  • Great review, thanks

  • I have the older kindle (not touch). I won't update to this one; I like the way my kindle is, I can point to a line to show something to someone, can hold it the way I like touching the screen and not flipping page or going somewhere don't want to go. For a reding device, don't like the touch screen.

  • I also love the book "Freaknomics". Odd that there is not lock feature to allow you to clean the screen.

  • They should implement a "lock" button or function, to enable us to accidentally touch the screen without turning the page.

  • emazon?

  • forgive me for the stupid question... but can the Kindle Touch be readable at night without light?

  • @Ruzz45 no you'll need a light

  • is this better than the kindle fire I'm stuck and don't know which one to get?

  • @SmokeySinatra the Kindle Fire will do much more. If you just want to read, just the Kindle Touch, but if you wanna play games, watch movies, listen to music, have apps, get the fire.

  • it glares as much as a matte screen. people, its not magic, there can't be NO glare.

  • I just got one today!

  • Heres a tip for your review next time: stop moving your hand over the screen when touching the screen. We CANT see what buttons you are pressing.

  • @thelaw986 Fully support! It is so annoying that I couldn't watch more than first 3 minutes.

  • The screen did glare at 1:30 .....not that i wasn't expecting that as Amazon said that the e-ink display is ideal for reading under 'sunlight' ... not UNDER ROOM LIGHTS.....

  • You must have seriously greasy fingers, because I can't see smudges in good light. I use a Tiger Cloth to clean the screen a couple time a week.

  • Can you get apps?

  • @Claude13able no, if you want a kindle with apps have a look at the Amazon Kindle Fire

  • Thank you!

  • i am new to kindle and i have not got it in the mail just yet but im planning on using it for my college books but my question is when i rent the text books on the kindle touch can i print pages off of it for course work or will i not be able to do that?

  • >2012

    >Complaining about screen smudges

    >Not using microfiber cloth

  • "Go ahead and go back..." your idiosynchrasies are mildly annoying.

  • Can you review the keyboard version of kindle

  • I thought that it can't go on the wed with 3g

  • AHHHH. I'VE GOT ONE IN THE MAIL. SO EXCITED. AHHHHHHHHH.

  • Great review! Can you please review the Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch?

  • @8osman8 To see the book covers? That's easy. All you have to do is tap the top of the screen (while in the book) then on the bottom, you'll see three buttons. Choose the one in the middle, that says 'go to' then you'll see a 'cover' option.

  • I got the kindle touch for cristmas. with 3G and a year warrenty

  • is browsing free for those in Canada?

  • how do u change the wallpaper/screen saver i am so ticked off with the adds. grrrrrrr!

  • @ellan3319 You don't. You have the ad supported one. The ads aren't going anywhere.

  • @ellan3319 you can get rid of em, theres some tuts on the internet about that. your other option to get rid of ads is to pay the diference which is $40 to remove them.

  • I got one of these for christmas =)

  • @blacklazor12

    ME TOO!!!!! :D woo!

  • Comment removed

  • @blacklazor12 so did i, i love it!

  • @blacklazor12 ditto. after wanting a kindle for ages and dropping hints like mad for months X3 about damn time~

found an AMAZING torrent of this guy's ENTIRE kindle library. 4665 books. seriously, you name it, he's got it. i'm reading "interview with the vampire" right now :D

kindle's are the absolute best, if anyone is wondering, YES buy one. you won't be sorry

  • hey my name is andy in 2:29!

  • i wish it has a physical page turning buttons like the nook simple touch:(

  • how come when i put my kindle to sleep i get an advert. When he puts his to sleep like in 2:06 he doesnt get an advert? I know it isn't a big deal but it would be nice to know how to disable the ads

  • @MrBlackops1080 You have the special offers kindle, he doesn't. Go search them up on amazon.

  • @Bojl95 so the only way i can get rid of them is if i get another kindle or can i get an upgrade?

  • @MrBlackops1080 google is your friend :)

  • @MrBlackops1080 you can get an upgrade for about $50 more

  • Great. Thinking of buying. Its an e reader not a tablet so its kind of slow. Love books so this is for me.

  • After listening to ur review i ended up getting the regular kindle with the buttons.but i found the locations of page turn buttons uncomfortable.. to top it off for dictionary pull up it was a kludgy solution to scroll to the word Within a day i went and exchanged it for the kindle touch and have no complaints Am still on my first charge after a month and reading 4 books.. and cant say that i see any smudging on the screen as u had complained on ur review

The touch for page turns is unbeatable

  • @Substance901

The kindle touch already has pinch to zoom support on PDF files.

  • Umm, Does Steves Jobs' Bio come with this?

