older ghazals, I am what you would say of the classical generation, whether Trindad or straight form the East. You've got to like Sushanta Sinha,he could be the the new Ghazal/Kirtana Prince on the horizon, trained by the Master himself, Anup J.

  • wow how kindly he is explaining the urdu words so to enjoy it in full. really its so nice in live.

  • Thank you for posting this...

  • You are most welcome David :)

  • a lovely singe n table master .........

    i really enjoyed this vedio.....

    wah wah!!!!!

  • Salute to his TABLA Player..Genuis

  • wonderfull, i like all ghazals of him.

  • I cannot get any better than this...absolute genius.

  • JS is hands down the greatest artist on the subcontinent maybe the greatest singer india has produced. His tabla player is also world class. No one else even comes close. Haters, please move to the "back of the bus"

  • As far as I know yeh concert Mumbai mein hua tha!!

Thanks you all guys for valuable comments :)

  • yeh concert kahan hua tha?

  • enjoy gazzals kahan ki faltu baaton main uljhe ho dosto

  • dont argue, they both are great singers, we pay tribute to both of them,,,,,,,,,,,they doing great work.,.....we can ignore either of them

  • i totally disagree that there is only one way to sing ghazals..JS has expanded the horizon of ghazal and made it more accomodating and popular...and never compare JS and GA...both are connoiseurs of the art..

  • Jagjit Sahab let's meet somewhere hahahahah i want to be your student.... LOVE THIS SONG THOUGH, it is only music capable to break boundries. wahhhhhh

  • I am too a big fan of Gulam Ali, But every singer has different callibre, so comparision is futile. We must everyones work and art. Is not it?

  • what a melody i am just amazed

  • Let me tell you, 'everything is relative'. Don't say Jagjit Singh is not comparable to Ghulam Ali!

Jagjit Singh gave new breadth to the meaning of "Ghazal".

There are different criteria of judgement in music, vocal capability only doesn't make the difference.

Jagjit Singh has natural golden voice, smoothness in rendition of ghazal, superb organization and harmony of various instruments in his music, that Ghulam Ali can't dream of having in the twilight years of his career.

  • The ghazal style of singing requires a singer who can SPREAD & INCREASE the popularity of this style. Jagjit has done an excellent job of this. If the medium dies then even the BEST ghazal singers cannot save it! So please view the matter in a proper perspective!

  • What the heck are you talking about? Musical genres require a superstar for wider acceptance. Elvis Presley made black music acceptable to mainstream America; Beatles made rock combos acceptable to the world; Sam Cooke widened the appeal of soul music; BeeGees did same for disco music; Michael Jackson made music videos into art; Madonna spread the music videos. Jagjit Singh widened the appeal of ghazals. What is this nonsense about royalty & royal at heart about music listening? Please explain.

  • JS is hands down the best artist to come out of india since Ravi Shankar. He is at the top of is game no matter what genre he attempts. Bhajans, Ghazals, you name it. He brings people in rather than exludes them and if that means he has to break the rules so be it. A true artist knows that the rules are meant to be broken but only by someone that knows them.

  • Grow up.

  • So, if he's not selling Jagjit Singh will start wearing punky clothes and bring strippers in...just like most of the music industry does. What a logic? By this same logic you seem to declare all his fans and admirers including veterans like Pt. Ravi Shankar (who is the strictest disciplinarian in classical music), Lata Mangeshkar (who worked with him for Sajda and invited him to launch her last album Saadgi), Asha Bhosle, Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Ustad Zakir Hussain....

  • Your words say a lot more about you than Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali or me. I think you really need some psychiatric help because these words are deranged. May GOD bless you!!!

Notes: 1. JS has been saying that about Pak singers since 2003. It's a matter of reciprocation. Pak hasn't been as welcoming to Indian singers.

    2. Even Rahman, Gulzar and Sukhwinder Singh admit that the Oscar winning song was nowhere near their own best. So, it was a surprise, nevertheless a good one.