  • WHY WOULD YOU COMPARE AN IPAD SCREEN TO THE KINDLE TOUCH THE IPAD HAS A CAPACITIVE GLASS SCREEN WHICH SENSES THE ELECTRO MAGNETIC FIELD AROUND UR BODY THE KINDLE TOUCH DOES THE SAME BUT WITH INFRA-RED SENSOR INSTEAD HE IPAD OF COURSE IS GOING TO HAVE A BETTER SCREEN BUT WHO GIVES A DAMN APPLE SUCKS ANDROID IS BETTER

  • I tap my screen with my knuckle rather than using my finger tips. That way there is no greasy smudges to worry about.

  • @DeconAtlantic good idea

  • @DeconAtlantic use one of those cloths for cleaning eye glasses find them at walmart. they work great on smart phones also.

  • @DeconAtlantic you, sir, are genius! :D

  • No upgrade for me then. I'll be sticking to my trusty Kindle Keyboard. If Amazon don't get their **** together, Sony's new reader is going to start stealing some sales. I'm already tempted by its superior PDF support (landscape mode, pinch to zoom etc.). Please update your software, Amazon!!!

  • kindle - landscape mode = piece of plastic

  • can u do text to speak on this

  • @ahmed15533 IPad is a LOT bigger than the Kindle. As you can see, Jon can stretch his hand across the Kindle Touch easily whilst the iPad requires 2 hands to hold it in most cases.

  • I prefer the nook color because it has a better timing and it responds fast with touch screen. I also prefer the nook color because it has the app store just like the iphone or ipod(;

  • what is the bigger kindle or ipad?

  • I definitely prefer, the old Kindle keyboard.

  • nice intro dude :P

  • dude if your going to use your right hand then stand on the right hand side. maybe then we can actually see the screen instead of your frickin hairy hand

  • i have an ipad but lately i've gotten really into reading and though for the past year i've read on my ipad (even with an anti glare protector), i've been reading a lot longer and i can feel my eyes straining :/ got myself the regular special offers kindle and it's amazing. great addition to my gadgetry

  • i love the kindles with 3G because its FREE!!!

  • I played on ur minecraft server

  • people STOP comparing the kindle to the ipad! jesus christ fucking people these days calm your buttholes down nobody cares if you think the ipad is better than the kindle. If you don't like the kindle fine fuck off and go to another video, trolls

  • When you buy the Kindle does it come with anything free? Like if you buy it do you get 5 books free or something?

  • feel like go back 10 years if u use this Kindle

  • NOOK Simple Touch is still better, in my opinion, I'd take a look into it before I run out buying the Kindle Touch if I were you.

  • thanks for the review. i prefer the buttons. i'm sticking to my kindle keyboard for a while longer.

  • Ipad should be compared with kindle fire

  • 1. Google resistive screen/capacitive screen and learn the difference

    2. Gain street cred

    3. ?????????

    4. PROFIT

  • look like its got a slow response time

  • ipad = LCD tablet. kindle = E-ink Ereader. Trying to compare the two is like trying to compare board games with books.

    Comprendo?

  • I can't complain about the web browsing, this IS an eBook reader after all.

  • nook simple touch is better.

  • ipad rip off, ipad is better

  • @sammelief1 Ipad's a tablet, this is a book reader...Christ, that's such a bad comparison.

  • @SkISl0pE ipad has apps for reading books!

  • @sammelief1

    not eink

  • Anyone Please Help!!!! i dont know for christmas to get a 3DS or this Kindle. PLease reply anyone!! Remember... im 11

  • @christhezombiekiller your 11... Read a book, Or e-books.

  • @christhezombiekiller i think youd have more fun with a 3ds. and if you want books you can always go to the library and get them there.

  • @lostpiro yeahh i know but i have a ps3 arlready and my mom says i game to much arlready.. she would rather get me the kindle

  • gforguns, thanks :D i think i will get the kindle cause my mom and dad say i game to much... im not a nerd.. i dont have glasses or anything. :)) but thanks very much! :D

  • Kindles are like fake ipads that only let you read books seems to me that is pretty boring

  • this vs the nook simple touch plz.

  • I LOVE touch screens. My mom already preordered this for me for christmas! I'm so excited! Great review Jon!!

  • i preffer the classic kindle. I read a lot on my tablet and wish i had a physical button to turn the pages

  • One of the major annoyances of a touch screen:

If you touch the screen it does stuff. o.o

    Herpy Derp.

  • iPad ftw

  • Apple will always be the best!

  • @IamGretar You MacFagg !

  • I would buy a Kindle Touch which have the page turning buttons.

  • @CoolShadesX Agreed. I can't see why have either one or another. The Kindle Touch could also have buttons. That way, it'd have a lot more flexibility... then i could use a decent keyboard that didn't take half the size of the device, could manage it nicely and also turn the pages in a reliable way. If this model existed, it would be awesome!

  • If kindle touch is somehow inferior to Kindle 4, then between kindle 4 and kindle keyboard which one is better in term of reading for a long period of time.

    Thanks

  • Uh... why do you look so awkward touching the screen? Or do you have to?

  • @slashedsickness its a touchscreen...?

  • @TonyHD71 kindle TOUCH. (yes)

  • @TonyHD71 lol I meant does he have to be awkward...

  • bn simple touch is waaaaay smoother.

  • web browser is pretty impressive lol :P

  • is it just like a kinde 3 with a touch ?

  • (derp) iPad is better, I'm comparing an ebook reader to a tablet (/derp)

  • Did amazon stop selling the kindle dx?

  • @Ushvin18 no

  • When's the Fire review comming?

  • Why is everyone comparing it to the iPad. Seriously. I fucking love the iPad, but its an ebook. Stop.

  • @TheApplefan4life kindle fire is a worthy enemy of Ipad 2 it does fail a bit here and thhere but for the price of 199 $ kidnle fire is good , but you are right comparing an ebook reader to a multimedia TABLET like Ipad is stupid .

  • @TheApplefan4life

    Nice language !!!

  • rally cool when e-ink displays comes in color! =)

  • what a waste of natural resources, just stop it kindle and let people buy a fucking ipad, swear the stupidest thing ever

  • @arnoboy96 There are some pretty massive differences between this and an iPad. E-ink display, long battery life, size,weight,price... When it comes to reading, nothing will be an E-reader.

  • @arnoboy96 :x i love fanboys. specially stupid ones.

  • That looks superrrr shity

  • I think the Nook looks better, I don't like how Amazon forces you into their book ecosystem, I have hundreds of free public domains books in epub.

  • i own a nook simple touch, with the software update that just arrived, nook touch is super fast, and with its physical page turn buttons it beats kindle touch hands down.

  • @whatever3009 That's so true. Nook Touch best e-reader

  • iPad 2 is so much better. this sucks!

  • @Kjoe67 ... This is an e-reader and not a tablet. Go home kid.

  • @Kjoe67 I hope your sarcastic

  • @Kjoe67 lol your funny

  • @Kjoe67 you're a failure.

  • @pinoiscool1 you do know the cheapest iPad 2 is $500 while this is $99

  • I love technobuffaloooooo! :P

  • Can you do a comparison of this and the nook touch?

  • whats up everyone, jon retinger technobuffalo here ... i always crack up when he says that because of his tone.

  • this is a waste of manufacturing. just buy an ipad 2

  • *Fuck

  • Dick that.

  • Not even close.

  • Don't compare to my iPad 2..

  • made in china style but its fromamerica

  • I rather use zoom and read a book on my smartphone

  • what a piece of crap

  • WE NEED COLOR E-INK! MIRASOL. Amazon....color e-ink. pleeeze.

  • 10:00 to skip ads

  • @HamanyABD lol

  • I actually can't decide between original and touch.

It seems a lot faster to get definition, highlight and leave a note on touch, but for me the page turn seem clunky.

And Touch isn't avaible outside US, so its either I buy original, or wait and hope Amazon will soon offer Touch outside US.

    Frustrating. Any suggestion?

  • @atisvitols Unless note-taking is a big thing for you, I would get the cheaper one, ore take a look at the Nook Simple Touch, which has page turn buttons and a touch screen (and no ads for the same price)

  • @matthew21573 Nook looks great but i cant buy the device and books in my country. Amazon at least understands that there is a market outside us.

  • netscape ads are back wtf

  • its ridiculous that you guys are comparing the Kindle to an iPad...they have completely different functions

as for people criticizing the display and thinking its a black and white LCD from a decade ago, understand that this is an eInk display made specifically for ebook readers in order to simulate the reading experience of a real book as closely as possible

I've read using an iPad AND a Kindle and I can tell you from experience that the Kindle is MUCH MUCH MUCH better suited for the job.

  • @MrYousafBajwa Though I agree with your point on the display point, just because you have used them both, doesn't mean you're right and that everyone should listen to you. IN the end of the day, it's all down to opinion.

  • I like the idiots that compare this to the ipad. Effing idiots. This is an ebook reader. But, I guess you don`t know what a book is, even a digital one.

  • Comment removed

  • @niceworkmicrosoft yeah, but if you had ever actually tried to read on the iPad you would know that its hopeless compared to a Kindle

  • @MrYousafBajwa I read on the iPad several hours a day, and I think it's a dream to read on

  • @niceworkmicrosoft Then you obviously never have used a Kindle.

  • @gucio142 Actually I've used two different models of Kindles, two different Nooks and several tablets. Have a nice day.

  • @niceworkmicrosoft Being an iPad and Kindle user I'd say I read magazines on the iPad and books on the Kindle.

  • @AlexGP90 Books are like Latin, many people have seen them, but unfortunately most do not understand them.