  • Well, going by your disgraceful language i guess that's what happened to the wretched woman who bore a loser like you. Did Ghulam Ali accompany you? I hope not. He, JS and I grew up in the subcontinent and are civilised enough to respect elders (specially parents, even if they are yours). So, please keep your deranged views to yourself and there'll be peace eventually.

  • but man atleast use a proper language -.-

  • i agree wid u

  • ....Ghulam Ali himself and no less than two Prime Ministers of modern India (Former PM Vajpayee and Current PM Manmohan Singh) ignorant and less royal at heart. Jagjit Singh is an institution in himself that exists beyond boundaries or petty ideologies like the one you expressed. All these great names above acknowledge and respect him for the fact that he was able to simplify and bring a complex form of art to the masses because he was and is the master of the complex form to begin with.

  • Well, in that case your meeting with G A only exposed his hypocrisy, because when he's in India, in his interviews he's said these words many times over the years, "Jagjit Singh's contribution to Ghazals is immense". Also, in your own words ("...token of appreciation...") at least he appreciates J S. Finally, with due respect, wherever he sang at 14 and whoever his teachers were, the fact is that I and million others know about ghazals because of Jagjit Singh, not Ghulam Ali. So, live with it.

  • thats just your ammature opinion thats all....the professionalls would disagree....

  • i love dis song of u jagjit ji n many many others u sang..nice urdu shayeri but ur voice made all dose words alive..luv u..jagjit singh..long live..always loved u n ull b in my heart till i die..great singerrrrrrrrr :)

  • yeh sher record mein nahin hai,aap aaye is liye suna raha hoon.......................lolz

  • ill spirited crowd....but Jagjit Singh sahib's magic covers it up...

  • He`s the best!!! The tabla is WOW! lol the song is so meaningful!! love it!!!!!

  • thanks a lot bro...he person on guitar is Arshad Ji...THE Guru of my guru..THey all are the very best....once again thankyou

  • i am native american...but i love all cultures in the world...i don't know what this song really is about but hearing touches my heart cuz it sounds breathtaking-peaceful...its very very nice

  • it's nice to appreciate other things.there are so many nicer things.I shall send you the meaning of this ghazal soon, take care

  • Slips by over the head lo beauty, your mask..

Over there Rises the Sun(here denotes your radiant face),

When you were absorbed in your youth,

    you shied away from me.

On the question of meeting you,

    My (Counter Romeo) Rival is whom I fear ( As I am Insecure. As what was meant by the poet originally);

Often I retaliate him Ahista Ahista (Slowly...Slowly)..

Slips by over the head lo beauty, your mask..Ahista...Ahista..

  • oh, music doesnt have any language, it touches the soul, i myself am an Afghan, but i am sank in the Classical Indian music...........

  • he was the best, he is the best and he will remain the best for ever. love you jagjit ji. iam not indian or pakistani but i am clse to u then evry one.

  • As a tabla player myself, I can say with no reservations Abhinav Upadhyay is the best I've ever seen and heard. Rhythmic complexities, Taal combinations, and variations are truly stunning.

  • I like also his Tabla playing very much!! He is just simply genius :)

  • He's pretty good but nobody beats Ustad Tari khan when it comes to ghazal accompaniment. Abhinav is decent.

  • Tari Kahn is no doubt one of the world's best, but not in the arena of classical Ghazals. This is a subjective item - for balance, make-my-feet-move, dagga-wrenching pure rhythm, Abhinav is my # pick.

  • bahut badiya jnab

  • Hes got the most melodious voice in the subcontinent.

  • I agree with u one 100%.

  • me too :)

  • Hi my freind, its a unique gazal singing. good work. thanx

  • ghazals are arguably the greatest form of romantic expression...personally i cannot think of any genre other that ghazals where

    romance just fills the air...

  • @heymask maybe arabic music, the grand daddy of urdu.

  • music has no boundaries. long live music. down with regional/communal hatreds

  • i really believe if ppl think " music is my religion" it will solve so many problems we r facing today
